Scarred Hearts — A Girls' Love Tale - Chapter 53
The sound of that slap echoed sharply, crisp in the air. Yan Shuangfei was still coyly nestled in Luo Qinghan’s arms when she heard it. She turned her head in surprise and got scared, shrinking quietly into Luo Qinghan’s embrace without saying a word.
Luo Qinghan was startled too, but seeing Yan Shuangfei’s frightened expression, he couldn’t help but smile. Sensing the situation was getting tense, he quickly pulled Yan Shuangfei away, leaving the doctor and Ying Sha alone to deal with their own mess.
Bl00d Blade had already sensed trouble and, seeing the doctor raise a hand, stepped on the gas and slipped away.
The doctor stared steadily at Ying Sha. Ying Sha’s injuries weren’t life-threatening yet, but if left untreated, they could be fatal. A faint flush appeared on Ying Sha’s pale face and deepened. She reached up to touch her cheek, feeling the skin was stiff and painfully burning.
“What are you showing off for if you’re hurt like this?” The doctor’s voice trembled, barely forming words. When she saw Ying Sha get out of the car covered in bl00d, she felt relief at first, but then overwhelming anxiety and anger followed. When Ying Sha stayed silent, the doctor got even angrier and kicked her hard in the calf, knocking her to her knees.
Ying Sha lay on the cold ground, too weak to get up. Her body curled up, the pain forcing her to make low, restrained groans mixed with sharp cries.
The doctor immediately became anxious, crouching down and reaching out to touch her. As her fingers grazed the skin on Ying Sha’s back, she gasped sharply—the sound of air and teeth scraping together escaping her lips. “Hey, are you okay?” The doctor’s tone was cold, as if Ying Sha’s life or death didn’t concern her.
“I’m sorry,” Ying Sha whispered, trying to say more but only managing those few words. “I made you worry.”
Hearing that, the doctor’s anger vanished. What was there to be mad about? Her harsh reaction came from worry and frustration—she hated how Ying Sha never took care of herself and always tried to be a hero. The doctor listened quietly, then suddenly scooped up the fallen Ying Sha and carried her back to the room without a word. Ying Sha obediently lay in her arms, faintly smelling the doctor’s cool scent, while the bl00d dripped steadily all the way.
Yan Shuangfei and Ying Sha had only been outside for a bit over a day, and they hadn’t been apart for long. Now the sky was starting to lighten. Ying Sha was dizzy from bl00d loss but still restless, nuzzling the doctor’s proud chest and mumbling in her sleep as the pain seemed to fade away.
This was bad. The doctor thought, putting her cold hand gently on Ying Sha’s forehead.
The moment her hand touched, the doctor felt a surprising heat. Ying Sha lay dazed in her arms, feeling a cool touch on her burning face that felt wonderful. She hummed softly. When the doctor pulled her hand away, Ying Sha pouted in dissatisfaction and shifted around, searching for that coolness.
“Don’t move,” the doctor whispered. Her arms and lap were sticky with bl00d that kept flowing from Ying Sha’s wounds. Although the bleeding had stopped while in the car, the doctor’s rough treatment had reopened some wounds.
“Hmm…” Surprisingly obedient, Ying Sha stayed still, curling into the doctor’s arms, carefully wrapping her arms around her and burying her head in the doctor’s chest. Her long black hair hung loosely, swaying gently as the doctor moved.
The doctor tenderly laid Ying Sha down on the bed, face down, and started a bl00d transfusion. Ying Sha’s veins were thin and hard to find, but the doctor skillfully found a spot quickly.
It hurt…
Ying Sha trembled slightly. The doctor leaned closer, checking carefully, and saw Ying Sha’s tired face break into a weak but relaxing smile.
“You’re so silly,” the doctor teased softly, picking up a small knife to cut away Ying Sha’s clothes. Some dried bl00d had stuck the fabric tightly, and parts of the cloth were even stuck to her skin.
The doctor dared not use anesthesia. Ying Sha had been forced into drug addiction before, and anesthesia would be like sending an alcoholic to a bar.
That was why the doctor was so afraid whenever Ying Sha got hurt. Drugs cause lifelong damage once touched.
Ying Sha rolled over and gave the doctor a silly smile. “It doesn’t hurt.”
The doctor smiled lightly. “You look just like Yan Shuangfei when she had amnesia.” But her eyes were clearly more red than before.
The doctor could stay calm when treating others and accept when she couldn’t save someone, but she feared treating the injuries of someone she loved.
She lifted her head, bit her lip, steadied herself, then slowly picked at the torn cloth stuck to Ying Sha’s back.
Ying Sha didn’t make a sound. The pain had made her fully alert. She bit the bedsheet as sweat dripped down her face. She didn’t dare move or cry out, afraid it would distract the doctor or make her worry.
“You okay?” The doctor finished bandaging the wounds and asked in a hoarse, nasal voice, like she had a bad cold.
“Very good.” Ying Sha forced a smile despite her back burning like fire. She stretched out her arms for a hug, a usual ritual. The doctor said nothing, silently granting her wish.
“I’m sleepy…” Ying Sha snuggled like a little kitten, rubbing against the doctor.
“Then sleep.” The doctor said softly.
“Hold me… don’t let go!” Ying Sha frowned. “And tell me a bedtime story.” The bad mood from earlier when getting out of the car was already forgotten. She and Yan Shuangfei shared one thing in common—they didn’t hold grudges. No overnight anger was essential to keeping their bond strong.
“What story?” The doctor was surprised she didn’t refuse. After helping Ying Sha change into pajamas, she lay down holding her, not afraid to touch the wounds. Dangerous moves like this were nothing new to them.
“Hmm…” Ying Sha thought for a moment. “Tell me about what you went through when I wasn’t around.”
The doctor fell silent, worried she might have said something wrong.
“You really want to hear it?” the doctor asked slowly.
“Yes,” Ying Sha answered firmly.
