Rumor Has It I Don’t Follow A-Class Morals - Chapter 52
Su Yin sat at Ming Muyao’s desk, spreading out a math test in front of her, planning to start with the hardest problems.
But after writing just two lines, her eyes began to wander uncontrollably—glancing around the desk, curiously peeking into the drawers, even taking a walk around the office to see what kinds of things Ming Muyao had collected.
She had never really had the chance to come into Ming Muyao’s office before. Back at home, she rarely even entered the study. She usually stayed in her own room or helped Aunt Chen with cooking and picking vegetables—there wasn’t much space for exploration.
Now, standing in front of the office cabinet, Su Yin looked at the trophies and certificates behind the glass door, feeling a strange sense of interest.
After wandering around for a bit, she finally returned to her seat, picked up her pen, and wrote another two lines.
She was a little thirsty.
Su Yin thought for a moment, then put down her pen again and got up, heading toward the break room based on memory.
There weren’t many people working overtime at the office today. A few glanced at her when she walked out but didn’t greet her—just kept their heads down typing away as if they didn’t see her. Su Yin took a roundabout path but still couldn’t figure out which meeting room Ming Muyao was in, so she gave up and went to get herself a drink first.
The break room was empty. Su Yin opened the fridge and took out a bottle of sea salt soda water. As she twisted the cap, she started walking toward the door.
Just as she reached the doorway, a woman wearing a khaki trench coat came walking in. Her long hair flowed behind her, and she walked with an air of confidence. A large pair of sunglasses covered most of her face, but her exposed nose, lips, and chin looked quite delicate.
Su Yin looked at her, feeling puzzled.
Who is she? She doesn’t look like an employee. Could she be some kind of executive?
While Su Yin was still wondering, the woman stopped in front of her. She took off her sunglasses and glanced at the soda water in Su Yin’s hand, then lifted her chin and said, “You work at Ming Muyao’s company, right?”
Hearing that familiar name, Su Yin wasn’t sure whether to respond or not.
But when the woman saw her hesitation, she assumed Su Yin was just a low-level employee and said lazily, “It’s too hot today. Go make me an iced Americano. I want it cold, but without ice.”
Cold but no ice? So… iced, but no ice?
The woman added, “I’ll be sitting on the couch. Bring it out quickly once it’s ready.”
Su Yin looked at her curiously. After thinking for a moment, she didn’t say anything—just nodded and went back into the break room to make the coffee.
Fang Qiongyan watched Su Yin walk off, then fanned herself with her hand and walked over to the nearby couch, crossing her legs in a relaxed pose.
“This damn weather, my makeup’s melting,” she muttered, pulling out a compact mirror from her bag to touch up her face. She had come specifically to see Ming Muyao today. After hearing from the staff that Ming was in a meeting, she didn’t dare to disturb her.
Last time, Fang Qiongyan barged into Ming Muyao’s office and got scolded badly. Add that to the recent incident where she tried to ride the publicity wave, and she’d already taken quite a hit. If she still couldn’t learn her lesson, she might never get to see her again.
After touching up her makeup, Fang Qiongyan let out a long sigh. She finally understood the kind of power capitalists held—because of that trending topic, her family had scolded her like she was a total disgrace.
So here she was, sacrificing one of her rare vacation days to come apologize to Boss Ming in person.
Leaning back on the couch, Fang Qiongyan couldn’t settle her thoughts. Ming Muyao wasn’t exactly easy to deal with, and she wasn’t sure if her apology would even be accepted.
But she’d come all this way. Even if Ming didn’t forgive her, what could she do?
It’s not like she’d hit her, right?
With that thought, Fang Qiongyan relaxed a little, glanced at the time, and guessed that the meeting should be ending soon.
Just then, Su Yin came out of the break room with a cup of coffee and placed it in front of Fang Qiongyan. “There weren’t many ice cubes left in the fridge, so it might not be that cold. You can give it a try.”
Fang Qiongyan glanced at the girl and picked up the coffee. “You look kind of familiar. Are you Ming Muyao’s assistant?”
Su Yin blinked, neither confirming nor denying it.
Fang Qiongyan didn’t press the issue. She took a sip of the coffee, then looked pleasantly surprised. “Did you make this?”
“Yeah,” Su Yin said, confused. “Is something wrong with it?”
“Not at all, it’s really good.” Fang Qiongyan looked at the petite Omega in front of her with growing interest. The girl had fair, soft skin, a round little face, beautiful features, and even in simple clothes, her beauty was hard to miss.
Such a good-looking assistant who also made excellent coffee—if she stayed by Ming Muyao’s side, it was only a matter of time before something happened.
Fang Qiongyan thought to herself, Ming Muyao’s a notorious flirt, always playing around with pretty little Omegas. If this girl stays with her, it’s only going to ruin her. Since she makes such great coffee, maybe I should just poach her to be my assistant. That way, Ming might finally settle down a bit.
