Rumor Has It, That Omega Rocked the Stage Again! - Chapter 3
The butler briefly recounted the afternoon’s events to Ji Yu. Even though the butler’s words didn’t mention the actual situation at the time, Ji Yu understood how dangerous it had been when Mu Li entered the room alone—for an Omega with ordinary Mental Strength, it would have been life-threatening!
At this thought, Ji Yu narrowed her eyes and said thoughtfully, “Wasn’t Mu Li supposed to have B-Rank Mental Strength? How did she manage to heal me?”
The butler also looked puzzled. “But your condition did improve because of her.”
Ji Yu said, “I’ll go see her first. Fortunately, we have a Mental Strength testing device at home. If she’s willing, we can test her again anytime.” Though she said this, both of them knew Mu Li’s Mental Strength was likely extremely high.
Knock knock knock. Ji Yu rapped on Mu Li’s door. Mu Li, now awake, replied, “The door’s unlocked. Come in.”
“The butler told me you were the one who helped stabilize my Mental Strength and cleared the dark spots?” Ji Yu asked.
Not wanting Ji Yu to think she had concealed her true Mental Strength level, Mu Li nodded. “You collapsed on the floor, and the butler and others didn’t dare approach, afraid of being hurt by your Mental Strength. I happened to be able to enter, so I tried to help. I didn’t expect it to actually work.”
“Do you know your Mental Strength level?”
Mu Li guessed Ji Yu’s purpose for coming and said, “You must have seen my records—B-Rank.”
Ji Yu explained, “The fact that you could heal me means you’re definitely not an ordinary Omega. You’re likely a high-level Mental Strength user, something the Federation has never seen before.”
Seeing Ji Yu bring it up, Mu Li continued, “Could you help me test my Mental Strength again?”
“Of course. The Ji family has close ties with the military department, so we have a Mental Strength testing device.”
“Then let’s do it now.”
Mu Li followed Ji Yu to the basement, where various Mecha lined the perimeter. In one room sat Ji Yu’s personal Mecha—Michael. At the center of the basement was the Mental Strength testing device.
Ji Yu explained, “Place your hand on the center of the testing platform. Don’t deliberately suppress your Mental Strength—the machine will automatically detect it.”
Mu Li nodded to show she understood, then stepped into the testing chamber. Taking a deep breath, she placed her hand on the console.
A green indicator light lit up, and a massive beam appeared on the display, starting from F-Rank and rising quickly through E, then climbing steadily until it reached A-Rank.
Then it jumped from A to S-Rank, and suddenly, the surrounding lights brightened. The ascent slowed noticeably at S-Rank, lingering for a while before jumping to SS-Rank.
But the progression didn’t stop there. The beam on the display continued to climb slowly, inching closer to the top of the scale. As time passed, the screen suddenly flashed brilliantly—the original beam vanished, replaced by an explosion of light across the display.
SSS-Rank! An Omega with SSS-Rank Mental Strength, something the Federation had never seen before!
When Mu Li stepped out of the testing chamber, Ji Yu looked at her with concern and asked, “Well? What’s the result?”
Mu Li herself was also astonished. Could it be that her past Spiritual Power was so immense that it directly propelled her to the highest level of Mental Strength in this world? As far as she knew, the Federation had produced Alphas like Ji Yu with SSS-Rank Mental Strength, but there had never been an Omega above S-Rank. Yet, she was actually SSS-Rank—the only one capable of helping Ji Yu regulate her Mental Strength and cleanse the dark spots in her Sea of Consciousness.
People regarded Ji Yu as a guardian deity, and Mu Li could empathize with that sense of solitude. Once, she too had walked the path of her own moral convictions. Precisely because Mu Li understood, she wanted even more to help Ji Yu recover. Hearing that Ji Yu’s past personality was vastly different from her current one, Mu Li felt that even if she couldn’t warm Ji Yu’s lonely heart, she couldn’t stand by and watch a hero fall into ruin.
Mu Li made an effort to appear more approachable, blinking her eyes as she said, “It’s SSS-Rank.”
After discussion, Ji Yu and Mu Li decided to conceal Mu Li’s Mental Strength level for the time being. They would only reveal it publicly once Mu Li had achieved sufficient accomplishments. After all, an SSS-Rank Omega was exceedingly rare, and there was no guarantee that desperate individuals wouldn’t take reckless risks for wealth, putting Mu Li in danger.
However, their peaceful days didn’t last long before the Ji household received unexpected visitors.
“We are Mu Li’s family. Let us in immediately,” Mu Anming declared haughtily to the gatekeeper.
“Apologies, madam, but without orders to permit entry, we cannot let you in. Please don’t make this difficult for us,” the gatekeeper replied before sending someone inside to report.
Mu Anlan rushed forward to explain, “I’m Mu Anlan, the younger sister of Mu Li, the wife of the Ji family head. My sister must have been too busy to inform you. Could you please report again? We have something very important to discuss with her.”
Although the Ji family’s betrothal gifts had resolved the Mu family’s urgent financial crisis, no one had anticipated Mu Anming’s reckless behavior. Raised as the Mu family’s heir, he had been indulged and acted without restraint. After being goaded by a few second-generation heirs, he took up gambling. At first, he won a few times and grew convinced of his gambling prowess, increasing his stakes.
When he lost everything, he embezzled public funds. Now that the scandal had come to light, the Mu family urgently needed funds to cover the deficit and provide an explanation to shareholders and executives.
