Rumor Has It, That Omega Rocked the Stage Again! - Chapter 2
As Ji Yu sized up Mu Li, Mu Li was also observing her. Mu Li responded, “Hello.”
Ji Yu nodded, masking the admiration in her eyes, and said, “To be precise, I am already your partner.”
Mu Li replied with a hint of self-mockery, “I know. I was also notified by my father. From engaged to married—it’s only been two days.”
“The Federation mandates that newlyweds cannot divorce within the first year. I don’t even know if I can last that long,” Ji Yu said helplessly, her expression tinged with melancholy. “I can’t protect you for long, and there’s little else I can offer. But I can assist you with your education.”
After the original host’s college entrance exams, despite scoring high enough to enter any school in the Federation, the Mu family disregarded her wishes and enrolled her in a specialized Omega school.
Mu Li frowned. “But I don’t want to attend an Omega-only school. I dislike flower arranging and tea ceremonies, and I refuse to spend my days learning how to please Alphas.”
To ensure the continuation of their lineage, Omegas were indoctrinated from childhood with the ideals of serving their husbands and raising children, as if they were born solely to benefit their maternal families and bear offspring for their spouses. Even if she couldn’t change others’ minds, she refused to be locked away, wasting her life in obscurity.
Ji Yu sighed. “I have no experience dealing with Omegas. This marriage wasn’t my intention, but I will make amends.”
Mu Li shook her head, not expecting anything in return. In her understanding, effort and reward were equal. Ji Yu had no obligation to do anything for her.
“Go take a look at your room first. If you need anything, just ask Uncle Wang,” Ji Yu said, her complexion noticeably paler than before. Those few words alone seemed to have drained a significant amount of her Mental Strength. As Mu Li turned away, a trace of concern flickered in her heart.
Mu Li spent the day researching various schools in the Federation. To her, everything here was entirely new. Fortunately, the original host had just graduated high school, making it the perfect time to enroll, so Mu Li didn’t have to worry about falling behind in her studies.
In this era of advanced technology, humanity no longer needed to fear threats from nature—if one planet became uninhabitable, they could simply move to another. The primary danger came from external forces—the Zerg. That was why Ji Yu’s reputation among the people rivaled even the president’s. Whoever could ensure the Federation’s peace and security earned their recognition.
Mu Li was captivated by a Mecha operation video on the webpage. It was a recording of Ji Yu during her time at the military academy. The First Military Academy took pride in having nurtured such an outstanding student and featured the video on their admissions page.
Ji Yu’s movements were crisp and decisive, quickly overpowering her opponent. Whether in physical prowess or Mental Strength, Ji Yu was formidable. Watching her operate the Mecha ignited a fire within Mu Li, as if everything had suddenly become clear.
Mu Li sought out the butler and asked, “Uncle Wang, the Marshal said I’m free to choose any school, right?”
“Yes, Miss Mu. Do you have a preferred school or field of study?”
“I heard that Marshal Ji once attended the First Military Academy, graduated ahead of schedule, and achieved perfect scores in theory, combat, and Mecha operation.”
The butler’s face lit up with pride. “The Marshal has always been exceptional since childhood.”
The butler’s thoughts drifted back to the time when Ji Yu’s parents were still alive. Back then, Ji Yu was far from the composed person she is now. She had once been youthful and spirited, fond of breaking conventions and refusing to be restrained. At the military academy, she often engaged in duels, fights, and damaged mechas, making calls from the principal to her parents a regular occurrence.
Later, with the passing of her loved ones, the young Ji Yu shouldered the heavy responsibilities of the Ji family and safeguarded the peace of the Federation. Her innocence seemed to vanish overnight, never to return to the willful ways of her youth. Privately, finding a partner for Ji Yu was also a hope that she might regain some happiness and rediscover the joy of her past.
With eyes full of admiration, Mu Li declared firmly, “I want to attend the First Military Academy and study the same major she once did.”
The butler looked at Mu Li in shock. Although Mu Li didn’t have the petite frame typical of most Omegas, she certainly didn’t possess the physique of Alpha either. The First Military Academy was predominantly populated by Alphas, with Betas and Omegas making up a very small minority, mostly in administrative and medical fields.
After a moment’s thought, the butler said, “Like other schools, the First Military Academy requires high school graduation exam scores for admission. However, major selection occurs at the start of the term. Particularly for popular departments like the Combat Command Department and the Mecha Manufacturing Major, physical fitness tests and mecha piloting assessments are required. There are still three months until the term begins. If you wish to enter the Combat Command Department where the young mistress once studied, you’ll need to improve your abilities comprehensively.”
“How difficult are physical tests? How should I prepare?” Mu Li asked.
The butler sighed regretfully. “If the young mistress were still in good health, anyone trained by her would undoubtedly be among the best.”
Hearing this, Mu Li also felt a pang of sorrow. But the butler quickly continued, “The young mistress has many trusted allies in the military department. You could ask her for recommendations regarding instructors.”
Mu Li nodded. “Alright.”
When Ji Yu heard the news, she was equally surprised. It was rare for an Omega to voluntarily seek entry into a military academy. Unless they were nobles aiming for better marriage prospects, Omegas were seldom sent to the First Military Academy, and even then, they typically chose easier majors to mingle early with heirs from other families.
Mu Li’s graduation scores were sufficient for admission to the First Military Academy. Considering Mu Li’s delicate frame, Ji Yu mused, “Let me think about it. I’ll make arrangements for her.”
