Scared Every Night, Becoming The Target Of A Creepy Psycho - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: The Bed That Emits Cold
(Some scenes are slightly creepy, but not too intense. The gong is not human and is extremely twisted—not your average level of twisted, but super ultra mega twisted. The story is a mix of heavy taste, no moral compass, obsessive yandere, dark, damp, and insane behavior. If you’re sensitive, proceed with caution… after all, the gong isn’t human.)
Cold. So cold.
Ever since arriving at this new academy, Chen Sheng hadn’t been able to sleep well at night.
It wasn’t even winter, yet he was sleeping under a thick, winter-grade comforter.
The dorm was meant for two people, but since enrollment, he had been the only one living in it.
According to the dorm assignment list, he was supposed to be sharing the room with a senior named Gu Zhen, but apparently, Gu Zhen didn’t stay in the academy dorms.
Chen Sheng couldn’t help but sigh—must be nice to have money.
But honestly, the dorm wasn’t bad at all. The only problem was this bed—it was especially cold.
Not the kind of cold that fills an entire room. During the daytime, the dorm temperature was perfectly normal.
But at night, only when he lay on the bed, did it become cold—a bone-chilling, icy cold.
Every time he lay on it, it felt like he was lying in an ice cellar or a morgue.
At this moment, overwhelmed by the cold, Chen Sheng climbed out of bed.
He turned on the dorm light. Under the dim yellow glow, he checked the bed again.
Chen Sheng had checked this bed more than once but never found anything unusual.
Eventually, he had just ordered a thick winter comforter online, the one currently on the bed.
Still, it was cold.
The dorm only had two beds. He had already tried switching between them.
No matter which bed he slept in, the result was the same.
Because of this nighttime chill, he hadn’t had a good night’s sleep since school started.
Once again, he lifted the bedsheet and checked the bed frame and underneath.
Still, nothing.
Could the bed itself be emitting this cold? But it was just a wooden bed frame—how could it emit cold?
During the day, Chen Sheng had even asked some classmates about it.
Everyone said the same thing: the beds were standard-issue wooden beds ordered by the academy.
So, if all the beds were the same, why was he the only one experiencing this bone-piercing chill?
Worse yet, dorm rooms were already assigned and not allowed to be changed.
Chen Sheng could only endure. He didn’t have extra money to rent a place off-campus.
After inspecting the bed, he sighed and sat back down on it.
The moment his butt touched the mattress, a wave of icy cold washed over him. He shivered.
Resigned, he sat at the edge of the bed, took out his phone, and scrolled through it until morning.
The next day in class, Chen Sheng couldn’t stop yawning.
Since starting school, he had made a good friend, Zhang Jun, though they weren’t in the same dorm or even the same major. Still, they clicked and exchanged contact info.
As usual, Chen Sheng messaged Zhang Jun and headed to class.
After class ended, he met up with Zhang Jun in the cafeteria.
Once they got their food, they found a random seat and sat down.
Zhang Jun noticed the dark circles under Chen Sheng’s eyes, almost like a panda’s, and couldn’t help but comment, “You’re still not sleeping well because of that bed? Why don’t you just order a new one online?”
Chen Sheng wanted to, but money was tight. “Forget it, it’s fine.”
Although they hadn’t known each other long, Zhang Jun was aware of Chen Sheng’s family situation.
He felt a little guilty for casually suggesting buying a new bed. Quickly, he said,
“You can’t just let this continue. Not sleeping well seriously affects your health. Tell you what, let’s switch beds. They’re all academy beds anyway. Even if you buy one, the school might not allow it. So just take mine.”
“But…” Chen Sheng hesitated. That bed was so cold—he couldn’t bear letting his friend suffer.
Zhang Jun saw through his concerns and added, “C’mon, it’s no big deal. I sleep like a rock. Honestly, I’m curious to see what kind of bed gets that cold. Hey, maybe by summer, I won’t even need the AC—that’d be a win-win.”
“Alright, it’s settled. After afternoon classes, I’ll get my dormmates to help move the bed. Once we switch, you’ll finally get a good night’s sleep.”
Chen Sheng was touched. “Thank you, Zhang Jun.”
Zhang Jun waved him off. “We’re friends, right? Don’t thank me. Now hurry up and eat.”
After their meal, they each went back to class.
All afternoon, Chen Sheng was distracted.
He still felt uneasy about letting Zhang Jun take that bed. Not because he didn’t want to give it up, but because he was worried Zhang Jun wouldn’t be able to sleep well either.
Plus, what if the bed switch didn’t help? After all, he had tried both beds in his dorm already, and they were both cold.
In the end, Chen Sheng decided to let Zhang Jun try it first. If it turned out too cold, they could always switch back.
He had already endured it this long. Eventually, he’d get used to it.
After class, Zhang Jun was already waiting at the door.
He grabbed Chen Sheng’s arm and said, “Let’s go! I already told my dormmates. The sooner we get this done, the sooner you can sleep well.”
“Alright.”
They rushed back to the dorm.
Zhang Jun’s dormmates were already waiting outside. Three or four tall guys. The academy beds weren’t exactly light, but they weren’t super heavy either.
Each grabbed a corner, and together they carried the bed out.
Chen Sheng had already packed up his bedding and moved it to the other bed.
About ten minutes later, the group returned with another bed. While it looked no different from the previous one, Chen Sheng knew his old bed was now in Zhang Jun’s dorm.
As they were about to leave, Chen Sheng quickly said, “Um… thank you guys so much. Let me treat you all to a meal.”
The guys paused, about to say something.
But Zhang Jun walked in at that moment and overheard. He immediately said, “You don’t need to. I asked them. If anyone’s buying food, it should be me.”
Before Chen Sheng could respond, Zhang Jun added, “Later, I’ll treat you guys off-campus.”
The others cheered. “Nice, Zhang Jun! We’ll head back. Just message us the time and place.”
“Will do.”
After they left, Zhang Jun turned to Chen Sheng and quickly changed the subject, “I tried your bed just now. Didn’t feel any chill. Maybe you just have a cold constitution? Try layering more blankets.”
Chen Sheng had once thought the same.
But later, he realized that wasn’t the case. His hands and feet were warm, and he was using a thick winter comforter.
He pointed to it as he said, “I’ve already switched to a winter blanket. Still, it’s cold—bone-chilling cold. It’s not something you can explain. And it only happens at night. Or more precisely, in the middle of the night. That’s when the bed turns icy.”
Zhang Jun stared at the thick blanket. That was definitely a proper winter one. Even if someone were naturally cold, this would be more than enough.
And if Chen Sheng wasn’t physically cold, then…
“You said the bed only gets cold in the middle of the night? That sounds kinda creepy. What if something’s under the bed at night?”
Saying it out loud actually gave Zhang Jun a bit of a scare himself.
Chen Sheng shook his head. “I checked so many times. I lifted the sheet, inspected the bed board, and even checked underneath. Nothing. It’s like the bed just… radiates cold on its own.”
