Rumor Has It, That Omega Rocked the Stage Again! - Chapter 5
Inside the room, Mu Li was already showing the early signs of entering her Heat. A high fever had set in, and her consciousness was gradually fading. This was her first Heat since coming of age. The original owner of this body had never experienced such a thing, so Mu Li had no idea about the specific symptoms of Heat.
Mu Li’s entire body burned with fever. She desperately tried to stay conscious but could only clutch at the blankets on the bed in confusion. As she tugged at the covers, she accidentally pulled the pillow, which then knocked over a decorative item on the nightstand—this was the sound Ji Yu had heard.
When Ji Yu opened the door, she was immediately hit by a sharp, pungent peppery scent, but it was quickly overtaken by the fragrance of roses. The cool, refreshing rose aroma grew more intoxicating with each breath.
Ji Yu hadn’t expected that Mu Li’s pheromones would mirror her personality. To those who didn’t know her well, Mu Li seemed aloof and unapproachable, like an untouchable flower on a high peak.
But after spending time with her, Ji Yu discovered that Mu Li also possessed the kindness and innocence typical of girls her age. Beneath her tough exterior lay a soft heart—one that revealed sincerity and warmth to those who took the time to truly know her.
Ji Yu felt a fire ignite in her chest, an overwhelming urge searching for something. Suppressing her impulses, she quickly approached Mu Li.
Mu Li lay half-conscious, her face flushed, writhing uncomfortably on the bed. As Ji Yu drew near, Mu Li’s hand clumsily grabbed onto her. The coolness of Ji Yu’s arm was like an oasis to a desert traveler—Mu Li immediately pressed herself against her.
Ji Yu froze at the sudden embrace. By the time she regained her composure, Mu Li had already leaned most of her body against her, and Ji Yu caught the scent of her own pheromones—icy mountain springs—beginning to seep out.
The fragrance of roses intertwined with the crisp chill of the spring water. Under the blazing sun atop the snowy peaks, despite the harsh environment, the roses bloomed their gentlest, most radiant blossoms under the nourishment of the cold spring.
“Mm… ah…” Soft whimpers escaped Mu Li’s lips. Ji Yu felt her self-control slipping, but she couldn’t give in. Her eyes darkened, a sheen of sweat forming on her forehead. Biting her lower lip to stay focused, she hastily tucked Mu Li back under the covers and fled the room.
Once outside, she shut the door and immediately summoned the butler, instructing him to call a doctor for Mu Li’s Heat. Then, she retreated to her own room, retrieved an Alpha-specific inhibitor, and without hesitation, injected it into her arm.
Ji Yu had never used such inhibitors before.
In the past, she had encountered Omegas sent by various factions, but they were all superficial, their pheromones bland and cloying—like the scent of immature sweetness.
Ji Yu despised the loss of control that came with pheromone-driven instincts, the animalistic urges that stripped away reason. Fortunately, those Omegas had low Mental Strength and compatibility, so she had never been affected.
But today, everything changed when she met Mu Li. Mu Li could influence her pheromones. She had just caught a whiff of her own pheromones being drawn out. She had always thought her pheromones were monotonous and cold—until today, when they mingled with Mu Li’s. Only then did she realize how intoxicatingly pleasant they could be, how addictive.
The family doctor arrived quickly. After examining Mu Li’s basic condition, he confirmed it was just symptoms from her first Heat and administered an Inhibitor. Leaving behind a few Potions to replenish her strength, he stepped out.
The doctor said to Ji Yu, “Marshal, the young lady inside is simply experiencing her first Heat, which is normal. Now that she’s been given an Inhibitor, her condition has stabilized. Omegas tend to dehydrate and weaken during Heat. I’ve left a few Potions—they can be injected as directed. If there’s no Alpha to provide comfort, it’s best to administer the Inhibitor before the next Heat arrives. If any new issues arise, you can contact me again. I’ll take my leave now.”
The Federation’s Inhibitor technology was highly advanced. Frequent use wouldn’t burden the body and could even help regulate hormonal balance sometimes.
Ji Yu stayed by Mu Li’s bedside. After listening to the doctor, she nodded. “Thank you, Doctor. Uncle Wang, please see the doctor out.”
The butler bowed slightly and gestured for the doctor to follow, escorting him away.
Meanwhile, far away on Snow Star, the Mu family saw the news of Ji Yu’s recovery and began arguing.
Mu Anlan grabbed Xu Li’s hand and said, “Mom, Mu Li really hit the jackpot. A B-Rank Omega not only married the SSS-Rank Marshal Ji Yu, but now the Marshal has recovered too. She’s really surpassed me in every way now.”
Xu Li patted Mu Anlan’s hand soothingly. “Don’t worry. Maybe it’s just news released to stabilize the Federation’s situation. After all, Marshal Ji hasn’t appeared in public, has she?”
