Rumor Has It I Don’t Follow A-Class Morals - Chapter 55
Before heading home, Ming Muyao took Su Yin for a walk around a nearby mall. They had a simple meal, then got ready to head back.
While driving, Ming Muyao received a phone call. She glanced at the screen and saw it was from Fang Qiongyan—the same woman who’d stirred up trouble at the company today. Ming hadn’t even gone after her yet, and now the woman was handing herself over on a silver platter.
But since Su Yin was sitting right beside her, Ming Muyao didn’t answer. She simply declined the call and kept driving.
Su Yin saw it too, though she didn’t know who Fang Qiongyan was. Besides, she never interfered in Ming Muyao’s business. She just looked over briefly, then returned to fiddling with her phone.
While they were out, Ming Muyao had given Su Yin a brand-new phone. But Su Yin wasn’t into gaming or social media—she mostly used it for basic communication and occasionally installed a few learning apps. The rest of the time, it stayed in her bag or pocket, rarely seeing the light of day.
But today, Su Yin had checked her phone several times. While driving, Ming Muyao glanced over and noticed that she seemed to be chatting with someone.
A classmate?
Ming Muyao turned the steering wheel, debating whether or not to ask—but ultimately decided against it.
Lost in thought, they soon arrived at their neighborhood. After parking the car, Ming Muyao unbuckled her seatbelt and said, “We’re here.”
“Mm.” Su Yin put her phone away, grabbed her things, and got out of the car.
Aunt Chen heard the commotion and came out to greet them. Ming Muyao had called earlier in the afternoon to say they wouldn’t be home for dinner, so Aunt Chen had just made a simple meal for herself. Seeing the two return together, she smiled and asked, “What did you two eat tonight?”
“Just some light soup noodles,” Ming Muyao replied. “Su Yin can’t eat anything spicy these days. Make something light again tomorrow.”
“Alright.” Though a bit curious, Aunt Chen didn’t press. Taking Su Yin’s backpack, she asked, “You’re not going out tomorrow, right? Should I bake some mini cakes for you?”
“Yes, please!” Su Yin loved those soft, fragrant sweets. She leaned in beside Aunt Chen and started discussing what flavor they should bake tomorrow.
Seeing them walk off, Ming Muyao pulled out her phone from her pocket and called Fang Qiongyan.
The call connected quickly.
“Ming Zong~” Fang Qiongyan’s tone was cheerful. “You finally called me back! I was starting to worry you’d blocked me because you hate me.”
“Blocking you is only a matter of time,” Ming Muyao replied coldly. “What did you come to me for today? If you can’t give me a straight answer, don’t call me again.”
Fang Qiongyan let out a dry chuckle, then apologized seriously. “I’m really sorry, Ming Zong. I didn’t know that girl was your wife. If I’d known, I’d have made her coffee myself.”
Ming Muyao walked upstairs as Fang Qiongyan kept talking. “About what happened today, I was hoping to find a chance to apologize to your wife too. When are you both free? I have shares in a seven-star hotel. I can book out the rooftop garden, maybe even bring in a band to play some violin. Wouldn’t that be lovely?”
“That’s all you wanted to say?” Ming Muyao’s tone grew impatient. “If it’s just more of this pointless nonsense, I’m hanging up.”
“No, wait!” Fang Qiongyan quickly stopped her. “Ming Zong, I’m not trying to break you two up—I want to join you. Please, just give me a chance!”
Ming Muyao went silent for a few seconds before blurting out, “What?”
After Su Yin and Aunt Chen finished talking about mochi-flavored cakes, Su Yin washed her hands and stepped out of the kitchen.
Not seeing Ming Muyao in the living room, she looked upstairs and noticed the bedroom door was open. She probably went to rest—makes sense, we’ve been out all day.
“It’s getting late, Yinyin. Go wash up and get some sleep,” Aunt Chen said gently. “It’s the weekend tomorrow. You can sleep in.”
“Mm.” Su Yin nodded but kept glancing at the open door, clearly distracted. She tidied up her things and returned to her room.
Her room was separated from Ming Muyao’s by just one wall. She could faintly hear someone talking from the other side—sometimes louder, sometimes softer, but too muffled to make out clearly. Su Yin was curious about who Ming Muyao might be speaking to, but didn’t dare interrupt.
Once bitten, twice shy…
Especially since Ming Muyao used to hit her—every day, for a whole year. Over time, Su Yin had been conditioned not to ask questions or poke her nose into Ming Muyao’s affairs.
Even though things were completely different now, that deep-rooted fear still lingered. It kept Su Yin from being overly curious or bold enough to pry into Ming Muyao’s life.
Still, she couldn’t help but care.
Opening her textbook, Su Yin’s thoughts drifted back to that woman in the khaki trench coat at the company today.
Who was she?
She looked oddly familiar, like someone Su Yin had seen before.
But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t remember where she’d seen her. With a small sigh, she picked up her pen and began working on practice problems, hoping to finish a set before bed.
Ding dong—
Just then, her phone buzzed from the charger beside the bed. She glanced over, put down her pen, and sat on the edge of the bed.
