Rumor Has It, That Omega Rocked the Stage Again! - Chapter 8
The judges on the panel also cast curious glances at Mu Li. The Combat Command Department had always been dominated by Alphas. If a capable Omega could join their ranks, it would indeed warrant the exclamation, “The younger generation is formidable.”
Mu Li’s victory had a striking effect—no one dared challenge her afterward. Given her already high ranking and the recent demonstration of her skills, no one was foolish enough to step forward for a beating.
“Hello, I’m Kevin, an Alpha. I watched your performance just now. You’re different from any Omega I’ve met before—you surprised me. You’re exceptional.”
Kevin Albert was the Alpha who shared the top score with Mu Li. After observing her for a while, he couldn’t resist the urge to get to know this unique Omega and extended a friendly hand.
Mu Li shook his hand and replied, “You’re impressive too. Nice to meet you.”
Kevin said, “Barring any surprises, we’ll be classmates from now on. I hope we get the chance to spar in Mecha combat someday. Your swordsmanship is outstanding.”
Mu Li nodded. “Sure. I’m just skilled with a sword—there’s still a lot I don’t know about Mecha. I’ll be counting on your guidance.”
After Mu Li successfully entered the Combat Command Department, the news didn’t just stir the freshmen—it sent shockwaves through the entire First Military Academy. There were plenty of curious onlookers and skeptics.
But Mu Li had no time to dwell on the gossip. With the specialization assignments completed, the holiday break had arrived, and she was eager to share the good news with Ji Yu—proof that she hadn’t wasted the months of guidance Ji Yu had given her.
The spaceship landed on the open grounds of the Ji residence. As Mu Li opened the hatch, she saw Ji Yu standing a short distance away, waiting for her. No matter how long she was gone, the knowledge that someone was always there to welcome her back made Mu Li’s chest tighten, as if gripped by an unseen force. She quickened her steps toward Ji Yu, stopping a meter away.
Even though only a few days had passed, Mu Li missed the days at the Ji household, where Ji Yu had taught her combat and Mecha skills. She had never felt a sense of belonging to anyone or anything before, yet in this unfamiliar world, she had come to know and understand Ji Yu.
Ji Yu asked warmly, “You must have chosen your specialization by now. Did you get the one you wanted?”
A faint smile touched Mu Li’s lips. “We’re in the same department now, Senior. I’ll be counting on your guidance.”
Ji Yu thought to herself, As expected of someone I trained. “Congratulations, then.”
Unlike other Alphas, Ji Yu harbored no doubts about Mu Li’s choice or abilities. After all, she knew Mu Li possessed SSS-Rank Mental Strength—even if Mu Li lacked technical expertise, that alone made her superior to most who had trained in these fields since childhood.
Moreover, Mu Li’s mastery of melee weapons left Ji Yu astonished. Her movements were fluid, precise, and lightning-fast—an unexpected advantage in an era dominated by firearms, catching opponents off guard.
From Ji Yu’s perspective, Mu Li’s decision to join the Combat Command Department was one she supported. Though their marriage had begun as a transaction, if Mu Li never brought up dissolving it, Ji Yu had no intention of letting go.
Perhaps it was because she had been alone for too long. Now that someone had barged into her world and offered warmth, she could no longer bear to let go.
“I’ll go take a shower first. Have you been busy lately? Maybe we can talk about anything later?” Mu Li turned to Ji Yu.
“Alright, go ahead. I’ve already finished handling military department affairs. I’ll wait for you downstairs,” Ji Yu replied.
Mu Li jogged upstairs as if racing against time. “Hey, slow down. I’ll be right here in the living room,” Ji Yu called after her.
Mu Li slowed her pace and turned back to answer, “Okay.”
After her shower, Mu Li came down to the first floor. Ji Yu was sitting on the sofa, holding the remote and flipping through TV channels. Seeing Mu Li emerge, Ji Yu asked, “What would you like to watch?”
“Anything is fine, just pick one.”
Ji Yu stuffed the remote into Mu Li’s hand and sighed. Indeed, Omegas needed looking after. See? The moment she’s left alone, she can’t manage. Where else would you find such a perfect Alpha like her? Ji Yu said to Mu Li, “Why didn’t you dry your hair again? What if you get a headache later?”
It wasn’t that Mu Li intentionally avoided drying her hair—she used to be able to dry it with Spiritual Power, but now her Mental Strength didn’t seem to have that function. “I just forgot. I’ll remember next time.”
Ji Yu gave her a helpless look. A good Alpha should take the initiative to dry their Omega’s hair—but Mumu’s hair was so soft! Resigned, Ji Yu fetched the hairdryer, and the whirring sound filled the air.
As Ji Yu’s fingertips occasionally brushed against Mu Li’s ears and other exposed skin, Mu Li’s face gradually flushed, her earlobes turning pink. Mu Li thought perhaps the hairdryer was too hot, making her feel warm.