Mu Anming, sprawled lazily on the sofa, chimed in, “Didn’t StarNet say Marshal Ji was cured by a mysterious Omega? Even though treating Mental Strength doesn’t require physical contact, it’s generally considered an intimate relationship. With that Omega around, do you really think Mu Li will have it easy? And hasn’t Ji Yu kept her marriage a secret?”
Mu Anlan seemed convinced, as if Mu Li were truly suffering, and stopped dwelling on it.
Seven days later, Mu Li finally made it through her Heat, much to Ji Yu’s relief. Though Omega Heats occurred only once a year, remembering how Mu Li had lost consciousness that first night, completely defenseless, filled Ji Yu with worry.
When Mu Li woke up, Ji Yu was sitting by the bed. Seeing her open her eyes, Ji Yu stepped forward to help her sit up.
“You just went through Heat, so your body is still weak. Are you feeling any discomfort?” Ji Yu asked.
Mu Li assessed her condition. She felt fine, though her memories of the past few days were hazy. Her skin felt sticky from sweat, but there were no other symptoms—so nothing must have happened between them. Mu Li lifted her head slightly, meeting Ji Yu’s gaze. “I’m fine. I’m a bit sweaty—I’d like to take a shower.”
Ji Yu nodded. “That’s a good idea. Let me help you.”
Ji Yu drew a bath for Mu Li and helped her to the door before turning away, instructing, “Don’t soak too long. Call if you need anything—I’ll be right outside.”
Mu Li responded softly, “Alright.”
After her bath, Mu Li wrapped herself in a towel and stepped out. Her damp hair cascaded loosely over her shoulders, and her fair skin glowed with lingering steam. This was the sight that greeted Ji Yu when she turned around. Ji Yu averted her gaze and said, “Go get dressed first. I’ll dry your hair, then we need to talk.”
Mu Li blurted out, “Aren’t we both women?”
Ji Yu paused before replying, “I’m an Alpha.”
Mu Li had never perceived any fundamental difference between them—just that Ji Yu was stronger and taller. But after experiencing her first Heat, she was forced to recognize that this world differed from her previous one, where the three ABO designations held more significance than mere gender.
Mu Li draped an outer robe over herself and sat beside Ji Yu.
Her hair was soft, lustrous, and silky—a hallmark of classic Asian beauty. As Ji Yu towel-dried it, she advised, “An Omega’s Heat comes once a year. Two days prior, your body temperature will fluctuate. Next time, always carry Inhibitors. Whether it’s your Heat or an Alpha’s Pheromones affecting you, you must protect yourself.”
She paused before adding, “Even though you’re an SSS-Rank Omega and few Alphas can influence you, accidents happen. Especially since you’re about to enroll at First Military Academy, where over half the students are Alphas. I won’t interfere with your choices, but don’t put yourself in danger.”
Mu Li nodded earnestly. “Understood.”
“Almost dry now. Finish with the dryer while I handle military department matters. Rest well these next few days before term starts.” Ji Yu’s gaze dropped to the water droplets tracing Mu Li’s delicate collarbone before vanishing beneath her robe. The memory of Mu Li’s Pheromones from their first night together left Ji Yu’s throat inexplicably parched.
Thrusting the towel at Mu Li, she fled the room.
The Federation’s First Military Academy trained the nation’s future leaders, with graduates directly entering the military department or politics. As the most coveted institution in the Federation, its promising career paths came with fierce competition. Only sixty percent of each graduating class survived to commencement—a brutal statistic.
Three months passed in a blink. With luggage packed by her steward, Mu Li boarded an economical spaceship bound for the Academy.
Surrounded by Alphas and Betas the moment she disembarked, Mu Li—the lone Omega—became an instant focal point. When the crowd glimpsed her beauty, audible gasps rippled through the air.
In a world with ABO ratios of 2:7:1, Omegas were rare anywhere, let alone at a military-focused institution like First Military Academy.
“New student? Your bags look heavy—let me help. Come, I’ll show you to registration.”
“Do you not understand the concept of first come, first served? Let me take you there, I know the campus better.”
“Do you have a partner? Want to exchange contacts? I have no bad habits and am devoted—always available when needed.”
Mu Li was surrounded by the crowd, the press of bodies making her extremely uncomfortable.
She took a step back and said, “Thank you for your kindness, but I have a navigation map. There’s no need to trouble you.”
Alphas always preferred softer, more delicate Omegas. Since Mu Li was like this, they didn’t want to trouble themselves further. Though she was beautiful, she was too difficult to tame. While Omegas were scarce at the school, there were still some—and many were far more approachable than Mu Li.
After completing her enrollment procedures, Mu Li ran into a familiar face she hadn’t seen in a long time—Mu Anming.
