Rumor Has It, That Omega Rocked the Stage Again! - Chapter 20
Ji Yu addressed the noblewomen, “Tomorrow is the weekend, and there won’t be many people at the school. So you’ll go to the First Military Academy’s campus forum and issue a public apology under your real names.”
Before the playboys could respond, Ji Yu took a few steps toward Mu Li’s direction, then seemed to remember something and added, “If your apology is insincere or distorts the truth, even if I can’t make you drop out, I can certainly ensure the military department’s doors remain permanently closed to you.”
Her veiled threat, while ostensibly only about barring them from military service, carried deeper implications. For business families, this might not seem catastrophic at first glance.
But with the Ji family’s vast network of influence, anyone they ostracized would find no allies willing to help. Whether friendly with the Ji family or not, everyone would gladly grant them this favors. After all, when the Zerg attacked, without Ji Yu, no one could guarantee they’d live to see another sunrise.
The playboys and their mothers nodded repeatedly, the matter settled. Then they slunk away, a far cry from their earlier arrogance. Staying any longer risked provoking the Marshal’s displeasure and additional demands.
These wealthy matrons might lack other skills, but reading situations was their forte. It was clear Ji Yu had come to defend those five students—they knew better than to push their luck.
After the group departed, Ji Yu and the five Mecha Squad members bid farewell to the teachers and left the principal’s office.
Once outside the administration building, the five finally relaxed, exhaling in relief. Just as they were about to thank Ji Yu, they noticed her expression darken. Though silent, her demeanor felt like the calm before a storm, simmering with unspoken fury.
But Ji Yu had just defended them—could something else have angered her? They exchanged bewildered glances, none guessing the reason.
The thought of Mu Li nearly being falsely accused—a stain that could have barred her from the military department forever, cutting her off from her dreams—filled Ji Yu with inexplicable rage. What galled her most was that while her intervention could have resolved everything instantly, Mu Li hadn’t even sought her help.
Forcing her expression to neutral, Ji Yu turned to the group behind her. “Mu Li, come with me. The rest of you return to the Mecha Club.”
Having nearly faced punishment together, the Mecha Squad had developed unprecedented solidarity. Thinking Ji Yu meant to discipline Mu Li alone, the others protested, “Instructor, we’re all responsible for this. You can’t just blame Mu Li.”
Ji Yu didn’t bother correcting their misunderstanding. How could she explain this was personal—that she was upset Mu Li hadn’t turned to her in crisis?
She and Mu Li had an unspoken agreement to keep their marriage private. Addressing personal matters publicly would draw unwanted attention.
Mu Li watched Ji Yu in confusion, but seeing her serious expression, told the others, “I’ll be back soon. Go ahead with your training.” As she stepped forward, a hand suddenly grasped hers.
Kevin didn’t know how to broach the subject. He just felt he couldn’t let Mu Li face Ji Yu’s anger alone, so his hand instinctively grabbed Mu Li’s arm. “Why did the instructor call you out alone? Are you going by yourself? What if she lashes out at you?” Kevin asked.
Mu Li didn’t think too much about it and immediately defended Ji Yu, “She wouldn’t do that. She’s not that kind of person.”
“But…” Kevin still didn’t let go of Mu Li, raising his eyebrows at her. “How about I go with you? I can take a hit. Besides, it’s not good for an Alpha and an Omega to be alone together. What could she possibly say that we can’t hear?”
When Mu Li was pulled aside, Ji Yu walked over. After hearing Kevin’s words, she was almost amused by anger. “Did I say I was going to reprimand Mu Li? What do you mean it’s not good for the two of us to be alone together? Then isn’t it also inappropriate for you to grab her arm? Alphas and Omegas should maintain boundaries.”
Ji Yu usually carried herself with composure, but after spending so much time with Mu Li at school, it was as if she had reverted to her student days. Her once quick-tempered nature resurfaced when it came to matters involving Mu Li. Fortunately, the others were still intimidated by Ji Yu’s earlier demeanor and didn’t question her uncharacteristic outburst.
Kevin’s face flushed red, and he immediately released Mu Li’s arm. “I—I didn’t mean it like that.”
Seeing Kevin’s embarrassment, Ji Yu signaled for Mu Li to follow her and headed toward the spaceship nearby.
Mu Li turned to Kevin and said, “Sorry, you guys go ahead with training. I’ll catch up after talking with the instructor.”
Once inside the spaceship, Ji Yu activated autopilot without setting a course, letting the ship drift aimlessly at high altitude.
Mu Li felt a bit uneasy in the confined space and cautiously asked, “What was that about earlier? After those students left, you seemed… different.”
