Chapter 11 – “Zhang Jun’s” Resentment
“What happened to me last night?”
Zhang Jun looked puzzled and said, “Last night? After I played some games, I just went to sleep. But you—you were zoning out the whole time. I called you a few times, but you didn’t respond, so I figured you were just tired and left you alone.”
Chen Sheng looked at him in disbelief.
He had been zoning out for a while last night… but what happened afterward—he didn’t want to think about it. Still, he had to speak up.
So, he told Zhang Jun everything that had happened the night before.
Zhang Jun was still standing by the wardrobe. As he listened to Chen Sheng’s story,
He quickly backed away from it, hugging his arms tightly, suddenly feeling that the entire dorm had turned cold and eerie.
“Holy crap, that’s terrifying. You’re saying last night, I—and Wang Gang and the others—we forced you to wear those clothes that thing gave you? That doesn’t make sense. Those clothes were in your dorm’s wardrobe. Why would they suddenly show up in our dorm’s wardrobe? Unless… that thing possessed us last night because you didn’t wear what it gave you?”
As Zhang Jun finished, goosebumps rose all over his skin.
At this point, he couldn’t tell whether it was just creepy or outright insane.
Hearing what Zhang Jun said, Chen Sheng also felt his heart sink. An icy chill spread through him, making his entire body go cold.
Half from the clothes he was still wearing.
Half from what he had experienced the night before.
He no longer knew whether it had been real—or a nightmare.
But one thing was certain:
He was wearing the clothes right now.
Meanwhile, the other roommates had already finished getting ready and left the dorm.
Chen Sheng quickly went to wash up too.
He and Zhang Jun had just finished freshening up and were about to leave the room—
When suddenly, creeeeeak—
A soft sound echoed behind them.
Chen Sheng couldn’t help but turn back—
And saw that same not-fully-closed wardrobe door.
This time, it had swung open.
And from inside, a deathly pale hand emerged—
So white it was almost translucent. The veins clearly visible beneath the skin.
It waved at him.
Chen Sheng immediately shuddered in fear, chilled to the bone by the terrifying sight.
But when Zhang Jun’s confused voice called out to him—
Chen Sheng looked again.
The wardrobe hadn’t moved.
Still cracked open just a little.
The hand was gone—like an illusion that had never been there.
Once, Chen Sheng might’ve convinced himself it was just a hallucination.
But not anymore.
He quickly slammed the door shut—BANG!—startling Zhang Jun.
“W-What was that for?!”
Chen Sheng, pale as a ghost, shook his head. “Nothing… let’s go to class.”
—
Later, once they got to the classroom—
Chen Sheng found he didn’t even dare check his phone anymore.
But thankfully, the whole day passed without a single new message.
When they returned to the dorm together that evening,
Chen Sheng still couldn’t shake the feeling—
No matter where he went, that thing was watching him.
Like a heavy, sticky gaze, clinging to him everywhere he went.
He was constantly on edge.
After showering, he immediately tore off the eerie clothes.
Only after changing into the ones Zhang Jun had given him did he feel remotely better.
But even just looking at the discarded clothes lying on the side…
Knowing they were from some non-human thing…
Made his scalp tingle.
After stepping out of the bathroom, Chen Sheng decided to go back to sleeping on the top bunk.
At least that way, he wouldn’t have to face the wardrobe directly.
It had left a deep scar in his mind.
Every time he looked at that wardrobe, he remembered the terrifying scenes from the night before.
And that pale, horrifying hand from that morning.
Zhang Jun saw Chen Sheng’s state and, though worried, there wasn’t much he could do.
If it were just a person harassing Chen Sheng, maybe he could help.
But this?
All he could do was silently watch as Chen Sheng climbed into bed.
Once in bed, Chen Sheng shifted away from the wall.
But he didn’t dare lie too close to the edge either—he still had a fear of heights.
…
Not long after—
The dorm lights were turned off, and the room plunged into darkness. Only a faint bit of light remained.
Chen Sheng didn’t dare check his phone.
He was waiting—hoping the thing wouldn’t contact him again.
But truth be told, deep down, he was terrified.
He didn’t want to communicate with it ever again.
Lying stiffly in bed, Chen Sheng was utterly exhausted.
Eventually, he couldn’t fight sleep anymore and drifted off.
—
Soon after Chen Sheng fell asleep—
The boys playing games in the dorm—Wang Gang and the others—suddenly shivered.
Wang Gang whispered, “Why’s it suddenly so cold?”
Next to him sat Liu Yang, and beside Liu Yang was Zhang Jun.
Liu Yang was shivering even more.
He felt like the temperature had plummeted by ten degrees in an instant.
Wrapping himself tightly in his blanket, Liu Yang’s teeth chattered as he replied,
“Y-Yeah… it’s freezing. What’s going on? Did someone leave the window open?”
He turned to Zhang Jun, who was closest to the window.
“Zhang Jun, you asleep? Check the window—did we close it? I’m freezing to death here.”
He waited for Zhang Jun’s reply—but none came.
Liu Yang frowned.
Had Zhang Jun already fallen asleep? That early?
Just as he was about to get up and check the window himself—
The icy cold vanished—instantly, like it had never been there.
Liu Yang was completely confused.
He muttered under his breath and lay back down.
But on the bed beside him—
Zhang Jun lay wide-eyed, frozen in place.
He couldn’t move.
From where he lay, he could clearly see the wardrobe on the opposite side of the room—
Now completely open.
Inside was a twisted figure.
A freezing, sinister gaze was locked onto him.
Though it didn’t speak with its mouth—
Zhang Jun heard it speak:
“Stay away from my Chen Sheng… or else…”
The very next second—
That twisted thing appeared at his bedside, staring at him with malicious eyes.
Zhang Jun couldn’t make a sound.
He couldn’t move.
The creature leaned closer and closer, repeating the same chilling words again and again:
I’ll kill you.
Kill you.
Kill you.
Kill you.
Eat you.
Peel off your skin…
—
When Chen Sheng woke up, he couldn’t believe it.
He had somehow slept through the entire night.
Nothing had happened.
Then he checked the time—
Crap. He’d overslept.
He scrambled down from the bunk—
But something was strange.
No one else was there.
Where was Zhang Jun?
Chen Sheng frowned. Did Zhang Jun leave without him?
That didn’t sound right.
Maybe Zhang Jun couldn’t wake him and decided not to bother?
With that thought, Chen Sheng quickly got ready and headed to the bathroom.
The dorm was completely empty.
He stood before the mirror, washing up as usual.
After brushing his teeth, he applied his facial cleanser and started washing his face.
As the foam covered his face, he looked up—
And saw Zhang Jun’s face in the mirror.
But that wasn’t all.
Zhang Jun’s entire body was skinless—
Bloody, grotesque, a mangled mess of raw tissue.
Only his head remained intact.
He stared at Chen Sheng—
Then slammed his face against the mirror.
His facial features squished and distorted, pressed grotesquely against the glass.
A voice filled with hate echoed throughout the bathroom:
“It’s all your fault, Chen Sheng.
You did this to me.
Why didn’t you listen?
Why?!”
