Scared Every Night, Becoming The Target Of A Creepy Psycho - Chapter 16
Chapter 16 – I’m Here
Chen Sheng was now face-to-face with “Senior,” who had the senior’s body, but inside was that thing. His forehead was covered in cold sweat, and even swallowing felt impossible. He was so terrified he nearly forgot to breathe.
“You… you…”
Chen Sheng stammered for a long time, his teeth chattering, unable to get out a full sentence. Meanwhile, “Senior” leaned in and rubbed against his neck—
It felt like a block of ice being pressed against his skin.
“Chen Sheng, wouldn’t it be nice if we could just be together like this? From now on, I’ll use Senior’s body and we can be stuck together all the time.”
“Get out!”
Chen Sheng screamed, his voice filled with desperation.
In the next instant, “Senior” placed his hand over his own chest, near his heart, and a twisted, sick smile slowly spread across his lips.
“Chen Sheng,” he sighed, “I really do like you… but you’re so heartless. Just like that, you’re leaving the dorm and abandoning me?”
“Since that’s how you feel… then I have to vent my emotions somehow. I’ll start with that Gu Zhen.”
“You… what are you trying to do?”
“Don’t be scared. I just want to pull his heart out and take a look… to see if there’s any place in it for you.”
“No, don’t!”
Chen Sheng watched in horror as that thing, controlling his senior’s body, reached for his heart.
Its fingernails sharpened into claws in an instant—
More accurately, the thing inside the senior’s body extended sharp, deadly talons, slowly aiming them toward his heart…
“No, I’m not leaving! Just let him go, I won’t leave!”
Chen Sheng grabbed “Senior’s” arm with all his strength.
The entity inside “Senior” immediately withdrew its claws upon hearing this. The look on “Senior’s” face turned gleeful, almost ecstatic.
“Really? You’ll stay?”
“Yes, just please let him go.”
Chen Sheng sobbed as he spoke.
He knew it—he couldn’t escape this terrifying thing.
The moment he said those words, the chilling air instantly dissipated, and the normal-looking senior was still lying next to him under the same blanket.
Senior glanced at him, then at the blanket above them.
Panicked, he quickly threw it off.
And once it was off, Chen Sheng’s ghastly pale face, swollen red eyes from crying, and sweat-matted hair—all signs of his emotional breakdown—were laid bare in front of him.
“Junior, you… what happened? I…”
Senior rubbed his head anxiously, completely confused and distressed.
“Junior, I’m sorry. I don’t remember anything. You’d better pack your things and move out. I need to go to the hospital and get checked.”
Chen Sheng wiped away his tears and got out of bed.
“Senior, I… I’m not planning to move anymore. I’ll stay in the dorm.”
Senior looked at him in disbelief. “Why the sudden change? Didn’t you say you had to work part-time? No, you have to move. I don’t feel normal anymore. It’s already happened twice. If you keep staying with me, it’ll be dangerous.”
“It’s fine, Senior. Look, I’m still okay. I’ll go talk to the dorm manager first.”
Chen Sheng washed his face in the bathroom and left the dorm.
When he reached the dorm supervisor’s office, the supervisor was at the computer, and a stranger stood nearby.
The dorm supervisor looked up in surprise. “You again?”
“I… Supervisor, I’ve changed my mind. I’m not moving anymore.”
“What?!”
The dorm supervisor stood up. “First you said you were moving, now you say you’re not. I asked you multiple times back then.”
Sigh. The supervisor let out a long breath, clearly annoyed. “Well, it’s too late now. I’ve already arranged someone new to take your spot.”
“But…”
Chen Sheng lowered his head. This was his fault. But he couldn’t leave—Gu Zhen would be in danger, might even die.
“I… Supervisor, something urgent came up. Is there any way…”
The supervisor gave him a sharp look, then typed rapidly on the keyboard.
After a while, he spoke again. “Room 303 still has a free bed. You’ll stay there for now.”
Chen Sheng looked up in disbelief.
303… wasn’t that Zhang Jun’s room?
No. That wouldn’t work. He wanted to protest, but the supervisor’s expression made it clear there was no use arguing. He could only return to the dorm.
When he got back, Senior was sitting on the bed, looking troubled.
Seeing Chen Sheng return, he quickly asked, “Did you talk to the supervisor?”
Chen Sheng nodded, then shook his head, and quietly began packing.
“I… The supervisor already assigned someone new. I’ll move to 303.”
At least this would keep Senior safe.
But… Zhang Jun and the others…
Now, no matter where he went, he felt like a burden—someone who’d only bring trouble and danger.
While he packed in silence, Senior said, “Do you want to stay here? Aren’t you afraid of me? If you do, when the new guy comes, I’ll try to talk to him.”
Chen Sheng paused.
“Really, Senior? I’m not afraid of you. This was never your fault.”
“Let’s try. If he agrees, great. If not, we can’t force it.”
Just as he finished speaking, footsteps sounded in the hallway.
Then a new face appeared at the door—the same boy Chen Sheng had seen earlier with the dorm supervisor.
So this was the newly assigned student.
Upon entering and seeing Gu Zhen, the boy lit up and rushed over. “Senior Gu Zhen! I can’t believe I actually got assigned to the same dorm as you! I’m so excited!”
Hearing that, Chen Sheng’s heart sank.
Clearly, this guy admired Senior just like he did.
He went back to packing.
