Scarred Hearts — A Girls' Love Tale - Chapter 51
“We actually don’t need to make things so complicated,” Yan Shuangfei said quietly to Ying Sha, tilting her head slightly. “Wouldn’t it be easier to just catch someone and interrogate them directly?”
“The problem is how to catch someone. This is their territory. If you interrogate someone here, won’t it cause a commotion?” Ying Sha lowered her voice, cautiously scanning their surroundings.
“But wandering around like headless flies isn’t a solution either,” Yan Shuangfei said, frustrated. “We need a plan.” Ying Sha said nothing but stopped walking, silently agreeing with Yan Shuangfei.
Right now, their priority was to quickly uncover Han Yu’s trump card. Both understood this clearly. What they needed was an opportunity—something to cause a disturbance, something to distract everyone’s attention.
“Let’s split up,” Ying Sha said. “I’ll draw their attention; you use the time wisely.”
“Don’t—” Yan Shuangfei began to protest, worried about Ying Sha’s health and the danger of being attacked. But Ying Sha interrupted her hurriedly, ignoring her words. “It’s decided. No dithering. We don’t have time to waste.”
Ying Sha opened Yan Shuangfei’s bag, hastily stuffing ammunition into her own coat pockets, then wrapped herself tightly and ran quickly in another direction.
Yan Shuangfei stayed still, holding her breath and alertly waiting for the chaos to begin. Soon enough, gunshots suddenly rang out, loud and chaotic, followed by shouting.
“She’s there!” someone yelled. Yan Shuangfei hid in the shadows, watching people rush about. Han Yu wasn’t here today; the person in charge seemed to be someone else. The entire floor’s security was mobilized. Yan Shuangfei silently counted down in her head, then saw a man blindly running toward the gunfire, holding a gun. Seizing the moment, she shot his lower leg. The man immediately fell, dropping the gun far away.
Yan Shuangfei quickly grabbed the weapon, then looped her hands under the man’s arms and dragged him into a corner. Without saying a word, she took out a syringe and injected him.
The man slowly regained consciousness from the temporary shock caused by the pain. He looked around, confused, realizing he had been injected with something, and instinctively looked for help.
“Shut up if you don’t want to die,” Yan Shuangfei said impatiently, her voice hoarse.
“What do you want?” The man was not stupid and quickly caught on, asking actively.
“To ask some questions,” Yan Shuangfei said, tired of beating around the bush and eager to save time to help Ying Sha escape.
“You’re an accomplice of the woman who caused the commotion,” the man clumsily tried to stall.
“Take care of yourself first. If you don’t talk, you’ll learn what pain this drug causes,” Yan Shuangfei said coldly. “And you will die.”
“I don’t want to die,” the man said, bl00d rushing through his body, heat rising, mind fuzzy. “But I’m not afraid of death either.”
“Han Yu can kill your family, so can I,” Yan Shuangfei crouched down, deftly pulling a photo from the inside of his clothes. “A family portrait, huh? So touching.”
The man looked carefully at Yan Shuangfei, then suddenly laughed. “I didn’t expect the head of the Yan family to be so hands-on, willing to personally risk this dangerous place. Everyone says the Yan family head is irresponsible. You play the role well.”
“They’re right,” Yan Shuangfei said irritably. “Help me, and I promise to keep this secret and protect your family. I can make a deal.”
“Sounds like I’m not losing out,” the man said with a bitter smile. “I only know the boss holds a large amount of concentrated uranium, but it’s not like the researchers here are studying it. He hid it overseas.”
“Where?” Yan Shuangfei pressed.
The man whispered the address. Yan Shuangfei nodded, knocked the man out with the butt of her gun, then left quickly.
“Xiaoxi! Are you okay?” Yan Shuangfei hurried over to Ying Sha.
“Not good,” Ying Sha gritted her teeth. Yan Shuangfei arrived just as Ying Sha was dodging pursuers and accidentally crashed into a window. The glass shattered instantly, and Ying Sha couldn’t stop herself, falling to the ground.
Yan Shuangfei checked Ying Sha’s back, finding countless shards of glass embedded in her skin. Bl00d spread quickly, staining her clothes red.
“This definitely isn’t bulletproof glass,” Ying Sha gritted her teeth. Yan Shuangfei tried to remove a large shard but gave up because Ying Sha kept trembling in pain.
“Let’s retreat,” Yan Shuangfei said. “We’ve gathered most of the information. Staying here longer is pointless. We won’t get any more answers.”
“Easier said than done. Have you figured out how to escape?” Ying Sha asked.
“No,” Yan Shuangfei answered honestly.
“Good thing I observed carefully. I knew you had no tricks. Follow me,” Ying Sha said, forcing herself despite the pain.
Ying Sha motioned for Yan Shuangfei to open a sealed door. Yan Shuangfei hesitated but did as tell. Looking inside, she gasped.
“It’s an elevator,” Yan Shuangfei whispered.
“Right, but it doesn’t stop on this floor. We’ll have to use this cable to get down,” Ying Sha said.
Yan Shuangfei shone her flashlight, biting it between her teeth. She grabbed the cable and cautiously lowered herself. Suddenly she realized Ying Sha wasn’t following.
“You’re slow,” Yan Shuangfei urged.
“My hand’s messed up, you know that” Ying Sha forced a smile. “Can’t hold on.”
Yan Shuangfei panicked, losing focus. Then she heard the elevator moving and suddenly understood. “You’re hopelessly stubborn. When the elevator reaches the top, you can jump down and probably won’t die. Maybe just break some bones. Holding the cable might soften the fall.”
After yelling to Ying Sha, Yan Shuangfei continued lowering herself to the elevator’s top. She pulled out her gun and fired randomly below. When it quieted down, she took a small flame torch from her bag and pried open the elevator ceiling. She jumped inside and pressed the button for the top floor.
After coordinating with Ying Sha through their radios, she saw Ying Sha timing it perfectly, sliding down the cable and falling heavily onto the elevator.
“Damn it,” Ying Sha’s voice was filled with pain, no relief at all. She looked at her left hand, fresh bl00d dripping to the floor. The friction had torn her palm raw.
“Let’s go to the basement level,” Ying Sha told Yan Shuangfei, leaning weakly against the elevator wall alone.