The butler noticed the commotion and approached Ji Yu and Mu Li after inquiring. “Miss Ji, Miss Mu, there are individuals at the gate claiming to be your family. Shall we let them in?”
Ji Yu felt a headache coming on. She had little patience for family dramas. But since this involved her own Omega—and Mu Li had been working tirelessly to regulate her Mental Strength and cleanse the dark spots—what else could she do? She might as well let them in. Ji Yu gave the butler a glance, and he turned to leave.
The four members of the Mu family walked in, marveling at the ancient castle—the older it was, the more valuable. The Ji family’s estate clearly bore the weight of history. Mu Anlan began to regret: if only she had been the one to live here. How could Mu Li, with her B-Rank Mental Strength, be worthy?
When the Mu family entered, Ji Yu and Mu Li were sitting side by side on the sofa, seemingly discussing something. Mu Ye, seeing the two getting along so harmoniously, felt a slight relief in his anxious heart.
Upon seeing Ji Yu, Mu Anlan stepped forward to greet her, her voice delicate and slightly affected. “Hello, sister. I’m Mu Anlan, Mu Li’s younger sister. I’m also an Omega.”
Ji Yu turned her head. They were all surnamed Mu, so why was this Omega so affected? Ji Yu felt that the word “sister” had given her goosebumps all over. “As far as I know, my mother-in-law only has Mumu as her child, right? You’d better call me Marshal.”
Mu Li felt somewhat uncomfortable being called “Mumu” by Ji Yu. Had Ji Yu asked for her permission? No!
Mu Anlan awkwardly smiled, pretending as if nothing had just happened. Hearing Ji Yu’s words, her face turned red and then pale in a rather dramatic display. But for Mu Anming’s sake, she had to suppress her displeasure.
Mu Ye, upon hearing Ji Yu’s words, also had his face turn red and then pale in a striking manner. Yet, for Mu Anming’s matter, he had no choice but to hold back his anger. Instead, he turned to Mu Li and snapped, “Mu Li, can’t you see people here? Why aren’t you greeting them?”
Hearing Mu Li being scolded, Ji Yu felt a surge of displeasure. She had to constantly yield to Mu Li to maintain the good upbringing of an Alpha, so how could these people dare to bully someone right in front of her?
“When the Mu family agreed to the Ji family’s conditions, Mu Li married me and thus became part of the Ji family. Although you are her father, scolding my person right in front of me—do you not take the Ji family seriously at all?”
Mu Ye was instantly silenced. This was the Ji residence. If the Ji family wanted to target the Mu family, the Mu family would have no means to fight back. Forced to swallow his pride, Mu Ye put on an ingratiating smile and said, “We’re all family here. Let’s not ruin the harmony.”
Through her interactions with Ji Yu, Mu Li could tell from Ji Yu’s expression that she was already impatient. “Just state your purpose for coming today directly.”
Mu Anlan immediately chimed in, “Sister, we’re not used to you being away from home. We miss you so much.”
Mu Li sneered inwardly. Miss her? More like they hadn’t bullied the original host in a while and felt unaccustomed to not having someone to mock.
With a troubled expression, Mu Li said, “The Ji family gave the Mu family so many benefits back then. Without the Ji family’s consent, it’s not appropriate for me to return home.”
Ji Yu, watching Mu Li’s earnest display of distress from the side, turned her head to suppress the laughter that nearly escaped her lips. It seemed this Omega wasn’t as naive as she had thought. Since the little one wanted to put on a show, she’d play along.
Ji Yu cooperated, “That’s my fault. From now on, wherever you want to go, I’ll accompany you.”
Xu Li interrupted, “A-Li, your father’s company is facing some financial difficulties recently. Could you help out? We’re all family, after all.”
Mu Li pondered. The Ji family had given generous betrothal gifts for her sake—not just a large sum of money but also multiple additional collaborations. Yet, barely half a month later, the Mu family was already coming to beg for help. Something was definitely off. “You haven’t even mentioned what the project is. Isn’t that a bit lacking in sincerity?”
Mu Ye’s face darkened instantly, unsure how to respond. If he stormed out now, everything in the Mu family would change hands. “It’s… it’s your brother. He gambled and owed money, then embezzled company funds. Now the audit has uncovered it.”
Ji Yu and Mu Li exchanged a glance, both seeing the “I knew it” look in each other’s eyes. Ji Yu said, “We can give you the money, but there are conditions.”
Hearing there was room for negotiation, Xu Li quickly said, “Whatever the conditions, as long as we can fulfill them, we’ll agree.”
“First, Mumu’s and my marriage must remain undisclosed to the public. Remember, she is unmarried.”
“Second, within a week, I want to see all of Mumu’s mother’s dowry at the Ji family.”
Xu Li felt a pang of guilt. When she had taken over the Mu household, she had seized all the belongings of the former mistress. Forcing a smile, she said, “These were always A-Li’s things. How forgetful of me—I’ll send them over next week.”
“Third, regarding all of Mumu’s identification documents and guardianship, they are to be transferred to the Ji family.”
Mu Ye understood the implication—this was to sever ties. But to resolve the urgent crisis, he had no choice but to agree. “Fine.”
After the Mu family left, Ji Yu circled around Mu Li with an expression that practically begged for praise, making Mu Li chuckle despite herself. Yet, as she thought about the demands Ji Yu had made on her behalf, Mu Li gazed at Ji Yu with a complicated expression.