Before she could finish, Ji Yu suddenly strode toward her. Mu Li, already standing by the wall, instinctively stepped back until her back hit the hull. Ji Yu braced her hands on either side of Mu Li’s head, her eyes scanning Mu Li’s face from top to bottom.
After calming herself, Ji Yu spoke sternly, “Mu Li, if I hadn’t been there today, how would you have handled the situation?”
“I… I don’t know,” Mu Li admitted honestly, shaking her head. At the time, she had no idea how to negotiate with those entitled, wealthy matrons who favored connections over reason. Luckily, Ji Yu had intervened. “I didn’t think much about it. I just felt terrible for my teammates. The conflict was between me and Mu Anming, but others got dragged into it.”
Mu Li hated owing favors. If the other four had been punished because of her, she wouldn’t have known how to face them afterward.
Ji Yu shook her head and said earnestly, “I’m not blaming you for that. Do you realize that if those spoiled brats had turned the tables on you, not only would you be barred from the Mecha League, but you’d never even set foot in the military department again? The Federation military rejects students with blemished records.”
Trapped within Ji Yu’s arms, Mu Li shifted uncomfortably. When she looked up, she met Ji Yu’s gaze. Just as she was about to ask Ji Yu to let her go, Ji Yu spoke first, “I know you have many things you want to accomplish, and you’ll encounter all sorts of people in the future.”
If you’re unwilling to publicly acknowledge our relationship, then you can’t actively utilize the Ji family’s influence. What will you do if you encounter those who habitually abuse their power to bully you again?
So when you face danger or difficulties, can you think of me first? Consider me as your primary option? To me, you’re both a responsibility and something I willingly embrace—not just because you saved my life.
Have I ever told you how much I look forward to seeing you in the military department someday?
I’ve never asked anything of you before, but this time I’m truly afraid. Afraid that if I hadn’t curiously gone to the principal’s office, all your efforts would have turned to nothing.”
Ji Yu paused, leaning closer to Mu Li’s ear and whispering, “Mumu, I’m your Alpha. I worry too, you know.”
Mu Li’s face instantly flushed red, her eyes staring blankly at Ji Yu as those last words seemed to echo endlessly in her ears. She found herself at a complete loss for words.
Ji Yu’s past kindness had been like life-giving dew to a parched desert traveler, warming her lonely heart that had endured solitude for centuries. She had reciprocated with equal sincerity, doing everything she could to help Ji Yu recover—considering them even.
But now, Ji Yu’s words seemed to transcend Mu Li’s understanding. She could sense that Ji Yu’s care and concern went beyond mere responsibility, though she couldn’t quite define what more it was.
It was a feeling she’d never experienced before, yet it didn’t repel her. This inexplicable emotion gathered in her chest, flowing like warm currents that watered the barren fields of her heart, causing long-buried seeds to sprout and take root.
When the spaceship landed at the Mecha Club, although the atmosphere between Mu Li and Ji Yu had returned to normal, Ji Yu still stepped off somewhat awkwardly. On one hand, having finally voiced her true feelings lifted a weight off her chest, but on the other, Mu Li’s lack of response left her deeply unsettled.
Ji Yu’s face betrayed nothing, but her uncoordinated gait betrayed her inner turmoil.
Walking behind her, Mu Li gently tugged at the back of Ji Yu’s clothes.
Ji Yu stopped and turned with a questioning look.
Clearing her throat, Mu Li said, “You’re walking out of step.”
Ji Yu immediately straightened up. Years of military discipline made her movements precise to perfection. The sharp click of her heels snapping together plunged them back into awkwardness.
“You…”
“You…” they spoke simultaneously.
“Go ahead,” “You first.”
Their eyes met, and identical smiles curved their lips.
Mu Li teased, “Maybe you shouldn’t go in today. What if the mecha starts walking like that too?”
Ji Yu gave her a resigned look, realizing her current state might not be suitable for public appearances—especially with Mu Li nearby. Reaching out to adjust Mu Li’s collar, she nodded. “I’ll wait at the apartment. Come find me when you’re done?”
The gesture froze Mu Li again. She anxiously scanned their surroundings before exhaling in relief at finding no observers.
Noticing this, Ji Yu muttered, “Why so nervous? We’re not some sneaking-around couple—we’re literally married.”
Mu Li glanced at her: “Are you that eager to announce our marriage? Then you won’t be the most eligible Alpha in the entire Federation anymore.”
Ji Yu replied nonchalantly: “What does that matter? I have you.”
I have you.
Have you.
You.
The blush that had barely faded on the spaceship gradually returned to Mu Li’s cheeks.
Originally intending to tease Ji Yu, she unexpectedly fell into her own trap. Not wanting to continue bantering with Ji Yu, Mu Li turned and ran into the Mecha Club without looking back.
