Scarred Hearts — A Girls' Love Tale - Chapter 37
Next to Luo Qinghan’s main residence, there was a training room. It had been cleaned and set up when Yan Shuangfei moved in. Normally, Yan Shuangfei would occasionally go there to practice, but most of the time, the place was left unused.
That changed after Shadow arrived. The training room started getting used a lot more frequently.
Sometimes, Luo Qinghan felt that Shadow and Yan Shuangfei were quite alike.
They were both skilled in cold weapons, each had their own personal sword, and both were highly capable fighters. They also shared one trait that gave others headaches — difficult personalities.
But they were also very different. Yan Shuangfei came from an underworld family and had lived a life of luxury from a young age, always surrounded by admiration and support. All she had to do was focus on her training. Because of this, she carried a kind of arrogance typical of rich kids. Still, there was one thing Luo Qinghan appreciated — while people shouldn’t be too proud, a bit of pride shows confidence. It was also a useful weapon to keep opportunists in check.
Shadow, on the other hand, had built herself up from nothing. She had no one to rely on and had single-handedly destroyed the assassin organization that trained her — Hell. That act alone sent shockwaves through the assassin world. Later, during the Shadow Realm’s top assassin competition, she defeated all the other challengers through her own strength. Her path had been drenched in bl00d. Surviving was already a miracle.
Now, Shadow and Yan Shuangfei stood holding wooden swords. Seeing how eager Shadow looked, Luo Qinghan and the doctor exchanged a helpless smile and sat off to the side to watch.
Shadow appeared calm and collected, showing the composure of a seasoned warrior. But inside, she was thrilled. Finally, she could redeem herself. If it hadn’t been for her disabled right hand, how could she have possibly lost before? Her pride wouldn’t allow her to carry the label of “loser.”
“Hey, can we start now?” Shadow tapped the ground with the tip of her sword, the sound echoing crisply. Yan Shuangfei looked like she couldn’t even hold the sword properly — this was going to be an easy win.
Last night, after a long, intimate night with the doctor, Shadow had collapsed from exhaustion, curled up in her arms, seeking warmth. She also took the chance to vent about the frustration in her heart.
“I have to get my revenge,” Shadow had said, grinding her teeth. She was fiercely competitive, and every time she lost, Yan Shuangfei would tease her on purpose. After a few times, Shadow was left with serious psychological trauma!
“She doesn’t even remember anything now. What’s the point of beating her?” the doctor replied, gently running her fingers through Shadow’s hair, unable to stop touching its silky smoothness.
Shadow buried her head in the doctor’s chest. She loved the feeling so much — soft, warm, and comforting, like she wanted to drown in it.
After a while, Shadow lifted her head and looked up at the doctor with a pitiful expression. “Can’t you just let me lie to myself a little?” she said, then buried her face back into her cozy spot, pretending to sleep.
The doctor couldn’t help but laugh and whispered, “So childish.” Then she gently moved Shadow’s head onto the pillow, ignoring her pouty, accusing face.
Back in the training room, Yan Shuangfei was still curiously examining her wooden sword. When Shadow asked again if they could begin, Yan absentmindedly replied, just as Shadow’s sword came slashing toward her. She barely managed to block it by instinct.
That strike had a lot of power behind it, forcing Yan Shuangfei to stumble back several steps. Shadow saw an opportunity and charged forward, attacking like a storm.
At first, Yan Shuangfei relied on muscle memory to defend herself, but she quickly lost her rhythm. She had long forgotten the techniques and was only reacting out of habit from years of training. On top of that, her intelligence had dropped several levels — like switching from fiber internet back to dial-up. Her brain just froze when trying to handle anything too complex.
“Ouch…” Shadow’s wooden sword struck Yan Shuangfei’s arm hard. Yan immediately dropped her sword and held her arm, giving up the fight.
Luo Qinghan saw this and knew it wasn’t good. Yan Shuangfei’s eyebrows were furrowed in pain, and her eyes were already misty with tears. Luo quickly rushed over and rolled up her sleeve. As she touched the area, she felt the heat rising and the muscle stiffening.
“You really don’t know how to hold back,” the doctor scolded. Shadow looked genuinely apologetic and put on her best “I’m sorry” face.
“Shuangfei?” Shadow poked her gently. “Does it hurt?”
Yan Shuangfei just glared at her in silence.
Sigh. Dealing with someone whose IQ had been eaten by a dog required patience and a childlike attitude.
Shadow got the message.
“If it hurts, will you make it up to me?” Yan Shuangfei suddenly asked, throwing out the question without warning. Shadow’s face darkened as she stared into Yan Shuangfei’s wide, innocent eyes. Damn it — that helpless, pitiful expression was totally disarming.
Shadow wanted to say no immediately. But standing next to Yan Shuangfei was the queen-like Luo Qinghan, and on her own side stood the possessive and bossy doctor.
She was completely surrounded!
Shadow wanted to cry. I’m the one who’s being bullied here! Why are you all siding with her?
“Fine,” Shadow agreed through gritted teeth. She silently prayed, Please don’t ask for anything too crazy. I can’t take it.
“Can you teach me how to cook?” Yan Shuangfei blurted out excitedly.
…
What? What?!
At that moment, Shadow realized that once someone’s IQ dropped low enough, they no longer had the capacity to be manipulative.
“Sure!” Shadow quickly agreed and dragged the doctor out of the training room, as if afraid Yan Shuangfei would change her mind.
“Qinghan! You’ve been home these past few days and haven’t spent time with me. I’m so bored,” Yan Shuangfei said, clinging to Luo Qinghan’s arm.
“So you want to go out and have some fun?” Luo Qinghan immediately saw through her little plan.
“Mhm… Come with me?”
Lately, most of the important work had been wrapped up, so Luo Qinghan agreed happily.
“President Luo,” her assistant said hesitantly when he heard she was planning to go out the next day.
“Speak,” Luo Qinghan replied. She didn’t like people beating around the bush — though she made an exception for Yan Shuangfei’s sweet whining, which she actually enjoyed.
“The Han family has been harassing Luo Corporation more and more recently. We’ve caught people tailing your car several times already.”
The Han family again!
The assistant’s message was clear — going out now wasn’t safe. There was no guarantee the Han family wouldn’t break their previous agreement. Attacking Luo Corporation to pressure the Yan family was highly likely.
Luo Qinghan hesitated for a moment, then made up her mind. “Do as I said.”
Since childhood, if Luo Qinghan made a promise to Yan Shuangfei, she never broke it.
And this time would be no different.
