Scarred Hearts — A Girls' Love Tale - Chapter 47
Peeling away this layer of pretense only made the two of them seem even closer, more inseparable. They were much more relaxed but still careful, afraid of being noticed by outsiders.
“Tomorrow morning, I’m going to the Han family with Ying Sha,” Yan Shuangfei said, one arm wrapped around Luo Qinghan, her chin resting on her shoulder. Her other hand moved rhythmically, causing Luo Qinghan’s breathing to falter as she lay in Yan Shuangfei’s arms. Upon hearing those words, Luo Qinghan’s expression changed. She gripped Yan Shuangfei’s arm tightly, her fingertips digging into the skin. Feeling the tightening grip, Yan Shuangfei quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry, nothing will happen. Ying Sha will be there.”
Luo Qinghan’s breathing grew uneven. Suddenly, she bit Yan Shuangfei’s shoulder hard and hugged her tightly, trembling nonstop.
After the wave passed, the blush on Luo Qinghan’s face hadn’t completely faded. She glared at Yan Shuangfei and said, “Go to sleep!” Then, annoyed, she pulled the covers over her head and tossed Yan Shuangfei aside. Good-natured as always, Yan Shuangfei crawled back in and pulled Luo Qinghan into her arms.
Luo Qinghan, still groggy, felt the movement beside her and wanted to open her eyes, but due to last night’s “excessive exhaustion,” she couldn’t fully wake up. She felt someone kiss her forehead, then heard warm breath near her ear say something.
“I love you.”
What? Even in her haze, Luo Qinghan heard those words clearly but still doubted herself—maybe she was still dreaming. She pouted in displeasure and ignored it. Then a low chuckle came by her ear.
Yan Shuangfei gently tucked in the blanket, turned the doorknob, and walked out. Luo Qinghan faintly heard, “Yan Shuangfei, come back alive.”
Was that just her imagination?
“Can’t get out of the cozy bed?” Ying Sha teased. The two were changing clothes face to face, and he noticed the scattered marks on Yan Shuangfei’s body. “We’ll disguise ourselves as ordinary Han family security guards and sneak in.”
“Won’t I be recognized? Although I don’t usually show up much, what if something unexpected happens?” Yan Shuangfei asked as she put on her jacket.
“That’s not something a noble lady like you needs to know. We can do a simple disguise.” Ying Sha pulled out something and showed it. Then he turned around and said, “Close your eyes.”
Yan Shuangfei obeyed. Ying Sha continued, “This stuff has a downside—it melts if it gets too warm. Summer’s coming, so be careful.”
Yan Shuangfei opened her eyes and looked at her slightly changed reflection in the mirror, smiling, “Let’s hope Han Yu is generous enough to turn on the air conditioning now.”
Ying Sha sneered but didn’t answer.
They got in the car. The atmosphere was tense all the way. Yan Shuangfei’s expression was noticeably off. Ying Sha glanced at her, then while driving said, “Do you know how stupid you were before you recovered your memories?”
Yan Shuangfei’s tense nerves relaxed a bit, and her hand, which had been gripping the gun tightly, loosened as she shook her head.
“I remember your first month after waking up. You had your period and soaked the sheets with bl00d, crying you thought you were dying. In the end, it was Luo Qinghan who comforted you,” Ying Sha chuckled, noticing Yan Shuangfei’s face soften.
“Yeah, pretty dumb,” Yan Shuangfei laughed quietly.
“This is your first time on a mission like this, right?” Ying Sha’s voice was steady.
“Yes,” Yan Shuangfei nodded.
“Your family’s training is solid, but you mostly face direct conflicts with gangs. Unlike me, I’m used to going solo.” Ying Sha slammed the steering wheel hard and turned sharply. “Ever seen 007? We’re basically alone here. You don’t have many backup—just the two of us. No matter how skilled you are, you can’t hold off so many enemies alone. Be careful and decisive. That’s the lesson from all my years as an assassin.”
“Learn well.” Ying Sha patted Yan Shuangfei’s shoulder. “Once we’re inside, there’s a good chance we won’t come out.”
Compared to Ying Sha, Yan Shuangfei had much less real combat experience. Thanks to the Yan family’s support, she was used to face-to-face fights. Now, deep undercover with no backup, no one could be sure of surviving.
Only with Ying Sha’s help did Yan Shuangfei dare to take the risk. They both understood how dangerous this was.
“Have you ever had a serious gunshot wound before?” Ying Sha asked while checking their weapons.
“Yes,” Yan Shuangfei pointed to her chest. “When I was thirteen, I was caught in a firefight. A bullet went straight through my chest. At first, I didn’t feel pain, but soon I had trouble breathing and almost passed out.”
“Takes only a second to take a life. If you get hit like that inside, I won’t bother with you.” Ying Sha pressed the gun gently under Yan Shuangfei’s chin and whispered, “And I won’t care about myself either.” Then he crouched down and placed the gun by his shoe.
“You’re not a cold-blooded killer,” Yan Shuangfei said after a long silence. “If you were, you’d have killed that girl’s mother right in front of her.”
“I used to be,” Ying Sha said slowly. “If that girl annoyed me before, I wouldn’t hesitate to kill her.”
“Rather than say the training made you cruel, it’s more like you pretended to numb yourself. Everyone has feelings—you’re just pretending to be numb.” Yan Shuangfei pressed on, “Sure, you used to be a good assassin, but not anymore. Feelings made you weak.”
Ying Sha paused his movements and quietly said, “Who isn’t?” Then he stood up, expressionless, and said, “Looks like you’re fully in the zone now.”
“Of course,” Yan Shuangfei took a deep breath.
“So, what’s your plan?” Ying Sha asked. “Your grandfather must know you’ve regained your memories.”
“What can that change? I’ve been handling family affairs since I was Luo Xiao’s age. That’s her responsibility. I’ve given enough to the Yan family—I want to rest, who can stop me? Besides, I’ve made up my mind. No one can change it.”
Even him.
“Oh, by the way,” Yan Shuangfei called after Ying Sha, “If I die, tell Luo Qinghan… I love her.”
Ying Sha was stunned, then looked up and winked at her, answering off-topic, “Alright, follow me.”