Even though they were using each other, Fang Qiongyan still hoped Ming Muyao could clean up her act a little. Otherwise, she’d get dragged into the gossip and end up labeled as some dirty, scandalous celebrity—which would be a nightmare for her career.
Thinking this through, Fang Qiongyan said to Su Yin, “You’re probably not making much working for Ming Muyao, right? Why not come work for me? My family’s business isn’t any smaller than hers, and I pay my assistants more than anyone else in the industry. All you’d have to do is follow me around on set, bring me drinks, hold an umbrella. Isn’t that easier than working here?”
Su Yin listened, unsure how to respond for the moment.
Meanwhile, Ming Muyao and Heng Jingxian had just finished their meeting. They gathered their things and got ready to leave the conference room.
“Wanna go grab a drink or something?” Ming Muyao asked. “Sorry for making you all work overtime today. You guys pick a place for lunch, it’s my treat.”
Heng Jingxian gave her usual indifferent expression and didn’t even look at Ming. “No need for lunch. Let them all head home and rest.”
“Alright, works for me.” Ming Muyao figured it’d save her a meal. But she still needed to talk business with Heng, so she added, “Then why don’t you come sit in my office for a bit? I’ve got something I’d like to discuss.”
Heng Jingxian glanced sideways at her and nodded. Then she turned to Si Chen, who had been following silently behind them the whole time. “You’re done here. Head back to the hotel.”
Si Chen paused for a second, looked at her, then nodded and walked off.
Watching their interaction, Ming Muyao sighed and said, “President Heng, your assistant is pretty diligent and doesn’t seem to make mistakes. Why are you always so cold to her?”
“She’s just an assistant. Am I supposed to pamper her?” Heng replied calmly. “Besides, she hasn’t been feeling well. There’s nothing urgent, so why keep her around?”
“If you’re concerned about her, maybe let her know. Otherwise, she might overthink it.”
“…What she thinks is her business. It has nothing to do with me.”
Heng glanced at Ming, her tone sharp. “If this is all you wanted to talk about, I’ll head out now.”
“No, no, I’ve got serious business to discuss,” Ming said with a chuckle, pulling her along toward her office. “You’ve been evaluating us for a week now. I’ve asked a bunch of times, but you still haven’t given me a straight answer. We just finished the meeting—I don’t like beating around the bush. Just tell me: is this investment going to work out? What are the odds? I need to know where I stand.”
Heng let herself be led along without resistance. “Your company still has a lot of issues, but I do want to make this investment happen. So we both need to put in effort—it can’t all be on me.”
“I get that. Tell me what needs fixing, and I’ll have my team handle it.”
“I’ve already started preparing a document. I’ll give it to you on Monday.”
They chatted as they walked. But as they turned a corner, Ming Muyao suddenly stopped.
Heng looked back at her, noticing Ming frowning as she stared across the hallway. Curious, she followed Ming’s gaze and saw a woman in a khaki trench coat sitting on the couch, with a slim girl standing in front of her.
The woman was holding a cup of coffee. After studying her for a moment, Heng realized—wasn’t that Fang Qiongyan, the one who had just been trending with Ming?
She actually showed up at the office?
Heng glanced at Ming, smirking. “Someone here for you?”
Of course she was.
Ming Muyao’s face darkened as she looked at Fang Qiongyan talking to Su Yin. She couldn’t hear what they were saying from this distance, but she had a gut feeling it wasn’t anything good.
“President Heng, let’s talk later.” She gave Heng a quick nod and marched over.
Su Yin had just been thinking about how to politely decline the offer when she saw Ming Muyao walking toward them with a stormy expression.
“Ming Muyao?” Fang Qiongyan was the first to speak. She stood up quickly and said, “You’re done with your meeting? I was just thinking, if you didn’t come out soon, I’d call you.”
“What are you doing here?” Ming asked.
Fang Qiongyan smiled and brushed her hair back. Her tone turned gentle. “I came to apologize to you.”
Ming glanced at her. “I wasn’t talking to you.”
Fang Qiongyan: “?”
Su Yin suddenly realized—Ming’s earlier question had been directed at her.
“I… I was just thirsty, so I came to grab some water,” Su Yin explained carefully. “Then she said it was too hot and asked for iced coffee, so I made her a cup.”
Ming turned to Fang Qiongyan, her face cold. “You asked her to make it?”
“Yeah.” Fang Qiongyan shrugged. “Your assistant makes a pretty good cup, actually. I was just saying I’d love to have her come work for me. You’re not mad I tried to steal your talent, are you?”
“Steal her from me?” Ming gave a dry laugh, then walked over and took Su Yin’s hand. She turned to Fang Qiongyan and said, “She’s my wife. Think you can poach her?”
Fang Qiongyan froze, staring blankly for a moment before finally reacting.
“Huh?”