Unbeknownst to Mu Li, the deepening blush on her face and the small, unconscious gestures of fiddling with her ears were all noticed by Ji Yu. Ji Yu smiled but didn’t point it out, continuing to dry Mu Li’s soft hair.
“All done,” Ji Yu said, putting away the hairdryer and sitting on the nearby sofa. “Are you adjusting well to school life? I remember the semester just started—they shouldn’t be giving you a hard time yet, right?”
“Yeah, it’s fine. I have a single dorm, so I don’t have to worry about conflicts with roommates.”
Mu Li picked out the good parts to share with Ji Yu, but just because she didn’t mention it didn’t mean Ji Yu was unaware. Ji Yu had also graduated from First Military Academy and knew all too well that the school prioritized Alpha strength. As an Omega, Mu Li’s achievements filled her with both pride and concern.
Ji Yu carefully chose her words and probed, “Has anyone given you trouble? If you’re being bullied, don’t hold it in. The Ji family will always have your back.”
Seeing Ji Yu’s protective, ready-to-fight demeanor, Mu Li shook her head. “We’re all freshmen—no one dares to do much. I shut them up with my Mecha. Don’t worry, I can handle it myself. If things really get out of hand, I hope Marshal Ji will stand up for me.” By the end, Mu Li had put on a pitiful expression.
Ji Yu looked at Mu Li’s rare display of such vivid expressions—how could she refuse? Even if others called her foolish for beauty’s sake, she’d accept it. She nodded in agreement. After all, Ji Yu understood that Mu Li wasn’t the type to provoke others. If she ever took action, it would only be because someone had pushed her beyond endurance.
When Mu Li returned to the Ji family, Mu Anming also went back to the Mu household. The news he brought—that Mu Li had entered the First Military Academy and even joined the Command Department, a field he had never dared to imagine—sent shockwaves through the Mu family’s peaceful life.
“What?! Mom, did you hear that? Mu Li actually got into the First Military Academy! And you insisted on sending me to an Omega-only school. How am I supposed to compete with her now?” Mu Anlan exclaimed, not once considering whether her academic scores were even close to the admission threshold of the First Military Academy.
In Mu Anlan’s mind, she had no interest in joining the military department or political circles, nor did she dare to entertain such ambitions. Yet she envied Mu Li for being able to interact daily with the most promising Alphas of the Federation. Like other Omegas at the First Military Academy, she attended university solely to find a higher-status, more elite partner. And now Mu Li had even entered the prestigious Command Department—how could she possibly accept this?
The Mu family had always treated her as the sole young lady, showering her with attention as she grew up. Her Mental Strength was A-grade—not the highest, but S-grade Omegas were exceedingly rare in the Federation. With the Mu family’s status and her own reputation for humility and beauty, she had always been the center of attention at social gatherings.
Xu Li also began to panic. They had assumed that since Ji Yu had that mysterious Omega, she would no longer support Mu Li, leaving Mu Li to suffer in hardship. But reality had slapped them hard—Mu Li was not only thriving in the Ji household but also shining brilliantly at the First Military Academy.
Mu Anming added, “How could a B-grade Omega like her get into the best program? The Ji family must be pulling strings behind the scenes. I have to expose her, or once she graduates, she’ll trample all over us.”
Xu Li worried, “But when we were at the Ji residence, to help you repay your debts, we transferred all of Mu Li’s identification documents to them and promised not to interfere anymore.”
Mu Anlan interjected, “Mom, leave this to me. We can’t expose her openly, but there’s nothing stopping us from manipulating public opinion behind the scenes. With so many people on StarNet, who can trace anything back to us?”
Xu Li hesitated, but Mu Anlan pressed on, “What are you waiting for? Do you want Mu Li to shine so brightly that everyone knows the Mu family has such an outstanding daughter? Think about how you struggled just to get my brother recognized by the Mu family. Do you want me and my brother to live in shame?”
The mention of her past—how she had groveled and flattered just to remain a mistress, while Mu Li’s mother had effortlessly gained everything Xu Li desired simply because of her noble birth—struck a nerve. If not for the fact that Mu Anming was born an Alpha, none of this would have happened, and Mu Anlan wouldn’t even exist.
Now, after so much effort, the Mu family was finally under her control, and everything would eventually belong to Mu Anming. The outside world praised her for having a capable Alpha son and a beautiful Omega daughter. She refused to let her children be overshadowed by Mu Li, just as she had been in the past. So she silently acquiesced to Mu Anlan’s plan.
Soon, a post exploded on StarNet, quickly climbing the trending charts as its popularity soared.
Ji Residence
The butler knocked on the door and quickly pushed it open upon hearing the command “Enter,” then approached Ji Yu. “Miss, have you seen the news on StarNet? Miss Mu seems to be targeted.”
Ji Yu took out her Optical Brain and began browsing. The hottest headline was prominently displayed on the trending list: “Exposing the Inside Story of First Military Academy: Can Money and Power Let You Do Whatever You Want?”
