Chapter 45 – Its Conspiracy
“So, you’re saying… I have to drink bl00d and… eat… to survive now?”
Chen Sheng stared at his senior lying in bed. He had seen the wound on his senior’s arm. So earlier—after he lost control and drank his senior’s bl00d—that was what helped him regain his sanity?
Just thinking about it made his heart ache. His senior had deliberately cut his hand, knowing exactly what would happen. He had done it to save him…
Even after he had become like this—not human anymore—why was his senior still trying to save him?
“Senior… is there no way for me to turn back? I don’t want to…”
His senior looked at him and gently replied, “I’m sorry, Sheng Sheng. Once you’ve transformed, there’s no going back. But you don’t have to be afraid. I’m here with you. If we stay together, I’ll give you my bl00d every day. That way, you’ll be fine.”
“No. I don’t want that.”
Chen Sheng couldn’t accept that. His senior had already saved him so many times. And now that he was no longer human, there was no reason to keep saving him.
All he wanted now was to kill that thing—the one responsible for everything. Even if it meant dying with it.
He was no longer the same as before. Even though he wasn’t human anymore, he had power now. He wasn’t that weak boy hiding behind his senior, watching him get hurt.
Now, it was his turn to protect his senior.
But that thing wasn’t in the academy anymore. Hadn’t it said it wanted to kill him? Why had it disappeared?
With that in mind, he turned to his senior. “Senior, I’m not human anymore. You don’t need to keep saving me. I can protect myself now.
Where is that thing? I’m going to find it.”
After he finished, his senior said,
“Sheng Sheng, you’re no match for it. You’ll die if you go.”
“I’m not afraid. I’m not human anymore, Senior. None of that matters to me now.”
Only then did Chen Sheng remember—everyone else in the academy had already fled. So why was his senior still here? Had he been waiting this whole time… just for him?
That thought struck him.
He looked back at his senior again and saw sorrow etched deep in his expression. Just earlier, he’d asked him not to leave…
But he wasn’t human anymore. He didn’t want to lose control and…
What if he hurt his senior?
Chen Sheng’s chest tightened. No matter how painful it was, his senior’s safety was more important.
His resolve firm, he said, “Rest for now, Senior. Tomorrow I’ll take you back to the apartment, then I’ll leave. Tonight, I’ll stay and watch over you.”
His senior closed his eyes, and Chen Sheng could sense he had fallen asleep. So he quietly remained by his side.
Outside, night had already fallen.
He hadn’t realized time passed so quickly now that he wasn’t human. Back when he’d lost control, he must’ve looked terrifying. Yet his senior…
Chen Sheng’s heart sank. He looked at his hands, still faintly wrapped in a thin layer of black mist.
And he no longer felt tired—he didn’t have to worry about nightmares or sleep anymore. Because now… he was the nightmare.
Time slipped by quickly.
Chen Sheng sat by the bed for a while, then stood and walked to the window. He had fully adapted to the dark—he could see far into the night without issue.
Just as he was gazing outside—
On the bed, Gu Zhen’s hand moved slightly. A wisp of black mist split from his body, instantly transforming into a hideous black shadow standing beside the bed. It raised its sharp claws, ready to strike down.
Chen Sheng sensed it—a powerful presence, stronger than his own. Fear instinctively rose in his heart. His first reaction was to flee.
But then he saw it—that thing standing by his senior’s bed, claws poised to strike.
It was that thing—the one that turned him into what he was. It had come back. After ruining him, it was now here to harm his senior too.
Rage burned hotter than fear. Chen Sheng charged forward.
The thing cackled, a sharp, piercing sound full of mockery, when it saw him.
Then, right in front of him, it grabbed his senior by the throat and said,
“Chen Sheng, don’t you like him? But now… humans and monsters walk different paths. He kills things like us. Killing you is effortless. I don’t really care. But seeing you like this is pitiful, so… how about I turn him into one of us too? That way, we’ll all be the same. I’m not picky about hierarchy—let the three of us be together, Chen Sheng.”
Hearing those words…
Chen Sheng didn’t think it was possible to still feel disgust after becoming a monster—but he did.
The black mist around him surged wildly, rattling the entire room. Glass shattered. A freezing wind swept through the space.
He wanted to strike—but his senior was still in the thing’s hands.
While Chen Sheng was still trying to think of a plan, the creature plunged its claw into his senior’s neck.
No!
Chen Sheng snapped. He lost all reason. In a blink, he was in front of the creature, ready to rip it apart.
But the thing vanished the moment he got close.
Now fully berserk, Chen Sheng was consumed with bloodlust. He only wanted to kill—his pupils pitch-black. He turned to a nearby human and lunged.
Just as he was about to strike—Gu Zhen’s eyes flew open. His pupils were also pitch black.
And the instant their eyes met, Chen Sheng—mindless just a second ago—felt an overwhelming, suffocating fear.
In a flash, he regained his senses.
He didn’t remember what had just happened. The only thing on his mind was checking on his senior.
Seeing that he was alright, Chen Sheng finally let out a breath of relief.
Even though he couldn’t recall what he’d done while out of control, he knew one thing—he couldn’t kill that thing. It had escaped again.
But now, he also understood its true goal.
He had originally planned to leave—but now he hesitated.
Just then, his senior coughed a few times and said, “Sheng Sheng, I could feel it. That thing came… for me. You need to leave. Don’t worry about me anymore.”
Those words hurt. Chen Sheng didn’t hesitate anymore.
His senior had always protected him. Now it was his turn to protect his senior.
He looked into his eyes and asked, “Senior… do you really not care what I’ve become? I’m not even human anymore.”
His senior replied, “Sheng Sheng, no matter what you become, from the beginning until now, I’ve only liked you. I’ll always like you. We’re lovers—how could I ever mind?”
Chen Sheng was inevitably moved by those words.
But he was still afraid he’d lose control and hurt his senior. If that thing weren’t around, he could at least choose to stay away—or secretly watch from afar.
But now, that creature had its sights set on his senior. He couldn’t let it succeed.
“Senior, is there any other way to keep me from losing control?”
“No, Sheng Sheng. The only way is to feed you my bl00d… unless you want to kill other people.”
Hearing that, Chen Sheng’s mind instantly flashed back to the academy… the mutilated bodies…
Pain welled up inside him.
Even if he wasn’t human anymore—his thoughts, his morals, were still the same.
He didn’t want to kill. He had been human once.
As he stood in silence, his senior said, “Sheng Sheng, don’t worry. You didn’t hurt me while you were out of control. You only drank a little of my bl00d. Just a bit, not much.
Besides, you forgot, didn’t you? I’m not powerless. At your current level, you couldn’t harm me even if you tried.
And my bl00d can even help you rise in rank.”
Chen Sheng stood quietly at the bedside.
He knew how powerful his senior was. But what he feared was that his senior might hesitate to stop him.
Maybe… he was overthinking things.
He didn’t care about rising in rank. He just didn’t want his senior to get hurt—and he couldn’t leave him unprotected.
After a moment of silence, he finally said, “Senior, let’s leave the academy. After that, I’ll protect you. And when I lose control… you can restrain me.”
“Restrain?”
His senior’s eyes lit up. “Sheng Sheng, I just remembered. I have something from before… something meant to restrain. A tool. With it, you won’t have to worry anymore.”
“That’s great, Senior! Please get it now!”
Chen Sheng urged him anxiously.
“It’s at the apartment. Sheng Sheng, let’s go home.”
His senior pushed himself upright. Chen Sheng glanced at his own hands, then at his senior’s weakened body, and finally reached out to support him.
“Alright. I’ll take you back to the apartment now,” he said.
