Scarred Hearts — A Girls' Love Tale - Chapter 44
“Don’t rush, it’s still half an hour before seven,” Ying Sha comforted Yan Shuangfei. “There’s plenty of time.” The two of them had already returned to Ying Sha’s room. As soon as Ying Sha entered, she kicked off her shoes, then took off her coat, followed by her bulletproof vest, tossing all the clothes onto the bed in a neat arc.
The doctor stood by the window, arms crossed, silent and cold, watching Ying Sha return with a deliberately casual and relaxed expression, but worry was clear in her eyes.
Yan Shuangfei didn’t dare linger and quickly changed into her pajamas before slipping back to her own room.
Luckily, Luo Qinghan was still asleep. Yan Shuangfei let out a sigh of relief, gently lifted the covers, and lay down beside Luo Qinghan. Yan Shuangfei’s body was always cold no matter how much Luo Qinghan tried to warm her. In summer, she could be held coolly, and in winter, only Luo Qinghan didn’t mind letting her snuggle close as usual.
“Awake?” Luo Qinghan opened her eyes, turned, and wrapped her arms around Yan Shuangfei, her voice thick with sleepiness. “If you’re tired, just sleep a bit more.” Yan Shuangfei nuzzled softly against Luo Qinghan’s chest. She didn’t see the bloodshot eyes or the less warm body beneath Luo Qinghan’s clothes.
Luo Qinghan hadn’t slept all night. Since Yan Shuangfei left the room, she’d been sitting by the window in her pajamas, waiting all night. She wasn’t even sure why she was doing it — maybe waiting to confront Shuang’er when she returned?
But when she saw Ying Sha and Yan Shuangfei hurry back inside without any trouble, Luo Qinghan clenched her fists tightly.
So, Yan Shuangfei actually used my people.
Sneaking out late at night without anyone noticing wasn’t easy. The Luo family’s security system wasn’t a joke. It seemed only she was still in the dark, blindly believing the lie that Shuang’er had amnesia and wouldn’t recover anytime soon.
Luo Qinghan settled down and lay on the bed, ready to question Yan Shuangfei thoroughly when she returned, hoping to catch her in a lie right then and there.
But when she caught a glimpse of Yan Shuangfei cautiously approaching, her heart wavered. Shuang’er was lying to her to protect her, to keep her out of trouble. Maybe even Shuang’er didn’t realize it herself — unknowingly, Luo Qinghan had already gotten used to defending her, always looking for the good in things.
“Stay with me,” Yan Shuangfei rubbed her cheek against Luo Qinghan’s soft chest and pouted, “It’s the weekend. You can sleep in a little and keep me company.”
“Don’t move around!” Luo Qinghan lowered her hand from Yan Shuangfei’s back to lightly press on her tailbone through the clothes, a hint of meaning in her voice. Yan Shuangfei shivered, goosebumps rising, and immediately stayed still.
“That’s better.” Luo Qinghan smiled, pulling Yan Shuangfei closer. Both of them were exhausted from a sleepless night. Since they were both so tired, they might as well just sleep.
Luo Qinghan relaxed. After a whole night of activity, Yan Shuangfei quickly fell into even, steady breathing once her head hit the pillow.
She must be very tired. Luo Qinghan smiled softly. That was actually a good thing — at least she knew that even after regaining her memory, Shuang’er wouldn’t hate her. In this world, who else but Shuang’er could accept her like this?
If that’s the case, she didn’t want to know. She’d just pretend she didn’t.
When Yan Shuangfei and Luo Qinghan woke up and left the room, they ran into Ying Sha and the doctor coming out together. Unlike Yan Shuangfei and Luo Qinghan, who looked refreshed, Ying Sha and the doctor looked exhausted. Ying Sha’s eyelids were swollen, her eyes bloodshot, and there were obvious bruises on her neck.
In the past, Yan Shuangfei would have mercilessly teased Ying Sha for being the submissive one. But not now. She still had to pretend to be the innocent amnesiac girl. Still, a little probing was allowed.
“Xiao Xi has a lot of red spots on her neck,” Yan Shuangfei said seriously, unable to fake an innocent tone.
Ying Sha glared at her sharply. The doctor smiled gently at the two and took Ying Sha’s hand as they headed downstairs.
“Shuang’er, don’t mess around,” Luo Qinghan gently pushed Yan Shuangfei, and they followed downstairs.
After dinner, Yan Shuangfei went alone with Ying Sha to the training room. She claimed Ying Sha would teach her self-defense techniques. Luo Qinghan smiled helplessly and didn’t expose her, just nodded and agreed.
Watching Yan Shuangfei leave hand in hand with Ying Sha, Luo Qinghan relaxed against the chair, feeling an inexplicable sense of calm.
“Did you figure it out?” Suddenly, the doctor asked calmly, as if it was the most normal thing to say.
“You noticed before I did,” Luo Qinghan took a sip of tea, the steam blurring her face. “I’m her lover, but I was the last to know.” Her voice was full of loss and frustration.
The doctor smiled: “You’re overthinking. I’m a doctor — of course, I understand these things. I’m sure Xi’er knows too. As for the others?” The doctor tapped the table lightly, her smile deepening. “I remember the Yan family pulled some of their best men to protect Yan Shuangfei. Knowing your personality, Yan family’s best would be placed closest to her. So that means most of the security here are Yan family men. Yan Shuangfei is their leader; even if they knew, they wouldn’t dare do anything.”
Luo Qinghan sighed softly: “It’s fine if she’s lying to me. I’ll just pretend I didn’t notice, so she doesn’t have to try so hard.” She put down her cup and continued, “What worries me most now is the Han family. Before, when Han Yu wanted to marry me, I could guess his intentions. But now, they’ve sent so many people to spy, yet found nothing. The watchers only say more people are coming and going from the Han family, but they don’t know what’s really going on. If someone wanted to sneak into the Han family, who could do it so skillfully? Besides, I suspect the Han family’s showiness means they’re relying on something powerful — a strong weapon, a strong person — something that could change the course of a fight.”
The doctor leaned forward in a deliberately ambiguous pose, whispering into Luo Qinghan’s ear: “They’re plotting right now.”
Luo Qinghan was stunned but quickly snapped back, shaking her head firmly: “Too dangerous.”
