Chapter 50 – The Whole Truth
Although Chen Sheng didn’t recognize the man standing next to Zhang Jun, he had sensed Zhang Jun’s presence—and he was indeed the same person, no longer disguised.
Still, before opening the door, Chen Sheng instinctively looked at his senior, silently asking for his opinion.
His senior smiled and said, “Since it’s your friend and you haven’t seen him in a while, let him in.”
Only then did Chen Sheng open the door, though the sense of foreboding and danger in his heart grew even stronger.
As the door opened, his appearance was fully exposed to Zhang Jun. Even though the black mist no longer clung to him, his inhuman nature was still clearly visible.
Especially to Zhang Jun, who had spent the past days surrounded by all kinds of ghosts—each with varying degrees of terrifying appearances. Regardless of how well they disguised themselves as humans, the aura of death couldn’t be hidden.
So, the moment the door opened, Zhang Jun instantly saw the ghostly aura on Chen Sheng. While his face hadn’t changed much at all, at least at first glance—maybe to outsiders there was no difference—Zhang Jun saw the truth clearly.
It was so stark, so jarring.
Zhang Jun had imagined countless scenarios—but never had he imagined that Chen Sheng would carry a ghost’s aura.
Unless…
Zhang Jun’s eyes widened. He looked at Chen Sheng, then at Gu Zhen, who stood quietly behind him.
Gu Zhen’s face bore a smile. Though his gaze toward Zhang Jun was bone-chillingly cold, that smile was filled with triumphant mockery—it screamed of his success.
Seeing that smug and provocative expression, Zhang Jun could hardly bear it. He looked at Chen Sheng and said, “Chen Sheng, I came to tell you something important.”
Chen Sheng was puzzled.
“What is it?”
But then he quickly realized—he had spent these past days always with his senior. His senior never minded the way he looked now. Even though the black mist had faded, his face still looked the same as before.
But anyone with experience could still see the difference between a human and a ghost.
Especially since he didn’t know how to conceal or disguise it.
He had no idea how to explain it to Zhang Jun—or why Zhang Jun didn’t seem afraid. Did he not realize what had happened to him?
While Chen Sheng was still trying to figure it out, Shen Yu had already run out of patience. In the blink of an eye, he raised his hand and unleashed a powerful energy—not at Gu Zhen, but at Chen Sheng.
Chen Sheng sensed the force rushing toward him. It was too strong—he had no time to dodge.
He could only watch in horror as the energy was about to shatter his very soul—when suddenly, another surge of energy intercepted and neutralized the first just in time.
At the door, Zhang Jun saw Shen Yu trying to attack Chen Sheng and panicked. This wasn’t part of the plan!
Even if he had guessed that Chen Sheng was no longer human, he firmly believed Chen Sheng hadn’t done anything to hurt others.
That was what Zhang Jun believed. He quickly whispered to Shen Yu, who just scoffed and said, “Your friend’s black aura may be restrained, but I can still see it clearly. Who says he hasn’t killed anyone? That kind of aura means he has.”
Zhang Jun didn’t believe it. He was convinced that it was all Gu Zhen’s doing. He tried to argue further, but Shen Yu had already launched his attack again—this time, aiming at Gu Zhen.
Meanwhile, Chen Sheng, who had just been saved, turned to his senior with gratitude—only to suddenly see the unfamiliar man lunging toward his senior. Alarmed, he immediately tried to help—but Zhang Jun stopped him.
Zhang Jun was anxious like a cat on hot bricks. Even though Chen Sheng was now stronger than him, he didn’t know what Shen Yu’s earlier attack had been meant to do.
Luckily, Chen Sheng was unharmed.
Without wasting another second, Zhang Jun grabbed Chen Sheng and pulled him toward the door, sticking to their original plan. But the moment he touched Chen Sheng’s hand, a wave of icy coldness surged through his body—cold and eerily familiar.
It was the same black aura from Gu Zhen.
So, Chen Sheng had ended up like this because of Gu Zhen after all.
He wasn’t even sure if Chen Sheng could still return to the way he was before.
Chen Sheng, however, was still fixated on his senior. He knew he wasn’t a match for that man—but how could he just stand by and let someone hurt his senior?
Even though that man felt dangerous when sensed earlier, he wasn’t something disguised—he was human.
But judging from his strength, he, like his senior, possessed a special ability to deal with ghosts and spirits. Just moments ago, he had seen through Chen Sheng’s disguise and tried to destroy him.
But why would he attack his senior?
“Chen Sheng! Chen Sheng!”
Chen Sheng was still lost in thought when he heard Zhang Jun’s urgent voice. They were now outside.
It was still pouring rain. Only then did Chen Sheng realize that Zhang Jun had dragged him all the way downstairs.
He immediately tried to rush back—but was stopped by Zhang Jun.
“Chen Sheng, don’t you understand? The reason you became like this—it’s all because of Gu Zhen! He’s the thing that’s been haunting you at the academy all along, always pretending to be by your side.”
Chen Sheng froze in place, stiff as if rusted.
“How could that be? Zhang Jun, are you mistaken?”
After all, that entity had possessed Zhang Jun several times before, making Chen Sheng doubt his senior’s words.
But now… Chen Sheng wasn’t human anymore, and he didn’t sense anything strange within Zhang Jun. He was still Zhang Jun.
So was Zhang Jun now saying that his senior was actually the thing that had haunted him all this time?
Chen Sheng was completely confused.
Though he couldn’t get wet in the rain, the damp air only intensified the cold aura radiating from his body.
Beside him, Zhang Jun was shivering uncontrollably from the chill. Looking at Chen Sheng, he knew he still didn’t believe him. So, he began to recount everything—how the fog-like thing had possessed him, how Gu Zhen had taken control, how he’d escaped from the academy…
He told Chen Sheng everything.
As Chen Sheng listened, he couldn’t help but recall that time when something had possessed Zhang Jun and warned him that his senior was the one haunting him.
Back then, he had tested his senior repeatedly and found nothing suspicious. Then there was the note Zhang Jun had left him in the classroom, asking him to escape the academy with him.
But the moment he read the note… that terrifying incident happened in the classroom. He had fallen down the stairs while running away—and his senior had saved him.
His senior had told him that the thing inside Zhang Jun was lying. But Chen Sheng hadn’t believed him.
Instead, he gave his senior the pill and fled with Zhang Jun—only to find out that Zhang Jun had already been possessed.
After returning to the academy, it was once again his senior who saved him.
Now, putting everything together, what Zhang Jun said made disturbing sense. Every time he tried to escape, that thing would always appear just in time to stop him—while his senior always showed up to save him.
After Zhang Jun left the academy, Chen Sheng had trusted his senior completely.
Then came the nightmares, the pills, the changes in his body…
The more Chen Sheng thought about it, the more painful it became. He tore off the bandage around his neck—and instantly, black mist surged out uncontrollably.
Zhang Jun had long suspected Chen Sheng was no longer human, but seeing it up close still startled him.
Chen Sheng looked at him with pitch-black eyes and said,
“Zhang Jun… I’m going to find Senior. I want to ask him… face to face.”
Though his voice was calm, Zhang Jun could feel the chaos and rage bubbling from the black mist around him.
But that was good.
He had already told Chen Sheng everything that had happened in the past.
Now, the only way for Chen Sheng to truly believe… was to see it with his own eyes.
