Chapter 35 – The Terrifying Classroom
Chen Sheng lay in bed, staring at the senior sleeping beside him.
Why did everything from last night feel so real?
Unable to help himself, he slowly reached for the pulse on the senior’s neck—it was beating. Then he moved to his wrist—also beating…
It was all real. He even pinched his own thigh, and the pain instantly shot through him.
It hurt—proving that this was real.
The senior had breath, a pulse, a heartbeat, and body warmth. But everything that happened last night? He couldn’t confirm any of it.
Looks like he’d only know for sure after talking to Zhang Jun.
At that moment, Zhang Jun was rushing toward the school. He had waited for a long time, but the thing inside his body never returned.
That could only mean one thing: it had been killed by Gu Zhen—and it was never coming back.
Now that he’d regained his memory, he clearly remembered what that thing had told him: if it didn’t return, he could never approach Chen Sheng again.
But how could he, as Chen Sheng’s friend, stand by and watch him be deceived—spending day and night with something wearing human skin?
Yet what would it accomplish even if he warned Chen Sheng?
Even if they joined forces, they couldn’t possibly stand up to a non-human entity. Even that thing inside him wasn’t strong enough to resist Gu Zhen.
That was what the being had told him before leaving his body—it warned him of the consequences of staying close to Chen Sheng.
Zhang Jun knew it too well: if he got too close, he would lose his life.
What should he do?
On one side was his own life.
On the other, his friend.
Zhang Jun knew—anyone else faced with this decision would choose their life without hesitation. And so would he. No one wants to die.
So… he had to find another way to let Chen Sheng know.
At worst, they could just run away—leave this place, as far as possible.
—
Morning.
Chen Sheng got up early, and as he did, so did the senior.
Gu Zhen looked at him and said, “Shengsheng, did you sleep well last night?”
Chen Sheng’s expression froze for a moment, but he quickly replied, “I slept well. I’m heading out to wash up and get to class, Senior.”
“Then go quickly, Shengsheng.”
Chen Sheng nodded and hurried into the bathroom. He stared at the bandage on his neck in the mirror for a while before finishing up and stepping out.
As he exited, the senior went in to wash up.
Just as Chen Sheng was about to leave the dorm, Gu Zhen suddenly hugged him from behind.
“Shengsheng, remember to think of me.”
Right after he said that, Chen Sheng felt something damp and ticklish on his ear—like something had wrapped around it…
Chen Sheng’s face turned red in an instant. Shocked, he broke free from Gu Zhen’s embrace like a frightened animal and quickly covered his ear.
When he turned, he saw Gu Zhen smiling at him.
“You’re so sensitive, Shengsheng.”
As he spoke, Chen Sheng even caught a glimpse of the senior’s tongue—just a faint, reddish trace.
So that just now…
His heart jumped. His face flushed furiously as he covered his ear and stammered, “I-I’m going to class now, Senior.”
“Go ahead. Don’t forget to think of me.”
“Mm.” Chen Sheng answered absentmindedly and quickly left.
Behind the door, Gu Zhen watched his retreating figure, and his expression suddenly darkened.
It’s time to begin…
—
After hastily leaving the dorm, Chen Sheng calmed himself. He didn’t go looking for Zhang Jun right away.
Because he couldn’t tell whether what happened last night had been a dream—or reality.
Was the thing inside Zhang Jun still there?
Lost in thought, Chen Sheng entered the classroom, where he spotted a conspicuous note on his desk.
Who left this?
He looked around the classroom. Unlike usual, the students weren’t gathered chatting in groups. They all sat silently at their desks, doing their own things.
The room was unusually quiet.
Chen Sheng didn’t think much of it. He picked up the note—But as he read it, his face turned deathly pale.
The handwriting—it was Zhang Jun’s.
It clearly detailed everything that had happened the night before.
So it hadn’t been a dream. It was all real.
The version of the senior he saw last night—that was Gu Zhen’s true form.
