Chapter 10 – The Wardrobe Crack
After arriving in class, Chen Sheng no longer glanced suspiciously around at his classmates.
Because now he was certain—whoever, or whatever, had been stalking and watching him wasn’t someone from the class. Not from the campus either.
It was indeed inside the school—but there was a very high chance it wasn’t human.
If “he” didn’t want to be seen, then Chen Sheng would never be able to see him.
A chilling cold spread through Chen Sheng’s entire body, as if he had been plunged into an ice cellar.
And so, with his mind disturbed, he made it through the rest of the class.
At noon, he went to the cafeteria as usual.
Zhang Jun arrived especially early this time. The two of them ate in silence.
Compared to before, when they would discuss ways to catch the stalker, now they said nothing.
Because this situation had no solution. The more they talked, the scarier it felt.
After lunch and afternoon classes, Chen Sheng followed Zhang Jun back to his dorm.
Zhang Jun looked at Chen Sheng and hesitated. “Why don’t you just crash with me tonight?”
Chen Sheng nodded. He didn’t want to sleep in that other dorm anymore.
He didn’t want to hear those terrifying noises from inside the wall again.
After they took turns showering,
Chen Sheng and Zhang Jun squeezed into one bed.
Night slowly fell.
Their dorm was just as lively as the day before.
But once the lights were turned off—
Chen Sheng lay in bed, wide awake. Even with Zhang Jun beside him, even in a different room, he couldn’t fall asleep.
Truth be told—he was waiting.
Waiting for that thing to message him again.
After lying there for quite a while, just as he was about to speak to Zhang Jun, he noticed something strange—
Zhang Jun had gone completely quiet.
Puzzled, Chen Sheng turned to look—and saw that Zhang Jun had already fallen asleep.
Chen Sheng felt uneasy. It wasn’t even that late yet.
Then he realized: at some point, the entire dorm had fallen into dead silence.
Across the room, phones left charging beside computers still emitted a faint glow.
As Chen Sheng looked away—
He suddenly heard a very faint creak.
Startled, he looked toward the source of the sound.
The wardrobe, which had been fully closed, now somehow had a thin crack open.
Inside, it was pitch-black.
It looked like something had pushed it open from within.
It was like something was peering at him through that gap.
A jolt of fear ran through Chen Sheng’s body.
He instinctively pushed closer to Zhang Jun, trying to wake him.
But the moment he touched Zhang Jun—he felt that familiar, bone-chilling cold.
Chen Sheng froze and slowly turned his head. Under the faint glow of the charging light—
He saw “Zhang Jun” staring wide-eyed, already awake.
“His” eyes were open unnaturally wide. In the dim light, “his” face looked terrifyingly pale.
And “his” mouth—
Had stretched all the way to the ears in a grotesque grin.
Still wearing that wide, eerie smile, “he” let out a chilling voice from deep in the throat:
“Chen Sheng, why won’t you wear the clothes I gave you? Why? Why? Why?”
As “he” spoke, “his” mouth opened wider and wider—until Chen Sheng could see all of “Zhang Jun’s” internal organs through the gaping maw.
“Ahhhh!”
Chen Sheng screamed, horrified beyond belief.
And then—
Zhang Jun was looking at him with concern.
The other roommates were gathering around, alarmed.
“What happened?” Liu Yang asked.
Instinctively, Chen Sheng reached for his forehead—drenched in cold sweat.
Had he been dreaming?
Then Zhang Jun spoke up, “Chen Sheng, you scared the hell out of me. You were quiet, so I thought you fell asleep. But then your face looked really off—sweating like crazy. I kept calling you, but you wouldn’t wake up.”
“Could it be…” Zhang Jun looked pale.
Wang Gang, Shen Fei, and Xu Qing all chimed in worriedly:
“Should we take you to the hospital, Chen Sheng? You look awful.”
“N-No… I’m fine.”
Chen Sheng sat up and instinctively looked toward the wardrobe.
It was open—just a slight crack.
Exactly like what he had just seen in the dream.
His heart seized with fear, and he pointed at the wardrobe.
“Was it always open like that?”
Everyone followed his gaze.
Wang Gang walked over. “Maybe there’s too many clothes inside. It won’t close properly.”
He opened the wardrobe.
Chen Sheng’s heart dropped when he saw the clothes—
They were the exact same ones that “he” had left for him in the other dorm.
Terrified, Chen Sheng backed away. Then he heard Zhang Jun say beside him:
“I picked those clothes out for you. Why didn’t you wear them?”
Chen Sheng turned, frightened.
But Zhang Jun looked normal. No eerie grin.
The other roommates chimed in too:
“Yeah, Chen Sheng. We picked them out for you. You should at least wear them. Don’t waste our kindness.”
Then Chen Sheng saw Wang Gang take the clothes from the wardrobe.
Holding them up, Wang Gang walked toward him.
“Here, I brought them for you. Come on, put them on.”
“N-No, that’s okay. I just took a shower. I already have clothes.”
Chen Sheng moved to put on his shoes—to get out of there.
Everything in the dorm felt deeply wrong.
Something wasn’t right—not even Zhang Jun.
But before he could move, Zhang Jun grabbed him tightly.
And then the other roommates began to crowd around him.
All of them said in unison:
“Put them on. Put them on. Put them on. Why won’t you wear them? Why? Why? Put them on. Put them on!”
As they spoke, Chen Sheng watched in horror as they reached toward him with the clothes.
Multiple hands came at him at once.
His heart raced wildly. The room spun.
He blacked out on the spot.
…
When he came to, his first instinct was to run.
But then he heard a familiar voice beside him:
“Why are you up so early? By the way… did anything happen last night?”
Chen Sheng turned his head, shaking. Zhang Jun was rubbing his eyes.
The other roommates were waking up too.
Chen Sheng opened his mouth, unsure what to say—
But then Zhang Jun suddenly backed away.
“W-Why are you wearing the clothes that thing gave you?!”
Chen Sheng looked down.
He was wearing the very clothes from that wardrobe.
Looking over, he saw the wardrobe was still open just a crack.
Once…
Twice…
Three times now.
Terror overwhelmed him. He scrambled off the bed, completely breaking down.
He stared at Zhang Jun and the others—
And now he couldn’t tell anymore:
Was this real, or not?
Zhang Jun, seeing Chen Sheng’s expression, quickly got out of bed too.
“Chen Sheng, calm down! What’s going on? What happened?”
Chen Sheng looked at him, lips trembling, voice shaking.
“G-Give me your hand for a second…”
Zhang Jun, confused, extended his hand.
Chen Sheng quickly touched it—it was warm.
Finally, some relief.
Without looking back, he pointed at the wardrobe. “Was… the wardrobe door always like that?”
“Yeah,” Zhang Jun replied, confused. “It’s always been like that.”
He walked over to it. Chen Sheng, trembling, backed away.
But when the door opened—
Nothing strange appeared.
Just unfamiliar clothes.
Zhang Jun shoved them inside and closed the wardrobe again.
“It’s too full. I’m too lazy to organize it. That’s why it never fully closes.”
Chen Sheng saw that the clothes were indeed different and let out a long sigh.
The wardrobe door, after being closed, still didn’t shut all the way—just like before.
With his emotions gradually calming, Chen Sheng finally asked,
“Last night… what exactly…”
But even he didn’t know how to say it anymore.