Then he heard Gu Zhen say to the boy, “Sorry, but would you mind switching with Junior Chen Sheng? He’d like to stay in the dorm.”
Chen Sheng’s heart warmed upon hearing Senior speak up for him.
But the boy turned to him, walked over, and said unpleasantly, “Why should I? Senior Gu Zhen, I finally got assigned here with you. He’s the one who said he wanted to move. Now he wants to come back? What the hell? I saw him at the dorm office, even the supervisor was speechless.”
The boy stared straight at him. “Hey, Chen Sheng, right? I’m not switching. I don’t care if you got Senior to speak up. You’re the one who left. I’ve waited a long time for this room.”
Chen Sheng felt a wave of bitterness flood his chest.
Maybe it was better this way—at least that thing wouldn’t go after Senior again.
As for Zhang Jun’s room, he wasn’t planning to go there either. He didn’t want to drag them into this.
Later tonight, he’d just crash in a classroom. As long as he was still on campus, that thing might leave everyone else alone.
Chen Sheng finished packing and didn’t respond to the new guy. He turned to Gu Zhen and said, “Thank you, Senior. I’m leaving now.”
Gu Zhen opened his mouth as if to say something but finally just said, “Take care, Junior.”
Chen Sheng nodded, grabbed his bag, and left.
Luckily, he didn’t have much stuff. He carried it outside and found a place to sit.
He stayed there until nightfall.
Then, he headed toward a classroom.
On the way, he got a message from Zhang Jun.
Zhang Jun: Chen Sheng, I heard the new guy in our dorm is you. I checked with the supervisor. Where are you? Why haven’t you come?
Chen Sheng didn’t reply until he reached the classroom.
Chen Sheng: It’s fine. I’m not going. I’ll just crash in a classroom tonight.
Zhang Jun: No way. You can’t sleep in a classroom—it’s uncomfortable. I’m coming to get you.
Chen Sheng: No, don’t come. I don’t want to drag you into this. I’m scared that thing will…
Zhang Jun: Still can’t let you sleep there. You come here. I won’t talk to you or get near you if that helps. We’ll just text.
Looking at that message, and then the darkness outside the classroom, Chen Sheng felt a wave of warmth.
Zhang Jun: Hurry up. I’m already downstairs waiting for you.
Startled, Chen Sheng quickly texted back.
Chen Sheng: Don’t come. Go back! I’m coming now!
Zhang Jun: Okay, I’ll wait at the dorm entrance.
Chen Sheng sighed and grabbed his bag, heading toward the dorm.
Sure enough, when he arrived, Zhang Jun was waiting downstairs.
Zhang Jun opened his mouth to speak, but Chen Sheng stopped him with a gesture.
They walked apart from each other, silently.
When they reached Zhang Jun’s dorm, Chen Sheng dropped his bag, didn’t speak to anyone, took a quick shower, and went straight to bed.
He just prayed nothing would happen that night.
…
At that moment—
Lin Su was chattering away like a sparrow next to Senior Gu Zhen.
Ever since Chen Sheng left, Senior Gu Zhen had been noticeably distant—still replying, but acting strangely cold.
Lin Su admired him greatly, almost idolized him.
That’s why he kept talking.
Then Gu Zhen finally said, “It’s getting late. You should take a shower and rest. We have class tomorrow.”
Lin Su paused and checked the time. It was indeed late.
“Alright, I’ll go shower now, Senior.”
He took his clothes and headed into the bathroom.
After his shower, Lin Su came out shivering slightly from the cold. He noticed Gu Zhen had gone into the bathroom, so he returned to bed and idly scrolled on his phone.
He waited for the bathroom door to open.
When it did, he turned to speak to Senior—only to see he had already gone to bed.
The dorm lights were then turned off.
“Sleep well…”
It was Senior’s voice.
Lin Su stayed in bed.
He liked to stay up late, usually not sleeping until 2 or 3 a.m.
The dorm was completely silent now. He wore his headphones.
Around 1 a.m., he suddenly received a friend request from an unknown user.
He accepted it, confused.
Lin Su: Who are you? Got the wrong person, maybe?
The account had no name, no profile picture—just a black void.
[Anonymous User]: No mistake. I’m looking for you.
Lin Su: Weirdo. What do you want? Who are you? Are you from our school? You’re not Chen Sheng, are you? Don’t even think about it. Just because I wouldn’t let you stay doesn’t mean you can prank me. It was your own fault. You wanted to move. Now this? Disgusting.
[Anonymous User]: Do you want to know where I am? Want to see me?
Annoyed, Lin Su ignored the creepy tone.
He was convinced it was Chen Sheng being petty.
Lin Su: Of course I’m not scared. I know it’s you, Chen Sheng. If you’ve got the guts, come here right now.
[Anonymous User]: Heehee… Then I’m coming.
Lin Su scoffed. What a lunatic.
But then, an icy chill suddenly crept over him. He started trembling.
He turned on his phone’s flashlight and scanned the room.
Across from him, Gu Zhen was still sleeping.
He looked all around—especially at the door. Nothing. Peaceful.
He was leaning over, looking.
Just as he was about to pull back, another message came through.
[Anonymous User]: Look down. I’m already here.
Lin Su, confused, instinctively looked down—and instantly widened his eyes in horror.
Right under his bed, a twisted, pale face was staring straight up at him.
Their faces were only millimeters apart.
Its mouth stretched unnaturally wide, reaching to its ears as it whispered:
“I’m here.”
