Rumor Has It I Don’t Follow A-Class Morals - Chapter 39
What Aunt Chen had said sounded so urgent that Su Yin didn’t even have time to ask what was going on before she was rushed back into the classroom to grab her things.
After packing up and leaving the training center, Su Yin finally asked, “What happened? What’s wrong with her?”
Aunt Chen had looked so serious and tense earlier that it had really scared Su Yin.
“Mu Yao’s in the hospital. Something happened when she was meeting with a client, and now she’s not in her right mind.” Aunt Chen grabbed Su Yin’s hand as she spoke. “Let’s go to the hospital together. Is it easy to get a cab from here?”
As soon as Su Yin heard that, her heart sank. She didn’t say anything for a long time.
Aunt Chen noticed her silence, turned to glance at her, and saw that Su Yin’s face had gone pale, her eyes full of fear.
“What’s wrong?” Aunt Chen stopped and looked at her with concern. “Don’t worry too much. Mu Yao’s going to be okay.”
Su Yin stayed quiet for a while before finally looking at Aunt Chen and asking, “Mu Yao’s in the hospital and not fully conscious… does that mean she came back?”
Aunt Chen froze in surprise.
Su Yin bit her lip and clutched her bag tightly, her brows furrowed. “If that Mu Yao is really back… what am I supposed to do?”
She had only just started to live a good life. Was it really going to be taken from her again?
There were still so many things she wanted to do. Her mom was finally starting to show signs of waking up. She’d been studying hard for the college entrance exam coming in three months. Her future was just beginning—was it all really about to end?
“Yinyin, don’t think like that.” Aunt Chen reached out and gently touched her cheek. “The call came from the company. They didn’t say anything about her regaining her memory. Don’t be scared. Maybe something else caused her to end up in the hospital—it doesn’t necessarily mean she remembered anything.”
Su Yin lowered her eyes. She knew she might be overthinking it, but she really… didn’t want to go back to how things used to be.
The current Mu Yao was like a ticking time bomb to her. She lived in constant fear that one day, Mu Yao would suddenly smile that terrifying smile and tell her that everything had been an act—that she had just enjoyed watching Su Yin fall helplessly in love with her.
Aunt Chen didn’t know how else to comfort her. All she could do was pat Su Yin’s hand and say, “Try not to think too much. Let’s go to the hospital and see what’s actually going on. Maybe… it’s not as bad as you think.”
Su Yin nodded. Whether that woman had returned or not, she had to go see for herself.
They took a cab to the hospital. After asking around at the front desk, Aunt Chen and Su Yin quickly rushed toward the isolation ward.
The isolation area wasn’t very big. As soon as the elevator doors opened, they saw several people pacing the hallway—mostly employees from Mu Yao’s company. When they saw Su Yin, many of them looked a bit surprised.
An Jingyao, who was hooked up to an IV while sitting in the hallway talking with colleagues, also froze when she saw Su Yin.
So mistresses these days don’t even bother hiding anymore?
Aren’t they afraid the real wife’s going to show up and rip them apart?
An Jingyao looked at Su Yin’s face, then turned to her assistant and said, “I told you to notify President Ming’s family. What kind of call did you make? Why did the mistress show up instead?”
The assistant looked wronged. He quickly explained, “I called the number saved in President Ming’s phone under the contact labeled ‘housekeeper’ and told her to bring the family to the hospital.”
“That’s weird. Why would the housekeeper bring the mistress?” An Jingyao thought about it. “Wait… don’t tell me… the mistress got promoted?”
Within seconds, An Jingyao had constructed a whole melodramatic scenario in her head: the mistress getting promoted, Mu Yao abandoning her long-suffering wife… it made her sigh deeply with imagined drama.
But now wasn’t the time to fantasize about the boss’s personal life. An Jingyao pushed her IV stand toward the elevator and asked the two women, “Are you President Ming’s family?”
Aunt Chen nodded quickly. “I’m Mu Yao’s housekeeper. This is her wife.”
An Jingyao blinked in surprise, thinking she’d misheard. “She’s who?”
“I’m Su Yin, Mu Yao’s partner.” Su Yin was genuinely worried about Mu Yao and looked at An Jingyao as she asked, “How is she doing?”
Her wife?
Partner?
So this was the real deal?!
An Jingyao finally understood she’d misunderstood completely. She quickly said, “President Ming is in the isolation ward. She’s entered her susceptibility period and needs to be quarantined.”
“She was fine earlier. How did her susceptibility period start so suddenly?”
“We met with a client during lunch. The client’s assistant was an Omega who went into heat in a sealed private room. That triggered all the Alphas, and President Ming was affected too.”
Just as she finished explaining, a doctor walked over. An Jingyao quickly stepped forward. “Doctor, how is she?”
“Who here is family?” the doctor asked, looking around.
“I am,” Su Yin said, stepping forward.
The doctor gave her a quick glance. “Alright, come with me. She just woke up.”
Su Yin followed the doctor to a room. He stopped and knocked on the door, then turned to her and said, “You’re an Omega, right? It might not be the best idea for you to see her right now—she’s in her susceptibility period.”
