Chapter 5 – I Really Like You
Chen Sheng sat on his bed, waiting for a long time. All he could hear was the sound of running water from the bathroom.
It was a bit strange—why was Zhang Jun taking so long in the shower and still hadn’t come out?
Finally, just as he was starting to worry that something might have happened to Zhang Jun, the bathroom door suddenly opened, and Zhang Jun walked out.
His hair was dripping wet, leaving water all over the floor. What shocked and embarrassed Chen Sheng even more was that Zhang Jun wasn’t wearing anything at all… he just walked right up to him like that.
Even though they were both guys, Chen Sheng still felt awkward and turned his head away.
“Why aren’t you wearing clothes? And your hair—it’s still wet. You didn’t towel off or blow-dry it. You’ll catch a cold like this.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhang Jun said, “Sorry, I didn’t bring any clothes. Can I borrow a set from you?”
Chen Sheng immediately felt a pang of guilt. He’d forgotten that Zhang Jun came straight back to the dorm with him after class and hadn’t gone to his own place to get clothes. He quickly got up and opened his closet.
There were only a few sets of clothes inside—just some everyday spares. Chen Sheng felt a little embarrassed. After carefully looking through them, he picked out the best set, even though it had faded a bit from being washed too many times.
He brought the clothes over to Zhang Jun and awkwardly said,
“I… hope you don’t mind. These are…”
Before he could finish, Zhang Jun’s eyes locked intensely on the clothes in his hands. Suddenly, he snatched them up and said,
“I don’t mind. I really like them.”
Chen Sheng felt moved. He was glad Zhang Jun didn’t mind.
When he heard the sound of Zhang Jun putting the clothes on, Chen Sheng finally looked at him again.
Zhang Jun was about the same height as him, so the clothes fit pretty well—just a bit old and worn out.
Thankfully, Zhang Jun didn’t seem to care at all.
Then, noticing Zhang Jun’s hair still dripping and soaking through even the fresh clothes, Chen Sheng said worriedly,
“There’s a hair dryer under the sink in the bathroom. You should use it. If you don’t dry your hair, you’ll get a headache.”
“Okay,” Zhang Jun replied, then turned and headed back to the bathroom, his soaking wet hair still dripping.
Chen Sheng watched him and couldn’t shake a strange feeling—something was definitely off.
It was like… Zhang Jun had become a completely different person.
Before he went into the bathroom earlier, he’d still been acting normal.
Chen Sheng figured Zhang Jun must’ve been really shaken up by all the weird stuff in the dorm.
To be honest, it was scary—whether it was that random person who tried to add him online or his inexplicably cold bed…
Thinking about it made Chen Sheng feel even more regretful.
If he’d known, he wouldn’t have asked Zhang Jun to come back to the dorm with him. Now even Zhang Jun had been frightened.
Caught in his guilt, Chen Sheng didn’t even notice the silence coming from the bathroom—or perhaps he simply ignored it without realizing.
In truth, there was no sound at all coming from the bathroom.
While he was still lost in thought, Zhang Jun suddenly walked out again.
The speed surprised Chen Sheng—he’d dried his hair that fast?
But looking at Zhang Jun’s hair, it was completely dry… really dry.
Still, that was way too fast.
“Going to bed?”
Chen Sheng, who was still staring at Zhang Jun’s hair, heard the sudden question.
He checked the time—it was late.
Then he looked over and saw the opposite bed was still empty.
He quickly grabbed clean sheets and bedding from the wardrobe and was about to start making the bed when Zhang Jun said again,
“No need. I’ll sleep with you.”
Chen Sheng froze, still holding the sheets in his hands.
The dorm bed wasn’t small, but it would be cramped for two people.
And besides, his bed always turned freezing cold around midnight. Zhang Jun had already been scared tonight—if the bed suddenly turned cold again, it would only make it worse.
He definitely wouldn’t be able to sleep if that happened.
After thinking it through, Chen Sheng said,
“I’d better make your bed. You can sleep across from me. Just having you here is already a huge help. If my bed gets cold again tonight, you definitely won’t be able to sleep either. Just sleep across from me.
If anything happens in the middle of the night, I’ll call you.”
After he finished speaking, he heard Zhang Jun reply,
“Okay.”
Chen Sheng finally breathed a sigh of relief and continued making the bed.
But while he was working, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Zhang Jun was watching him—that kind of direct, unblinking stare.
Zhang Jun had watched him do stuff before, but this time it felt different. His stare made Chen Sheng’s scalp tingle—he couldn’t explain why, but it felt unnatural.
He hurriedly finished setting up the bed and turned around—only to meet Zhang Jun’s gaze directly.
That straight, intense stare—Chen Sheng only looked for a second before quickly turning his eyes away.
“I usually sleep with the light on. If it bothers you, I’ll turn it off later,” he said.
“No, it’s fine. I don’t mind.”
Then, Chen Sheng watched as Zhang Jun sat down on the freshly made bed.
He quickly climbed into his own bed too. After he lay down, he noticed Zhang Jun was still sitting upright, staring at him.
Unable to take it anymore, Chen Sheng asked,
“Why are you staring at me, Zhang Jun?”
“Nothing. I just want to look at you a little more.”
After that, Zhang Jun took off his shoes and lay down.
Chen Sheng followed suit, lying down in his own bed.
But he couldn’t fall asleep. He tossed and turned, restless.
Part of him kept thinking about what Zhang Jun said—just want to look at you more. That was strange.
They saw each other every day. Why say something like that?
And even if Zhang Jun was scared, this intense staring just didn’t make sense.
The more Chen Sheng thought about it, the more unsettling it felt.
He was definitely overthinking it. Overthinking everything.
Still, Zhang Jun was here tonight to keep him company.
So maybe tonight, the bed wouldn’t turn icy cold again.
Even if something weird did happen, at least Zhang Jun would be there…
And tomorrow, he was definitely going to talk to the dorm manager and check the hallway surveillance footage.
If he could find that person, he’d make sure to talk things out properly.
If not, he’d report it to the counselor.
With all those thoughts running through his head, Chen Sheng gradually drifted off to sleep.
What he didn’t know—
Was that after he fell asleep, “Zhang Jun,” lying across from him, suddenly turned over.
Facing Chen Sheng’s direction, he stared at him with that same unblinking, intense gaze.
Just like that, midnight came.
Chen Sheng didn’t feel the usual icy chill, so he slept even more deeply.
He didn’t notice—
That the dorm light had suddenly gone out.
In the next moment, in the darkness, a faint sound could be heard.
And then—
A shadow appeared next to Chen Sheng’s bed. It moved swiftly and slipped under his blanket.
The cold it brought made Chen Sheng instinctively curl away in his sleep, clutching the blanket tighter.
But the shadow was relentless, pressing close to him.
Staring directly at him.
Finally—
A cold, chilling voice whispered in the dark:
I’ve been watching you.
I really, really like you, Chen Sheng.
