Rumor Has It I Don’t Follow A-Class Morals - Chapter 42
At the training center, Su Yin’s mind was a complete mess. She stared blankly at the textbook in front of her, totally zoning out. The teacher was going on and on at the front, but not a single word was registering.
After class ended, Su Yin hurried to organize her notes, but the blackboard was quickly wiped clean, making it even harder for her to catch up.
Zhou Zhou, as usual, was hugging her pillow, tilting her head as she watched Su Yin frowning and scribbling in her notebook. She yawned and asked, “What’s up with you? Couldn’t keep up with the notes?”
Su Yin glanced at her and gave a distracted “Mm” before continuing to write from memory. If I really can’t figure it out, I’ll just borrow someone else’s notes later.
Zhou Zhou stretched and propped her head on one hand, watching her. Suddenly, she asked, “Something happened today, didn’t it? I woke up a few times during class and saw you spacing out. That’s not like you at all.”
Though she did sleep every day, it wasn’t like she’d snooze all the way until the bell. Sometimes she’d wake up in between, lying on her desk, secretly watching Su Yin study with such focus.
But today, her desk mate seemed… off. She kept zoning out, sure, but more than that—her whole energy felt different.
Something was definitely off…
Curious, Zhou Zhou asked, “Su Yin, are you in love or something?”
Su Yin jumped, eyes going wide as she turned to stare at her. “Don’t talk nonsense! Why would I be in love?”
Zhou Zhou gave her a disbelieving look, narrowing her eyes. “Then why are you always distracted? When you first joined, you were all fired up like you were on a sugar rush. Now class is about to start and you haven’t even taken out your books.”
Only then did Su Yin realize she hadn’t prepared anything for the next lesson. There was no way she’d finish her notes in time either. She sighed and packed up, planning to figure it out at home instead.
The teacher arrived shortly after. Though class hadn’t officially started yet, most students were already in their seats reviewing or previewing material. Only Zhou Zhou and Su Yin were still chatting.
Zhou Zhou had no intention of attending class properly. Seeing how Su Yin seemed interesting today, she poked her under the desk and whispered, “Just tell me—are you in love? When I mentioned it earlier, your ears turned red.”
“I’m really not,” Su Yin replied helplessly. “I just… had something happen yesterday.”
“What kind of thing?”
Su Yin didn’t say. Zhou Zhou glanced at her but didn’t push further. Seeing that class was about to start, she said, “If you’re not gonna talk, I’m going back to sleep. See you at lunch.”
Watching Zhou Zhou hug her pillow and get ready to sleep again, Su Yin couldn’t help asking, “Why do you sleep so much during the day? Don’t you rest at night?”
“Sleeping at night is nighttime sleep. This is daytime sleep,” Zhou Zhou said with her eyes closed, turning toward the wall. “I’m sleeping now. Goodnight.”
At the podium, the teacher was opening the lesson materials and getting ready to start. Su Yin opened her mouth, wanting to talk to Zhou Zhou, but with class starting, she had no choice but to focus and try to follow along.
This class, she managed to space out a little less. It didn’t take long for Su Yin to get back on track and start paying attention again.
Meanwhile, over on Ming Muyao’s side, things weren’t going so smoothly either.
Today, they had a rare early morning meeting. The main agenda was for the senior executives to discuss some company issues and the arrangements for Rui City Group’s inspection. An Jinyao was fully in charge of the planning; Muyao was basically just there to make up the numbers.
Leaning her head on one hand, Muyao kept gazing out the window at the view of the river, completely tuning out the meeting.
She was still thinking about that look Su Yin gave her this morning.
Muyao couldn’t figure it out. Did I say something wrong? Why did she look so upset?
From the moment she arrived in this world, the first person she met was her so-called “wife.” Su Yin had been through so much—her family hit with disaster, her life a total mess. Even if Muyao wasn’t really her lover, she couldn’t just let her keep suffering like that.
Sure, kissing her last night had been out of line—but she had told Su Yin that she’d respect her wishes, hadn’t she?
Unless… Su Yin still hates me?
The more Muyao thought about it, the more it made sense. Even though she’d taken over this body, Su Yin didn’t know that. To her, Muyao was still that same horrible person from before.
Sure, this new “Muyao” didn’t hit or yell at her anymore, but there had to be lingering trauma. That kiss last night must’ve brought back a lot of bad memories.
The more she thought about it, the more certain she felt. Looks like she’d have to apologize again tonight. She couldn’t tell Su Yin the truth, but at the very least, she needed to ease the tension between them.
Just as Muyao came to that conclusion, An Jinyao was wrapping up the meeting.
She glanced over at Muyao, who had clearly been zoning out the whole time, and couldn’t help feeling a little emotional.