All his tests with the heartbeat, breathing, body temperature… how foolish they seemed now.
It was all real. Every bit of it was real.
Chen Sheng couldn’t sit still.
He wanted to leave—leave this place now, take Zhang Jun, and run far away.
But then…
He noticed how eerily quiet the classroom was.
So silent that even a pin dropping could be heard.
And cold.
Bone-chillingly cold.
Thump, thump, thump—
Heartbeats, pounding like drums.
He felt something—no, multiple things—watching him from behind.
Still holding the note, Chen Sheng stiffly turned his head.
Bang!
He knocked into a desk and fell to the ground.
The classroom full of students—somehow, they had all raised their heads.
Expressionless, they stared at him.
As Chen Sheng watched in horror, their necks began to stretch—long and thin—making their heads look even larger, more swollen, and heavier…
Their bodies were hidden behind desks.
All he could see were dozens of elongated heads reaching toward him.
In unison, they spoke:
“Chen Sheng… Chen Sheng…”
“AHHH!”
Chen Sheng let out a scream.
Cold sweat poured down his body like a waterfall. His limbs went numb, and his heart seemed to skip a beat—his face turned even paler than theirs.
He scrambled up from the ground on hands and knees and fled toward the door, stumbling and staggering.
What was happening?!
Could it be that no one in this school was human… not just the senior?
Or was it… all just a hallucination?
Desperately, he pinched his thigh again.
His trembling hand wasn’t strong enough to cause much pain—
But the sensation was real enough to tell him: this was real.
Still, he refused to believe his own eyes.
He had to be hallucinating—he had to be.
He ran for some distance before daring to look back—And when he did, his vision went black. He nearly fainted on the spot. He bit his tongue out of desperation, and the metallic taste of bl00d filled his mouth.
But he couldn’t escape what he saw:
Just behind him, at the classroom door—twisted necks tangled together like braided ropes, dozens of heads overlapping at the threshold, all facing him.
Every face wore a grin sliced to the ears—like their mouths had been slashed open.
Their eyes were all white.
Staring directly at him.
“Chen Sheng… where are you going, Chen Sheng…”
Chen Sheng forced himself to keep going.
He watched in horror as the heads shot toward him, lunging from the classroom.
Without looking back again, he bolted down the stairs.
He ran in panic—so fast and wild—That he missed a step and tumbled down the stairs.
That moment of weightlessness and the sharp pain as his head hit the ground—Oddly, it made him feel…Relieved.
His consciousness faded along with the fall.
—
After Chen Sheng passed out, the hallway filled with students.
“Oh my god! Did he fall from upstairs?!”
“There’s so much bl00d—quick, call an ambulance!”
His classmates also rushed to the scene.
They had seen the wild, terrified look in Chen Sheng’s eyes just before he ran. No matter what they said, he had bolted from the room as if he’d seen a ghost.
Now…As everyone buzzed with concern and made phone calls—A tall figure pushed through the crowd.
His handsome face instantly drew everyone’s attention.
“It’s Senior Gu Zhen!”
Someone in the crowd recognized him.
And the moment the words were spoken, Gu Zhen was already lifting Chen Sheng into his arms.
“I’ll take him to the hospital.”
He strode off quickly with Chen Sheng in his arms.
After he left, everyone looked down at the pool of bl00d on the ground, still in shock.
“What on earth happened? Does anyone know?”
“Thank goodness for Senior Gu Zhen… I’ve heard about him before. No wonder he’s one of the academy’s best. I really want to learn from him.”
—
In the corner of the crowd, Zhang Jun stood frozen—Like the bl00d in his body had solidified.
His face was pale, lips colorless, and his body trembled like a leaf in the wind.
He couldn’t take it anymore—his vision blacked out, and he collapsed.
And when he fell, another round of screams erupted from the crowd.
“Quick! Someone help—another one just fainted!”
“Must’ve been from the shock… Why is this all happening one after another?”
