Chapter 8 – Dense, Creepy Messages
Zhang Jun stared wide-eyed as he spoke, looking at Chen Sheng’s expression, as if he was about to break.
Worried, he said, “Are you okay? It’s alright. If your clothes are gone, we can just buy new ones. Or don’t even bother—just wear mine. We’re the same height anyway.”
Chen Sheng stood in front of the empty wardrobe for a long time before finally coming to his senses. He hadn’t expected that guy to go so far—and now, to make matters worse, the person hadn’t even spared his clothes.
If it were just a few garments, that’d be one thing. But even his underwear had been taken.
What did that person want with his old, worn clothes? Especially his underclothes?
Could it be…
Chen Sheng trembled. His face was ashen, and a chill crept up from deep inside.
Zhang Jun, noticing he still hadn’t spoken, grew more concerned.
Anyone in this situation would be shaken. This was beyond messed up—it was perverted and creepy to an extreme.
Zhang Jun couldn’t recall ever encountering someone so sick and twisted. And this creep clearly had a thing for Chen Sheng… Just thinking about it gave Zhang Jun the chills.
He continued, “Let’s head back. Staying here any longer will just make you feel worse.”
“…Mm.”
Chen Sheng snapped out of it, still filled with revulsion, and followed Zhang Jun out of the dorm.
Even though he knew the lock was useless now, he still locked the door out of habit.
Back in Zhang Jun’s dorm, surrounded by the lively noise of his new roommates, some of the creeping dread finally began to fade.
At least now he’d switched dorms.
Being around Zhang Jun and the other guys—so many of them in one room—that guy probably wouldn’t dare show up here.
As he finished that thought, Chen Sheng suddenly noticed a few items of clothing in his hands.
They were from Zhang Jun.
“These are new,” Zhang Jun said. “I bought them but never wore them. Even the underwear’s new. I’m not sure if they’ll fit, but it should be fine for now.”
“Thank you, Zhang Jun.”
Zhang Jun gave him a firm pat on the shoulder. “Come on, how many times do I have to tell you? No need for thanks between friends. Now go shower first. After you’re done, I’ll go, then Wang Gang and the others.”
“Okay.”
Chen Sheng quickly grabbed the clothes and headed into the bathroom.
By now, the sky outside had already darkened.
When he came out from the shower, Zhang Jun was waiting with his own change of clothes and went in to wash up next.
Chen Sheng climbed up to his bed—it took some effort.
He was also mildly afraid of heights.
It was his first time sleeping in a top bunk. The only thing keeping him from falling was a thin rail.
Even though it offered some security, he could still see how far he was from the ground.
And Zhang Jun wasn’t sleeping in the bottom bunk beneath him.
A little nervous, Chen Sheng pressed himself tightly against the wall. He didn’t dare move much.
Any movement could affect the person below. And this wasn’t even his own dorm—it made him feel a bit out of place.
Lying there stiffly, his back against the wall, he pulled out his phone.
No new messages from “I’m always watching you.”
Chen Sheng let out a breath of relief.
As time passed, the other boys finished showering and climbed into bed one by one.
Around 11 p.m., the lights were turned off.
The entire dorm was instantly plunged into darkness, though you could still hear some quiet chatting.
Chen Sheng wasn’t used to sleeping in the dark, but this wasn’t his room.
He couldn’t expect everyone to accommodate him. Just being allowed to stay here was already a blessing.
The voices in the dorm weren’t loud.
Then, Chen Sheng noticed a new message notification on his phone.
His heart clenched, fearing it was from that person again.
He nervously tapped into the chat—and saw it was from Zhang Jun.
Zhang Jun: How are you doing? Still getting used to it? If it’s uncomfortable, you can take my bed and I’ll sleep on the top bunk.
Seeing this message warmed Chen Sheng’s heart.
He didn’t want to trouble Zhang Jun anymore.
So he replied:
Chen Sheng: It’s okay, I’m good here. No need to switch.
Zhang Jun: Alright then. I’m going to play a game for a bit before sleeping. Wanna join?
Chen Sheng: I’m heading to bed. Feeling a little tired.
Zhang Jun: Makes sense. Get some rest, then.
Chen Sheng: Mm.
After sending the message, Chen Sheng put his phone on silent and set it aside.
Pressed against the wall, he felt a bit safer with so many people around.
Not long after, he drifted off to sleep.
He didn’t know how much time had passed…
But suddenly, he vaguely heard a noise.
It was faint, but very close.
His eyes snapped open.
The room was still pitch-black—not completely dark, though. There was a soft glow from someone’s charging phone and a lit laptop across the room.
By that dim light…
Chen Sheng glanced beside him—still alone. Then looked around the dorm. Nothing unusual.
And as soon as he opened his eyes, the noise abruptly stopped.
Chen Sheng frowned. Had he imagined it?
Was he so tense he was hearing things?
He scanned the room again, then shut his eyes.
He was really tired. And now that the bed wasn’t freezing cold like before, it felt bearable.
But just as he dozed off again—
Tap. Tap. Tap.
That sound came back.
It was like something knocking. Deep, muffled… like it was coming from behind a barrier, yet still somehow very close.
Though not loud, in the silent dorm, it was impossible to miss.
Strangely, none of the other boys stirred. As if they hadn’t heard anything.
Chen Sheng squeezed his eyes shut, trying to figure out where the sound was coming from.
It felt… right next to him.
Right next to him…
That meant either the bed beneath him—or the wall behind him.
His scalp went numb at the thought.
He slowly reached for his phone and carefully moved the pillow aside, pressing his ear against the bed.
He listened for a moment.
No sound.
So…
Chen Sheng turned, aimed his phone at the wall behind him, and used the light to examine it.
White. Blank. Nothing there.
But the knocking hadn’t stopped. It kept going.
He swallowed hard, terrified.
Bit by bit, he edged closer to the wall.
And once he got close enough—
He could clearly hear it.
It was coming from inside the wall.
Someone… was tapping on the wall from within.
And when Chen Sheng, shaking, reached out and touched the surface—
It was icy cold, just like the bed had been before.
And worse—it felt like something was wrapping around his hand.
He recoiled instantly, heart pounding in fear.
He glanced at the time.
1:00 a.m. sharp.
At that exact moment—
A message arrived.
It was from “I’m always watching you.”
Chen Sheng, still shaken by the strange sound and cold sensation from the wall, nearly screamed when he saw the notification.
But he quickly covered his mouth.
More messages followed in rapid succession.
Despite himself, he opened them.
First: a photo of his underwear.
Then: a few pictures of his clothes.
And finally—
A flood of grotesque, horrifying messages filled the entire chat window:
[Your clothes smell so good. I really love them, Chen Sheng.]
[How could you move into Zhang Jun’s dorm? Do you think I can’t see you now? Chen Sheng.]
[I’ve always been watching you. I’m always here. Always here. Always here. Always here. I’m with you all the time. You can’t get rid of me. No matter where you hide, I’m always here.]
[I’m always watching you. Always watching you. Always watching you. Always watching you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. You smell so good. You smell so good…]