The next day, as Mu Li was having lunch downstairs, she suddenly heard a loud “bang” from upstairs, followed by the sound of objects scattering. The butler hurried upstairs, explaining to Mu Li as he went, “It must be another episode of the young mistress’s Mental Strength disorder.”
Ji Yu’s condition had been worsening with each episode. Though she usually appeared unaffected, relying solely on her formidable willpower to suppress it, she was in truth on the verge of complete collapse. Whenever her control slipped, like now, her Mental Strength would run wild, indiscriminately attacking objects in the room.
The butler used a spare key to open Ji Yu’s door. Inside, they found Ji Yu curled up on the floor, clutching her head and writhing in pain. The room was in chaos—decorations knocked over when Ji Yu fell, objects shattered by her uncontrolled Mental Strength. Ji Yu lay on the ground, her body bearing multiple wounds from the scattered debris.
Mu Li was about to enter the room to help when the butler stopped her: “Miss Mu, your Mental Strength level is too low—you’ll be attacked. It’s better to wait outside. I’ve already notified the high-level Alpha members of the Ji family, and they’ll arrive soon.”
Previously, the Ji family had sought out an S-rank Omega to assist Ji Yu, but every time Ji Yu had an episode, the Omega would be attacked by her Mental Strength before even getting close to the room, fainting instantly. According to investigations, Mu Li was merely a B-rank Omega in terms of Mental Strength. Approaching under such circumstances would undoubtedly be a death sentence.
Mu Li paused at the door and sensed the aggression in the air. While it was palpable, it didn’t seem severe enough to cause significant harm. Seeing Ji Yu still collapsed on the floor, even if she wasn’t driven mad by the Mental Strength torment, she would likely be covered in cuts from the shattered debris around her.
Without hesitation, Mu Li shut the door, locking the butler outside. She then summoned her Mental Strength to form a protective barrier around herself and stepped forward.
Ji Yu was already unconscious, her body trembling intermittently with spasms, while her Mental Strength continued to ravage the room’s furnishings. Yet as Mu Li approached, she remained unharmed.
This indirectly confirmed Mu Li’s suspicion: she wasn’t the original owner with B-rank Mental Strength. Perhaps the Spiritual Power from her past life had followed her into this world, transforming herself into Mental Strength.
Mu Li helped Ji Yu onto the bed. Though Ji Yu stood nearly a head taller, her recent suffering had left her body gaunt, making it easier for Mu Li to move her. Ji Yu’s eyes were tightly shut, her brows slightly furrowed, a far cry from the radiant image seen in StarNet photos. Now, she looked frail, like a gravely ill patient.
Drawing from the original owner’s knowledge, Mu Li cautiously extended her Mental tentacles into Ji Yu’s Sea of Consciousness. What she found was both awe-inspiring and terrifying. An endless darkness obscured its true form, hiding any glimpses of Ji Yu’s past experiences.
Massive tangles of Mental tentacles coiled tightly together, marred by countless black spots—likely the venom injected by the Queen Zerg. Each time, Ji Yu had forcibly suppressed the agony in her Sea of Consciousness with her Mental Strength. Over time, this had left her Mental Strength increasingly chaotic, teetering on the brink of collapse.
Mu Li had always been resilient. In her long years of cultivation, she had often endured her wounds alone. Yet Ji Yu, suffering so severely, hadn’t uttered a single sound. Mu Li couldn’t fathom how anyone could endure such torment.
She carefully extended more Mental tentacles, first unraveling the surface layers of Ji Yu’s tangled Mental Strength before meticulously cleansing the black spots one by one. Ji Yu’s Mental Strength was a chaotic mess, requiring immense patience to untangle.
All the while, Mu Li had to remain vigilant against potential counterattacks from Ji Yu’s Sea of Consciousness. Had Ji Yu been conscious, this wouldn’t have been a concern—but in her current state, it was a constant risk.
Three hours later, after untangling the surface layers, Mu Li withdrew from Ji Yu’s Sea of Consciousness. Having used her Mental Strength for the first time, she was utterly drained. She staggered to the door to let the butler in, but before she could speak, she collapsed.
The butler swiftly caught her and carried her to a neighboring room, summoning a physician to attend to her.
The doctor examined Ji Yu and exclaimed joyfully, “This is truly a miracle! The Marshal’s condition seems much more stable, and the dark spots caused by the venom have also reduced. Did that Omega just help the Marshal with mental strength guidance? Perhaps a few more sessions, and the Marshal might recover completely.”
The butler was overjoyed. Previously, no matter which doctor they consulted, no one could do anything about Ji Yu’s condition, merely prescribing some calming and pain-relieving potions before leaving. Who would have thought that a simple marriage match could bring such a pleasant surprise?
When Ji Yu woke up, she clearly felt a sense of relief she hadn’t experienced in a long time. This wasn’t something medical treatment could achieve—only an Omega with equal or higher Mental Strength could accomplish this. Yet, no Omega had been around her.
Wait, that wasn’t entirely true. Ji Yu’s mind suddenly flashed into Mu Li’s face. Was it Mu Li? If she could really recover—tch, it seemed she’d have to take responsibility for this Omega after all.
But back at the First Military Academy, many Omegas had confessed their feelings to her, and she was terrified of such creatures. Delicate and prone to whimpering, Ji Yu felt that perhaps dealing with Mental Strength Disorder was still preferable to taking care of someone?
