Scarred Hearts — A Girls' Love Tale - Chapter 17
Chang Family Main Residence
The desolate winter wind howled past the Gothic spires, rushing into the distance, one gust after another.
The large open space in front of the main residence was filled with a dense crowd, yet the atmosphere was deadly silent. Everyone stood ready with weapons in hand, but no one dared to make the first move.
Yan Shuangfei took a deep breath. The cold air rushed into her lungs, jolting her awake, then slowly exhaled.
Still, no one spoke, but it was clear—Yan Shuangfei had come with the intent to accuse and punish.
Chang Zheyun stood with a submissive expression, his right hand subtly inching toward his waist. Behind him stood a swarm of Chang family members, packed tightly together—it looked like they had come out in full force.
Yan Shuangfei was very satisfied with the current mood. It was quiet, tense—she didn’t have to raise her voice or waste energy.
She casually lifted her hand and clapped a few times. The sound was crisp and simple, hard to read, but it was very much her style.
“The Chang family sure has guts, going behind the Yan family’s back to work directly with foreign organizations,” she said sharply. “Don’t you know the rules? You’ve crossed a line, and you still think I’d let you live?”
In truth, it wasn’t a big deal. The Yan family usually turned a blind eye to such things. But this time, it was clear things were going to get out of hand.
Yan Shuangfei could barely wait any longer—once Chang Zheyun was dead, she’d have one less thing weighing on her mind.
Since she had already laid it all out, and knowing how ruthless Yan Shuangfei could be, Chang Zheyun didn’t hesitate. His right hand moved quickly—he pulled out a gun and fired. The others followed his lead and also drew their weapons.
But Yan Shuangfei was ready. She dodged the expected bullets and, with Jiang Li on her back, fired back with her own gun.
Chang Zheyun moved well—he nimbly dodged stray bullets and returned fire, shooting several of Yan’s men with sharp precision.
But when it came to overall strength, the Chang family was far from being a match for the Yan family, which had a long and deep history in the underworld. On top of that, Chang Zheyun hadn’t prepared properly. He was clearly caught off guard. That the Yan family made a move at all was already a risky move for them. But who would’ve thought Yan Shuangfei, so driven by emotion, would act so recklessly?
“Yan Shuangfei, are you out of your mind?!” Chang Zheyun snarled, gritting his teeth. He quickly reloaded and shot down a few more of Yan’s men who tried to close in.
Yan Shuangfei, holding her gun in her left hand, easily dodged every bullet. The Chang family was already short-handed and poorly trained—they posed no real threat to her.
Her arms were strong enough that even firing one-handed didn’t make her hands shake from the recoil.
I’m not crazy. I just want to send you to hell a little sooner. Yan Shuangfei gritted her teeth in frustration. Why is Chang Zheyun so damn slippery? Why can’t I hit him?!
Before long, all of Chang’s people had been wiped out by the Yan family. Chang Zheyun alone slipped into the main residence.
“Damn it,” Yan Shuangfei cursed under her breath.
Su Cheng quickly scanned the size and structure of the residence and said, “If we search it room by room, it’s going to take a while.”
Yan Shuangfei stayed silent for a moment, staring at the grand building. Searching it piece by piece really would be a pain.
“Burn it,” she finally said.
“I don’t believe he can just watch his home go up in flames without doing anything.”
Thick black smoke turned the sky murky. Yan Shuangfei’s eyes were bloodshot with rage. The roar of the flames drowned out all other sound, and the air was filled with choking particles.
Thankfully, the four major families had the habit of building their estates in remote areas. Otherwise, Yan Shuangfei wouldn’t have dared to commit arson in the middle of the city.
And as for the environmental damage, Yan Shuangfei thought: Once I kill Chang Zheyun, I’ll pay for reforestation.
Sure enough, before her patience ran out, Chang Zheyun stumbled out of the house, unable to take it anymore. Even at death’s door, he still tried to take someone down with him, firing wildly in all directions. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt.
Without hesitation, Yan Shuangfei drew a dagger from her waist and walked up to Chang Zheyun. There was no doubt—Chang Zheyun was both a coward and, in his own way, brave. At least he wouldn’t die alone.
“I’ve wanted to kill you for a long time,” she whispered as she pressed the dagger to his throat, pinning him against the wall. One hand held him firmly in place, while the dagger slowly moved down to his chest.
Yan Shuangfei’s voice was like a soft murmur, quiet and steady.
Suddenly, the silence was broken by an unfamiliar noise. A closer listen revealed it was the sound of engines.
“Boss, a convoy is coming. Looks like it’s from the Luo family,” someone reported.
Yan Shuangfei’s face changed. Her knee shot up, jamming into Chang Zheyun’s body.
“You tipped her off!”
When Luo Qinghan stepped out of the car, she saw Yan Shuangfei in profile, holding Chang Zheyun pinned against the wall.
“Stop!” Luo Qinghan shouted angrily at her.
Yan Shuangfei heard her voice and briefly paused her next move.
“I said stop!” Luo Qinghan was running toward her at full speed.
But Yan Shuangfei didn’t hesitate any longer. The dagger continued its path and stabbed cleanly into Chang Zheyun’s chest.
She slowly pulled it out, specks of bl00d splattering onto her face. She asked for some napkins and carefully wiped herself clean. Only then did she turn around—and saw Luo Qinghan standing there, trembling with rage, biting her lip in silence. Her expression turned cold, like a wall of ice.
The cold wind had made Yan Shuangfei’s face almost numb, but she still tried to smile warmly at Luo Qinghan.
Clearly, Luo Qinghan wasn’t in the mood.
But Yan Shuangfei didn’t regret it—not even a little. Without Chang Zheyun, things would be so much easier moving forward.
Luo Qinghan’s face was blank. Everything had spiraled out of her control. She never imagined Yan Shuangfei would be so bold, taking action without telling her anything. She had been completely fooled, thinking Yan was just going out for a walk.
Yan Shuangfei straightened her clothes, then reached out and gently wrapped her arm around Luo Qinghan’s shoulder. She lowered her head and whispered playfully, “When we get home, go get the whip. I’ll take it.”
“You said it.” Luo Qinghan didn’t hesitate. She grabbed Yan Shuangfei and dragged her into the car, her icy aura so intense that Yan Shuangfei trembled, not daring to make a sound.
Facing Yan Shuangfei, Luo Qinghan stared at her coldly. Her voice was calm, without a hint of emotion.
“You better not regret it.”