In the past, Muyao wouldn’t have just zoned out—she wouldn’t have shown up at all. It was like she’d vanished off the face of the earth. No one could ever find her.
Now, even if she wasn’t focused, at least she came. That was already progress in An Jinyao’s eyes.
That was all she really asked for from Muyao.
“President Ming,” An Jinyao called out politely, “do you have anything you’d like to add?”
Muyao didn’t have anything to add. She glanced around the room and calmly said, “Let’s do it that way.”
“Alright,” An Jinyao said to the group. “Then as discussed, I’ll handle the reception. Everyone else, just focus on organizing the internal data.”
After the others left, she walked over to Muyao, blinking as she asked, “President Ming.”
Muyao looked up at her, confused. “What is it?”
“It’s nothing serious, just a quick question.” An Jinyao chose her words carefully and asked cautiously, “That girl you brought to the company before—is she your wife?”
Muyao thought about it. She’d only ever brought Su Yin to the company, so An Jinyao was probably referring to her.
“Why? Is there a problem?”
“No, I was just curious.”
An Jinyao had assumed Su Yin was some young fling. Now that she thought about it, that had been a pretty narrow-minded assumption. Muyao had been a real playgirl before, sure, but lately, she’d changed a lot.
An Jinyao wasn’t sure what had caused the shift, but at least it was a move in the right direction.
Back then, Muyao would party, sleep around, and never take responsibility for anything. Even with Omegas, she’d just throw some money at them after having her fun and disappear.
Now, seeing her different attitude, An Jinyao gave her a smile and finally got to the main topic.
“President Heng has been staying at the hotel these past few days, still hasn’t started officially evaluating our company,” she said. “She’s been sticking close to her assistant the whole time, barely leaving her side.”
Then, she gave Muyao a puzzled look. “How did you know she cared about that assistant so much? If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would’ve thought their relationship was awful.”
To everyone else, Heng Jingxian and her assistant looked downright hostile—worse than a typical boss and subordinate. From the outside, it just seemed like she was bullying the girl.
At first, An Jinyao had thought the same. She even felt bad for the assistant and offered to have her transfer over.
Later on, it seemed like Heng Jingxian didn’t like her either. An Jinyao had chalked it up to her company’s bad reputation or her own shady background.
But then something changed. Out of nowhere, Heng Jingxian agreed to come for an inspection, saying she’d decide later about investing. An Jinyao was totally baffled.
Now, seeing her hover over her assistant every moment, she couldn’t tell what was going on. Did she care, or didn’t she?
Muyao, of course, knew exactly what was happening. She looked at An Jinyao and smiled. “Ever heard of a ‘wife-chasing crematorium’ arc?”
“…What?”
What did that mean? What did it have to do with Heng Jingxian?
Seeing she didn’t get it, Muyao didn’t bother explaining. She just told her, “You should go check on that little assistant sometime. Trust me—she means more to Heng Jingxian than anything else. Even if she doesn’t realize it now, she’ll remember your kindness later.”
“It’s just a visit anyway. I’ll set it up tomorrow,” An Jinyao said. “As long as she agrees to invest, I’ll do whatever it takes.”
Muyao nodded. “I’m leaving a bit early this afternoon. You don’t have to stay too late either. Once the inspection officially starts, I’ll be with President Heng the whole time.”
After giving a few more instructions, Muyao finally returned to her office.
She spent the rest of the day preparing documents. The company wasn’t in as much trouble as it used to be. The money she clawed back from Su Yin’s dad and the several million An Jinyao had brought in as investment had gone into new advertising and system upgrades. This month’s revenue was several times higher than the last.
It proved one thing: if the money’s in place and the product is decent, people will pay.
Around 3 p.m., Muyao left the office. She went to the supermarket, pushing a shopping cart and loading up on snacks, fruit, and soft pastries.
She’d noticed that Su Yin had a sweet tooth, like a little kid. If she was going to apologize properly, she’d definitely need to bring lots of sweets.
She picked out a few boxes of cookies, then thought It can’t all be sugar, and added some savory soda crackers too.
After calling Aunt Chen, she also bought chicken, duck, fish, and ribs—returning home with bags full of groceries.
As she was leaving the store, Muyao saw a flower shop by the roadside and popped in to buy a potted plant.
When she got home, Aunt Chen hadn’t started dinner yet. Muyao went straight to the kitchen, blocked Aunt Chen from entering, and with a loud click, slid the kitchen door shut behind her. Rolling up her sleeves, she started cooking.
When Su Yin came home, she saw Aunt Chen pacing anxiously at the entrance. The moment she walked in, Aunt Chen rushed over and whispered, “Quick, go talk to Miss Muyao! She’s been in the kitchen since 4 p.m.—but she doesn’t know how to cook! You need to go check on her!”
Su Yin blinked, confused, and after a pause, asked, “She’s… cooking?”
