Scarred Hearts — A Girls' Love Tale - Chapter 38
Since she had already agreed to go out with Yan Shuangfei, Luo Qinghan wasn’t going to break her promise. But given her cautious nature and everything that had happened recently, she had to make thorough preparations before the trip.
Security was especially important. Every guard needed to be in place. Luo Qinghan looked at the schedule her assistant handed her and felt a headache coming on. These days, even a simple outing with Shuang’er was such a big deal.
That girl was probably still happily waiting at home, completely unaware. Luo Qinghan allowed herself a small smile.
“President Luo, Yan Shaoqiu from the Yan family just brought over three teams of guards,” the assistant reported carefully, watching Luo Qinghan’s expression. She had already seen what Luo Qinghan was capable of in the past few days. No matter how senior someone was at the Luo Corporation, if they dared to question her orders, they were swiftly dealt with—some were fired on the spot, and others mysteriously vanished. Everyone in the company knew what was going on but no one dared to say it out loud.
Luo Qinghan nodded calmly. “Accept them.” Then she turned to her assistant and added, “Replace everyone on this schedule with guards from the Yan family.”
The Yan family’s guards were far better trained than the Luo family’s. Although Yan Huaiyuan was still angry at Yan Shuangfei for being immature and irresponsible, she was still his granddaughter—the one he raised himself. There was no way he could truly abandon her. But he also couldn’t bring himself to talk to Luo Qinghan directly, so he expressed his concern in this roundabout way.
So stubborn, all of them, Luo Qinghan thought. But then again, wasn’t she the same?
Blinded by hatred, she missed the best chance to express her feelings because of hesitation. She truly loved Shuang’er, yet had treated her in the most extreme, painful way—as if punishing someone who had already given her everything.
Luckily, it wasn’t too late. Luo Qinghan was still grateful for that.
When she returned home, Yan Shuangfei was already waiting eagerly at the door. As soon as she saw Luo Qinghan walk in, she jumped into her arms with such force that she nearly knocked her over.
“Are you ready?” Luo Qinghan let her be, letting her act however she wanted. “We’ll head out this afternoon.”
“Okay!” Since losing her memory, Yan Shuangfei had completely changed. She was now super clingy—gone was the fierce, intimidating presence that used to make people tremble. She was fully devoted to being the perfect Luo family wife, even learning to cook from Ying Sha, determined to become a good wife and mother.
Luo Qinghan was pleased. At least she had something to keep her busy, which meant less chance of causing trouble out of boredom.
Walking side by side down the street, Luo Qinghan asked sincerely, “Wanna go shopping?” She figured shopping was something normal girls liked to do.
“Too tiring…” After a little walking, Yan Shuangfei already looked worn out and didn’t want to keep going.
“Fine,” Luo Qinghan gave in, raising her hands. “Let’s try something else.”
After trying a few things and getting nowhere, Luo Qinghan finally lost patience. “Just tell me—where do you really want to go?”
And so…
They stood at the entrance of an amusement park.
Luo Qinghan wanted to cover her face. Really, Shuang’er? This is what you wanted?
Yan Shuangfei was thrilled, buying tickets and looking around curiously. The bodyguards following behind them looked completely out of place among the crowd of kids.
“Qinghan, want to ride the roller coaster?” Yan Shuangfei handed her a giant vanilla ice cream while she happily ate her own chocolate one.
Luo Qinghan hadn’t eaten ice cream in ages. The cold dessert wasn’t her thing. She had tried it once during her period and ended up in terrible pain, which left a deep trauma.
Still, she couldn’t bring herself to reject Shuang’er’s sweet gesture—especially not with those hopeful eyes staring at her. So, she maintained her usual composure and took a small bite. Right away, she was met with Shuang’er’s bright, silly smile.
On the roller coaster, Yan Shuangfei chatted nonstop, excited. But as the ride slowly climbed to the top, her face quickly turned to panic.
Oh no, Luo Qinghan’s heart skipped a beat. I forgot she’s afraid of heights!
Sure enough, Shuangfei started screaming.
The wind roared in their ears, carrying her voice through the air. Luo Qinghan didn’t enjoy it either, but it wasn’t that terrifying to her. Eyes open, she watched the blurry scenery rush by.
She remembered stories of roller coaster accidents, people dying mid-ride. She glanced at Shuangfei, screaming with her eyes shut, her short hair flying wildly in the wind. Dying like this wouldn’t be the worst thing, Luo Qinghan thought.
She realized then—she really might be a bit of a freak. No, scratch that—she was a freak.
Still, as dark as her thoughts were, she had no intention of dying. No matter what, she had never reached the point of complete despair.
After the ride, Shuangfei was too weak to walk and had to lean on Luo Qinghan. Her face, already pale, now looked ghostly white. After just a few steps, she started dry heaving.
“You…” Luo Qinghan said helplessly, handing her a bottle of water and helping her sit on a nearby bench to rest.
“I’m never doing that again!” Shuangfei declared, drinking most of the water.
“Deal! Never again,” Luo Qinghan promised readily. “Wanna go home now?”
“Yes. People keep staring at me—it makes me uncomfortable.”
You couldn’t really blame them. Shuangfei was missing a finger—already eye-catching enough. On top of that, her body bore visible scars, especially the twisted, pale one across her neck. It was hard not to look.
Luo Qinghan quickly understood. Her face darkened slightly but she forced a smile. “Okay. Let’s go. Ignore them.”
Their hands intertwined. Luo Qinghan’s warm, gentle palm wrapped around Shuangfei’s always-cold hand. Shuangfei rarely smiled in the past, and even when she did, it was forced or bitter. Now, she could get excited over the smallest things. To Luo Qinghan, that was a blessing in disguise.
She thought, It would be nice if Shuang’er could stay like this forever.
Far away from all the power struggles, no longer burdened by ambition or fear.
If it’s just me working hard, it’ll be enough to give us a life of peace and luxury.
But that was only wishful thinking. Sooner or later, Shuang’er would remember everything and be dragged back into this cruel world.
