Chapter 2: A Strange Friend
“Damn,” Zhang Jun shivered. “I’ve never heard of a bed that emits cold air. What is it, an ice bed? I’ve never seen one before. I’ll find out for myself tonight when I sleep on it.”
“By the way, since you’re alone in your dorm, why not come have dinner with us tonight? My treat.”
Chen Sheng looked at Zhang Jun and said, “How about I treat? Even though you were the one who called your friends to help, it was for my sake. You already switched beds with me, and now you’re treating them to dinner—I…”
“Enough, I knew you’d say that.” Zhang Jun patted him on the shoulder. “I told you, we’re friends. No need to be polite. I’ve already decided. I’m treating. So, are you coming or not? Come on, join us.”
“…Alright.” Chen Sheng wasn’t good at refusing people, especially not his friend Zhang Jun, so he eventually agreed.
Seeing that he had agreed, Zhang Jun looked around the dorm. “I’m so jealous. Our dorms are packed with several people per room, but yours only has two. And your roommate is an upperclassman who never comes back to stay. You basically get this whole room to yourself. Must be nice.”
Chen Sheng followed Zhang Jun’s gaze and looked around the room.
It was true—having such a large space all to himself was quite nice. If it weren’t for the weird bed, this place would be perfect.
After chatting for a bit longer, Zhang Jun got up to leave.
“I’ll message you when it’s time. Just wait for me at the school gate.”
“Okay.”
As soon as Zhang Jun left the dorm, Chen Sheng turned and began putting the bedding back on his new bed.
Hopefully, he’d be able to sleep well tonight.
Later, when the time came, Chen Sheng received a message from Zhang Jun.
He quickly left the dorm.
A short while later, he arrived at the school gate and saw Zhang Jun and his dorm mates already waiting there.
As soon as he arrived, Zhang Jun called out to him, “Chen Sheng! I’ve already booked a ride. Let’s go have hot pot tonight, yeah?”
“I’m good with anything,” Chen Sheng said, keeping his head down.
He still wasn’t used to being around so many people—especially those he wasn’t familiar with.
Soon, the cars arrived.
The group split into two vehicles. Chen Sheng rode with Zhang Jun, while the others took a separate car.
After arriving at the restaurant and sitting down, Zhang Jun started the introductions: “This is my friend I mentioned. Like I said, he’s a bit shy.”
Then he turned to Chen Sheng. “These are my dorm mates. The one wearing glasses next to me is Wang Gang. Next to him is Liu Yang. The two on either side of you are Xu Qing and Shen Fei.”
Chen Sheng listened carefully. After the introductions, he looked at the four and said, “Nice to meet you.”
“Hey, Chen Sheng. That’s a cool name.”
“Yeah, it sounds good,” Xu Qing chimed in. “So Zhang Jun told us your bed was acting up?”
The moment he said it, the other three all turned their eyes on Chen Sheng.
Feeling their gaze, Chen Sheng lowered his head and said, “Yeah. The bed gets extremely cold at night.”
“Damn, that sounds creepy,” Shen Fei said.
Zhang Jun quickly tried to smooth things over. “They’re just curious, don’t worry.”
He turned back to his dorm mates. “Let’s eat first. No need to talk about weird stuff now.”
“Yeah, hot pot time! No more spooky talk.”
With that, the group dug into their meal.
Chen Sheng breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
By the time they returned to campus, it was already late.
Chen Sheng said goodbye to Zhang Jun and went back to his dorm.
When he opened the door, the room was pitch black.
Once he turned on the lights, things felt a bit more normal.
He grabbed his clothes and headed to the bathroom for a shower.
Then he returned to his bed. As soon as he lay down, a feeling of excitement and relief filled him—the cold was gone.
No icy air creeping up from beneath.
He relaxed, sinking into the mattress and quickly fell asleep.
He didn’t know how long he had been asleep when suddenly—
Chen Sheng’s eyes flew open, wide with terror.
He had felt something—a cold, clammy touch against his back.
It was hard to describe, but it felt just like… a human hand.
The icy chill he thought was gone had returned. But this time it was even worse, colder and more sinister than ever before.
