Chapter 42 – A Way to Stop the Nightmares
When Chen Sheng heard what the senior said, he knew it was true—medicine always came with side effects. But if he didn’t take the pill, he was afraid he’d fall into another terrifying nightmare.
Chen Sheng walked to the window and looked outside.
After nightfall, the fog outside the academy walls was even more distinct than during the day. It wasn’t noticeable in daylight, but now, the thick, white mist was clearly rising.
So this eerie fog was what had been separating the academy from the outside world? Was this the “domain” the senior had mentioned earlier? A ghostly realm?
If someone walked into the mist now and reached out to touch it… would they die?
If this fog was invisible during the day and only served as a barrier, what about at night? Now it looked as if it was billowing upward, like steam from a chimney or hot mist rising from heat.
There didn’t seem to be any difference. So… was the fog passable at night?
It was only a guess. Chen Sheng didn’t dare try it himself. After nightfall, compared to daytime, the entire academy felt eerily silent.
The once lively dorm building was now deathly still. Everyone had returned to their rooms, afraid to make a move—probably watching the strange mist outside the academy just like he was.
After glancing outside, Chen Sheng closed the window and drew the curtains.
He returned to bed and pulled out his phone. Their school had several large group chats.
Chen Sheng normally ignored them—they were all muted and tucked away in his group assistant folder.
But now, he pulled them out and saw that everyone was talking about the mist outside. Some people had the same theories he did. But even so, no one dared to risk their life to test it…
Chen Sheng turned off his phone. Sitting on the bed, he saw the senior busying himself at the desk.
Unable to resist, he asked, “Senior, do you need help?”
The senior turned to him and replied, “It’s fine, Sheng Sheng. I’m studying how to break through this domain. You should sleep first.”
Chen Sheng didn’t press further. He closed his eyes and lay down, thinking it would take a long time to fall asleep.
Unexpectedly, he was fast asleep within moments.
Midnight.
Chen Sheng woke up again from a nightmare. This time, it wasn’t a dream of corpses everywhere, but a scene much closer to reality—a school locked down, students trapped inside.
And the strange, misty fog outside.
In this dream, he witnessed a male student’s death.
The boy, just like Chen Sheng had imagined earlier while looking out the window, went to the edge of the white fog.
His face pale with fear, the student reached out to touch the fog—but nothing happened.
Surprised and overjoyed, he slowly began stepping into the mist.
Even in the dream, Chen Sheng couldn’t see what was inside the fog. All he saw was the student walking in smoothly, without a sound—total silence.
But then the white fog turned bl00d red. The edges of the mist began to spray bl00d, and moments later—Chen Sheng jolted awake in terror.
Clearly, entering the fog still meant death.
From the dream, it seemed the fog was alive, luring people in. If it had meant to kill immediately, it would’ve done so at the first touch. But it didn’t.
Instead, it gave hope and illusion—let the victim believe they had found a way out.
Then once they stepped fully into it… death.
Chen Sheng was soaked in cold sweat, his face pale as he sat on the bed.
His dreams always seemed to come true. So was the path paved with corpses the true future of the academy?
And had that boy’s death really happened?
Just then, he heard screams from downstairs.
He had just gotten up when he saw the senior across the room also awake, looking at him. “Sheng Sheng, was it another nightmare?”
Chen Sheng nodded. He got out of bed, put on his shoes, and headed toward the door to see what had happened.
The senior followed him.
Chen Sheng opened the dorm door to find the hallway already crowded with people.
From downstairs, they could clearly hear cries of terror—someone had died.
The sound pierced straight into Chen Sheng’s heart.
So it was the scene from his dream becoming reality? Or… was it his dream that had caused all of this?
Chen Sheng was overwhelmed with anguish. He heard someone downstairs crying out:
“It’s Liu Ning. He was my roommate. He said he was just stepping out for a bit—I didn’t think he’d actually go near that fog outside the academy. He’s still not back.
Did you see it? The fog outside is bl00d red now. That has to be Liu Ning’s bl00d. He’s dead!”