Zhou Zhou: Wanna hang out tomorrow?</em.
Earlier this evening, Zhou Zhou had come to chat with Su Yin, saying weekends at home were too boring and that she’d rather nap at the cram school.
Su Yin didn’t have many friends. Anyone willing to talk to her was already a blessing. So even when Zhou Zhou ranted or complained, Su Yin was more than happy to be her sounding board.
Zhou Zhou seemed to be the rich second-generation type—never worried about money. She was only repeating her final year because her family thought it would be shameful if she couldn’t get into college, so they pushed her to at least try.
But this rebellious classmate was anything but cooperative. She played games at night, slept through class during the day, and pretty much did whatever she wanted thanks to her family’s money.
The friendship between the bottom two students was strong as steel. Naturally, Zhou Zhou wanted to tell Su Yin everything, even messaging her late at night.
Su Yin tapped into the chat box and replied:
Su Yin: I’m baking mochi tomorrow. Plus, I want to finish a few more practice sets, so I’m staying home.
Zhou Zhou: Mochi? You’re baking it yourself?
Su Yin: It’s safer to make it at home. I’m baking with our housekeeper. Want some? I can bring some to class the day after tomorrow.
Zhou Zhou: Yes, please! I love chocolate flavor. Will you guys make that one?
Su Yin thought for a moment, then replied:
Su Yin: Depends on what ingredients we have. But since you asked, I’ll try to make it happen.
Zhou Zhou replied with a laughing chick emoji and said:
Zhou Zhou: You’re the sweetest, babe!
Su Yin waited for a bit, thinking the conversation was over, and was about to put her phone back on the charger when another message popped up—this time with a link.
Zhou Zhou: #MingMuyaoFangQiongyanAnnounceRelationship#
Zhou Zhou: Check out this gossip—it’s wild.
Su Yin stared at the message, momentarily stunned.
Ming Muyao… is dating someone? How come I didn’t know?
The idea that her lover might have a girlfriend hit Su Yin like a splash of cold water. She clicked the link, and immediately her whole body felt chilled.
Aside from Ming Muyao, the photo also showed someone Su Yin recognized—she’d seen the woman at the company earlier today. She’d thought the woman looked familiar, and now it all made sense.
Fang Qiongyan was actually a second or third-tier celebrity—had played supporting roles in a few dramas and appeared in some variety shows. Not exactly a household name, but she’d shown her face here and there. Su Yin, who’d spent so long cooped up at home with only TV for company, must have seen her on screen at some point.
Looking at the photo, Su Yin didn’t even feel surprised anymore.
Ming Muyao had always liked pretty Omegas with eye-catching looks. Su Yin herself had been picked out and brought home for the same reason. Later, when Ming grew bored of her, she’d simply moved on and flirted around.
It wasn’t until a little over a month ago—after a car accident left her with amnesia—that Ming Muyao began to change.
She became more gentle, more in control of her emotions.
She let Su Yin go back to school. She gave her mother the best medical care.
Everything seemed to be getting better… but thinking back on it now, had Ming Muyao really changed?
Or had she just changed on the surface—didn’t mean she wouldn’t fall for someone else.
Su Yin gripped her phone, staring at the image of Fang Qiongyan walking out of the office building. This is probably more like Ming Muyao’s real life…
A young partner at home. A constant stream of flings and pretty Omegas outside.
Not surprising.
Su Yin lowered her eyes. This really isn’t surprising.
At least the current Ming Muyao gave her some breathing room. If—Su Yin emphasized if—she truly had someone she liked, then maybe it was better to step aside with grace.
After all, Su Yin had never expected Ming Muyao to genuinely love her and her alone.
The next morning, Ming Muyao came out of her room looking exhausted. She’d had a huge fight with Fang Qiongyan the night before. That woman must’ve had something short-circuit in her brain—she’d actually suggested joining them and living happily ever after as a throuple.
Ming Muyao was furious. After blocking Fang Qiongyan, she’d still been too mad to sleep and ended up working in the study until 3 a.m.
Naturally, she overslept. By the time she finally got up, it was already past 10.
She took a shower to wash off the bad vibes. If we had a fire basin in the house, I’d be jumping over it right now.
Once she’d freshened up, she opened the door—and was instantly hit by the sweet, warm smell of baked bread. Following the scent, she found her way to the kitchen.
“What are you baking today? Smells amazing.” Ming Muyao smiled as she looked at the two people busy inside.
Su Yin turned and glanced at her—then suddenly remembered that link she saw last night. Her eyes dimmed with a flicker of pain, and she quickly turned back around without saying a word.
Ming Muyao didn’t notice. Hearing Aunt Chen say they were baking mochi, she happily turned to Su Yin and said, “Which ones did you make? I want to be the first to try them when they’re ready.”
Su Yin didn’t even look at her. She just let out a soft “Mm” and continued working.
Ming Muyao felt a bit puzzled, but didn’t think too much of it. After all, they’d just shared their first real kiss yesterday—this was supposed to be the honeymoon phase. Whatever Su Yin did, she found it adorable.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Ming Muyao glanced over and cheerfully said, “Don’t worry, I’ll get it.”