Chen Sheng always left the light on when he slept. Now, panicked, he sat up in bed.
Was it a nightmare? Or had it really happened?
Heart pounding, he swallowed hard.
His mind drifted back to what Zhang Jun had said earlier…
He looked at his phone. It was exactly 1:00 AM.
Could there really be something under the bed?
What if…?
Suddenly, Chen Sheng threw off the covers and leaned over the edge of the bed.
Trembling, he peered underneath, countless horror movie scenes flashing through his mind.
He was terrified of seeing something twisted, something grotesque.
But—there was nothing.
Just empty space under the bed.
He slowly sat back down.
What he didn’t know…
If he had tilted his head just a little higher, even a fraction,
he would have seen a twisted, shadowy figure clinging to the underside of the bed,
its eyes fixed intently on him.
But he didn’t see it.
Shivering from head to toe, Chen Sheng curled up again.
Why was it still so cold?
This wasn’t the same bed from before, so it couldn’t be the bed itself.
Maybe… it really wasn’t about the bed at all.
Maybe—something was haunting him.
He sat with his back pressed tightly to the wall, his nerves stretched taut.
Now, the once-spacious dorm room felt more eerie than comforting.
What had started as just a cold bed now felt like a chilling, ghostly presence filling the entire room.
Terrified, Chen Sheng grabbed his phone.
And that’s when he saw it.
A friend request from a stranger.
Timestamp: 1:00 AM.
The profile picture was pure black—completely dark.
And the username?
“I’ve Been Watching You.”
The name alone sent chills down his spine.
And at this hour?
He didn’t want to accept it… but curiosity got the better of him.
How had this person found his account?
The source said: “Searched by username.”
That had never happened before.
How could someone know his exact account?
Maybe it was someone he knew?
Still wondering, Chen Sheng tapped Accept.
A message appeared immediately:
“You and ‘I’ve Been Watching You’ are now friends.”
As he read it, regret set in.
What if it was a mistake? A random person?
He was just about to delete them when a message popped up.
[I’ve Been Watching You]: Hello.
Chen Sheng replied politely:
[Chen Sheng]: Hello. Who are you? Do we know each other?
[I’ve Been Watching You]: Of course I know you. I know you very well.
That reply made Chen Sheng’s heart skip a beat.
Was this someone from the academy?
He barely interacted with anyone.
The profile didn’t seem like a girl’s, but still—he had no clue who it could be.
So he asked directly:
[Chen Sheng]: Are you from our school? What’s your name? Are we in the same major? Why did you add me?
[I’ve Been Watching You]: Chen Sheng, I’m very interested in you.
We’re not just from the same school—I know you intimately.
His hands trembled. He almost dropped his phone.
It was freezing, and now a stranger was messaging him at 1 AM, knowing his name and claiming to know everything about him.
He suspected it might be a prank, but… who would do this?
[Chen Sheng]: Who are you really? I don’t know you. Stop messing with me. All that stuff about knowing me—that’s just made up, right?
Just after he sent that message…
He read the next reply from I’ve Been Watching You,
and this time—he did drop his phone.
[I’ve Been Watching You]: Of course I know you.
You go to class at 8 AM. After class, you eat lunch with that friend Zhang Jun.
You like noodles and fried rice. You’re not picky.
After afternoon classes, you go back to your dorm with Zhang Jun.
Then you take a shower. I’ve watched you shower.
Your skin is so pale—even for a guy, your body’s quite nice.
Your waist is so slim, I could wrap one hand around it.
Every time I watch, I feel something…
After your shower, you wrap yourself in that thick blanket and sink into bed.
I know everything about you, Chen Sheng.
His phone lay on the bed, screen still glowing.
Chen Sheng trembled violently, consumed by a chill that reached into his bones.
Goosebumps rose across his entire body.
Who was this?
Were they… watching him?
That username—“I’ve Been Watching You”—it suddenly made horrific sense.
Then came another message:
[I’ve Been Watching You]: Hehehe. I’ve always been watching you, Chen Sheng.
The way you look when you’re scared—so cute. I just want to kiss you.