The panic in their voice was overwhelming. Fear spread through the entire dorm like wildfire.
“So going into the mist is a death sentence. But this is the only exit from the academy! If we stay trapped here, we’re going to die anyway! I don’t want to die! Isn’t there anyone who can save us?!”
Waves of despair and terror echoed through the halls like blades stabbing into Chen Sheng’s chest again and again.
He ran back into the dorm, rushed to the window, and yanked open the curtain.
Outside—just as the dream had shown—the fog had turned completely crimson.
He staggered back several steps in disbelief.
Then—he was pulled into a warm embrace from behind.
“Sheng Sheng, don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
Chen Sheng couldn’t calm down. He turned to look at the senior. “Senior, is there any way to stop me from having these nightmares?”
After a moment’s thought, the senior said, “There is… but Sheng Sheng, are you sure?”
Chen Sheng looked at him seriously. “As long as I never have those nightmares again, I’ll do anything.”
“…Alright.”
Before he could react, the senior scooped him up and laid him on the bed—then climbed on top of him.
Chen Sheng had been mentally preparing himself for some sort of method, but when he suddenly found the senior hovering above him, he couldn’t stay calm.
A deep blush spread across his face as he looked up at the senior. The senior stared down at him intently while slowly unbuttoning his shirt.
When the shirt opened, revealing the view beneath—that enviable physique—Chen Sheng’s breath caught.
He’d seen it before, sure… but this wasn’t the time for that!
Coming back to his senses, Chen Sheng blushed harder and tried to get up, but the senior easily pushed him back down.
“Sheng Sheng, be good. Didn’t you say you didn’t want to have nightmares anymore? Then let me help distract you. Once you’re exhausted, you’ll sleep dreamlessly.”
Chen Sheng flushed. He really didn’t want another nightmare, but this wasn’t the time… right?
Though it had been a while since he and the senior had done anything, right now—with everything going on outside…
The senior seemed to read his thoughts. “You were the one who said anything would do. Are you backing out now, Sheng Sheng?”
He started to get off the bed again, putting his shirt back on. “It’s fine if you’ve changed your mind.”
Chen Sheng bit his lip hard and finally made up his mind. To end the nightmares…
He wrapped his arms around the senior’s waist. “I… I said it. I’m not backing out. I’m just… afraid someone will hear us.”
His cheeks were blazing red—almost about to drip bl00d. Honestly, he wasn’t afraid of being heard… it just felt wrong at a time like this.
The senior immediately pinned him back down and whispered, “Sheng Sheng, if you keep your voice down, no one will hear.”
Chen Sheng’s face was burning like it was on fire.
As the senior undressed again, his eyes locked onto Chen Sheng. “Sheng Sheng, are you going to undress yourself… or should I help you?”
Blushing fiercely and hands trembling, Chen Sheng slowly undressed himself.
Completely bare under the covers, he saw the senior’s eyes darken—then the senior moved in.
…Lights off.
Just as the senior had said—when you’re tired, you don’t dream. In fact, when you pass out, you don’t dream at all.
When he woke up, Chen Sheng’s body ached terribly. As he moved slightly, the blanket slipped down, revealing several clear marks on his skin.
Where was the senior?
Chen Sheng looked around the dorm, but didn’t see him.
Just as he was about to get out of bed, he heard the door open and saw the senior return, carrying food.
When he saw Chen Sheng awake, the senior quickly walked over, set the food aside, and sat beside him. Naturally, he wrapped his arm around Chen Sheng’s waist and gently massaged it.
“Sheng Sheng, does it still hurt?”
Chen Sheng knew exactly what part he was referring to. His face turned red. “N… no, it doesn’t.”
“Then did you sleep well, Sheng Sheng?”
“…Yes.”
The more he answered, the lower his head drooped.
Surely this wasn’t the only way to stop having nightmares, right?
As he thought this, his gaze accidentally landed on a faint bite mark on the senior’s neck.
His face turned scarlet, and he buried his head even deeper.