“Why?” Su Yin asked, confused.
The doctor looked at her again. “Her susceptibility hit hard. We need to observe her for three days in quarantine. Even though you’re her Omega, that doesn’t mean you can just take her home.”
Su Yin nodded slowly, still not fully understanding.
A nurse inside the room heard the knock and came to open the door. The moment it opened, Su Yin caught a strong scent of rum lingering on the nurse’s body—it was Mu Yao’s pheromones.
The breeze diluted the scent a little, so all Su Yin felt was a bit flushed. There weren’t any other effects.
“She can’t see you right now. It’s a bit dangerous in there,” the nurse said. “Put on protective gear and you can go in for a bit.”
Su Yin nodded, followed the nurse to put on a heavy protective suit, and went through disinfection before entering the isolation room.
Once inside, she saw Mu Yao lying on the bed, an IV dripping into her arm.
At the sound of someone entering, Mu Yao slowly turned her head.
The nurse was a Beta, so she didn’t need to wear protective gear like Su Yin—just a mask. She looked at Mu Yao and said, “Awake? Look who’s here—it’s your Omega.”
Mu Yao’s cheeks were flushed, her whole body burning up. She didn’t react right away. But when she looked through the face shield and saw Su Yin’s eyes, it finally clicked. “Su Yin?”
“It’s me,” Su Yin said, taking her hand. “I came to see you. How are you feeling?”
Mu Yao sighed. Her whole body ached like it was on fire, and a restless, indescribable desire kept surging through her.
She gently held Su Yin’s hand, gave her a faint smile, and said, “I’m alright. Don’t worry about me.”
Seeing her like this made Su Yin feel guilty.
On the way here, she’d been wondering what she would do if that woman had returned.
But now, seeing Mu Yao lying there in pain and being completely helpless to do anything about it made her eyes sting with the urge to cry.
As Su Yin’s eyes began to well up, Mu Yao said helplessly, “Don’t do that. The doctor said it’s just my susceptibility period. I’ll be fine in a couple days.”
The nurse nearby chimed in, “Yeah, you’re her Omega. You can help her out in the future.”
Mu Yao knew perfectly well how Su Yin could help her, but she still shook her head and said, “She’s still recovering. It’s not good for her to do that.”
“I can do it…” Su Yin said, holding her hand tighter, eyes red. “Maybe I can help you.”
“Don’t be silly.” Mu Yao looked at her. “You’ve just started getting better. What if you overdo it and get sick again? I’ll be fine after a few days. I don’t need you to help me.”
Mu Yao turned to the nurse. “Please take her out. Her body’s still weak—she shouldn’t be in the quarantine zone.”
Su Yin shook her head, trying to refuse, but Mu Yao cut her off.
“Be good,” she said from the hospital bed. “Go.”
In the end, Su Yin was escorted out. After going through decontamination in the buffer room, the nurse helped her take off the protective gear.
“Your Alpha really loves you,” the nurse said gently. “It’s rare to see an Alpha who cares about their partner this much these days.”
Su Yin’s ears instantly turned red. She looked back toward the isolation room and asked, “Is she really going to be okay? She looked like she was in a lot of pain.”
“She’ll be fine,” the nurse assured her. “Alpha susceptibility comes and goes quickly. This one was just unexpected. She’s probably very sensitive to pheromones, which is why it hit her so hard. She’ll be discharged in three days, and there’ll be staff with her the whole time. You don’t need to worry.”
How can I not worry?
Su Yin stared at the heavy isolation door, then turned to the nurse. “Can I stay out here and keep her company?”
“Well…” The nurse thought for a moment. “You can stay nearby, sure. But you won’t be able to go inside.”
“That’s okay,” Su Yin said. “I just want to be close to her.”
“Alright then.” The nurse smiled. “I’ll let my colleagues know to take good care of her for you.”
When Su Yin left the isolation ward, Aunt Chen came up to her. Seeing her flushed face, she asked, “So? How is Mu Yao doing?”
“She’s alright.” Su Yin said, “I want to stay here with her. I won’t be going back tonight.”
“Here?” Aunt Chen was a little surprised. “There’s nothing here—how are you going to stay? Didn’t they say the nurses would take care of her?”
“I just want to be with her,” Su Yin said softly, looking down. “Please let me stay the night.”
Aunt Chen didn’t know what to say. She looked at Su Yin for a long moment, then sighed. “Alright, you can stay. I’ll go home and bring you a blanket and some food. I’ll stay here with you too.”
“No, it’s fine. I’ll be okay by myself. You should get some rest.” Su Yin added, “If you can, bring me the textbooks I’ll need for tomorrow. I want to head straight to class when I wake up.”
Aunt Chen looked at her helplessly, then nodded.
After Aunt Chen left, Su Yin sat on a bench in the hallway, watching the heavy door to the isolation ward open and close. She knew Mu Yao was still inside, suffering, and her heart ached.
She felt guilty. Mu Yao was so good to her now.
Maybe… maybe that woman really isn’t coming back.
