Scarred Hearts — A Girls' Love Tale - Chapter 43
Yan Shuangfei didn’t even wear shoes. She tiptoed silently to Ying Sha’s room. Ying Sha’s door was slightly ajar, with light spilling through the gap, casting a shadow on the floor. Yan Shuangfei gently pushed the door open, then carefully closed it behind her. Ying Sha and the doctor were sitting cross-legged on the floor. Seeing Yan Shuangfei, Ying Sha whispered, “If you get up like this in the middle of the night, won’t Luo Qinghan notice?”
“I’m sure she’s already asleep,” Yan Shuangfei said confidently. Ying Sha smiled, “Aren’t you afraid she’ll wake up in the middle of the night and get suspicious that you’re not by her side?”
“That’s possible,” Yan Shuangfei nodded thoughtfully, then smiled at Ying Sha. “But you have your wife, right? Help me make a fake medical report. Tell Qinghan that my brain injury causes sleepwalking—that’d be perfect.”
The doctor handed a weapon back to Yan Shuangfei, half-joking, “I really can’t tell such an unprofessional lie.”
Yan Shuangfei put on a bulletproof vest, threw on a coat, yawned, wiped a tear from the corner of her eye, checked her watch, and said to Ying Sha, “It’s 10:30 p.m. By Luo Qinghan’s usual routine, she’ll wake up at 7 a.m. sharp. We still have plenty of time.”
“Let’s go.” Ying Sha let the doctor fix her collar while speaking. Yan Shuangfei looked at her with envy. The doctor warned, “Be careful. Don’t just rely on your skills—there are too many people. No matter how strong you are, you can’t handle them all.”
“Got it.” Ying Sha stood up stiffly, then turned happily, her long hair swinging playfully again, making Yan Shuangfei envy her even more.
“Let’s go.” Yan Shuangfei squatted down to tie her shoelaces, then stood up straight.
They parked the car at the lot in front of Zhongting Clubhouse. Yan Shuangfei gripped the steering wheel, watching two attendants at the clubhouse entrance. The place was brightly lit and beautifully decorated. Ying Sha asked, “Have your people already taken positions inside?”
Yan Shuangfei nodded. “Of course. Once we get inside, we’ll activate electronic jammers to block all phone signals. Now we just wait for my team to take control of the surveillance room, then we move in.” Ying Sha pulled out two black ski masks, handed one to Yan Shuangfei, and put the other on herself.
“Robbers?” Yan Shuangfei chuckled. “Good idea. Let’s just pretend we’re robbing the place.” She put on her mask, and as they heard a voice through their earpieces, they exchanged a glance, grabbed their guns, and walked straight to the clubhouse entrance. Using the gun butts, they knocked out the two attendants.
Ying Sha fired a shot into the ceiling, and screams erupted everywhere. Her men scattered through the crowd, pulling out weapons and aiming at the panicked people.
“Quiet!” Yan Shuangfei’s voice suddenly changed—deep and rough, like a man’s. “I’ll count to three. Everyone down! If I see anyone still standing, don’t blame me if the bullets don’t have eyes.”
The crowd immediately quieted down. Yan Shuangfei contacted her team over the line: “How’s your situation?”
“Going well. We had a firefight earlier—several brothers wounded, but nothing serious. The second floor is under control. No one has moved on or off the third floor per your orders.”
“Well done,” Yan Shuangfei said, satisfied. Ying Sha warned the people on the first floor, “Keep a close watch on them. Don’t let anything go wrong.” Then she grabbed her gun and ran upstairs, with Yan Shuangfei right behind her.
They went straight to the third floor and instantly grew cautious. The lights were off; it was pitch black. Both wore night-vision goggles, carefully listening for any faint sounds. Yan Shuangfei was sure the person Ying Sha wanted to kill was on this floor. If Ying Sha was this cautious and asked for her help, sending her own men alone would be suicide. Yan Shuangfei didn’t want useless casualties.
Back to back, guns ready, they moved slowly and quietly, not making any noise. Their vision showed nothing but empty hallways.
They kept moving forward, but the hallway seemed endless. They walked for a long time without reaching the end.
Suddenly, bright, glaring lights flashed in front of them. Both knew trouble was coming. Despite their eyes hurting and temporary blindness, they dropped to the floor as a barrage of bullets zipped past, hitting the walls and making loud noises.
The time was enough for them to regain their posture. They stood and fired back. The man who had ambushed them held his gun, finger on the trigger, and sneered, “I didn’t expect Ying Sha to ask for backup. Surprising. Today, how about a fair fight to see whose gun is faster?”
“I think you’ll lose,” Yan Shuangfei said without lowering her gun, aiming at him. “You’re dead this time.”
“Ying Sha, is this how you treat old friends?” The man didn’t back down.
“I’ll do whatever it takes. We’ve spent enough time together—you should know me by now,” Ying Sha replied.
The man’s expression darkened. “For a woman, you’re willing to kill all your old comrades and friends?”
“Once you hid things from me and hurt her, we stopped being comrades or friends who shared life and death,” Ying Sha said firmly. “Shoot.”
The man’s face twisted strangely. As Ying Sha pulled the trigger, he suddenly dropped his weapon, letting Ying Sha’s bullet hit his forehead dead center.
Yan Shuangfei stared in surprise as the man collapsed lifelessly. Ying Sha’s face showed sadness. Yan Shuangfei asked, “What happened to him?”
Ying Sha interrupted, off-topic: “We used to give each other code names. Kuai Shou said he was good with guns, so he should have a name like hers—Quick Gun. He was so eager back then. Later, we called him Scope.” Ying Sha muttered to herself, crouching by the man’s body and looking at his face. There was relief in his features. Then she looked up and told Yan Shuangfei, “He liked me but also lied to me. I didn’t love him, but I treated him as a friend. I treated everyone involved as friends. But they all betrayed me—and ruined Chengzi’s life.”
Yan Shuangfei was silent, then reached out and helped Ying Sha up, patting her shoulder as comfort.
“Chengzi carries a burden in her heart. Even though she doesn’t say it, and told me to stop seeking revenge, I know she’s sad and hates that she can’t get justice. So, I’m doing it for her.” Ying Sha poured out her heart. Yan Shuangfei took her hand and led her away without looking back.
