Scumbag A's Plan to Save the Heroine - Chapter 19
Before the banquet officially began, there was always entertainment to liven the atmosphere. For this purpose, the Fu Family had invited some of the most popular celebrities of the day to perform.
Worried that Fu Jinxing might slip up, Zhi Qiu had just given him so many instructions that she was now utterly exhausted and had no desire to speak.
It wasn’t until she turned her head and recognized her friend approaching that her tense nerves finally relaxed slightly.
“What have you been doing? How did you get so tired?” Yuan Menglu asked softly as she followed the crowd, pushing the wheelchair forward.
Ever since Ruan Ye’s near-death experience, Zhi Qiu had devoted all her energy to pleasing Ruan Ye and helping her avoid her tragic fate of dying for love. It had been a long time since she had formally met with Yuan Menglu and had a proper conversation with her up close.
The thought of accidentally revealing her secret to Ren Yi because of the Truth System still weighed on her conscience. She wanted to confess, but she didn’t know where to begin.
The main problem was that at this point in time, Yuan Menglu hadn’t yet told her about her feelings for Ren Yi, and Zhi Qiu didn’t even know if Yuan Menglu had developed those feelings yet.
Since her rebirth, so many things had changed. Even as the Heaven-Sent Purple Star, she couldn’t possibly attend to every detail and ensure everything went perfectly.
Zhi Qiu sighed, her voice tinged with melancholy. “I’ve guided a fool and orchestrated a grand spectacle. Fu Jin Yan is about to face utter ruin. Just wait and see.”
Unaware of the complex calculations swirling in her friend’s mind, Yuan Menglu’s thinking remained simple. She wanted those she liked to prosper and those she disliked to suffer. Fu Jin Yan was firmly on her list of enemies, and she relished the thought of his downfall.
Dressed in deliberately plain attire for the occasion, the girl hurried forward, pushing the wheelchair with renewed vigor. “Then we’d better secure prime seats,” she said eagerly, “so we can enjoy the show up close.”
In truth, there was no need to rush. The Fu Family, renowned for their meticulous planning, had already assigned seating for each family before the banquet began. As prominent national clans, the Zhi and Yuan families were naturally placed in the front row—an excellent position adjacent to the hosts, offering both a clear view of the performances and an even better vantage point to witness the “grand spectacle” unfold.
Most guests had already taken their seats, making Yuan Menglu’s figure pushing the wheelchair particularly conspicuous in the spacious corridor of the outer pavilion.
The person in the wheelchair appeared utterly exhausted, their head drooping and supported by a hand. Occasionally, a gentle breeze would lift strands of the girl’s short, wispy hair, creating an aura of fragility—as if she might shatter with the slightest touch.
Some found the scene serene and beautiful, mistaking the person in the wheelchair for an injured Omega. They leaned in for a closer look, but their curiosity vanished with a single glance.
The person in the wheelchair was Zhi Qiu, the sole heir of the Zhi Family. A notoriously infamous Alpha, she was the epitome of a wastrel among the noble-born, possessing high-level pheromones that she never used for proper purposes, instead using them to torment Omegas.
Many gloated over the Zhi Family’s misfortune, while others lamented the waste of such talent on such a person, grieving the Federation’s loss of a potential asset.
The wheelchair gradually drew closer.
Zhi Qiu’s eyes were closed, yet she could hear every voice and feel every gaze. This wasn’t due to any special ability, but rather because…
A talkative System was chattering incessantly in her ear.
“Fourth from the right in the first row is Fu Jin Yan. Oh my, look at that glare! He absolutely loathes you. After you injured him so badly, it’s a miracle he even crawled out of the hospital. As the game’s villain, his stamina is truly superhuman! Hurry up and give him his final exit!”
“The guy next to Fu Jin Yan is his newly recognized younger brother. You just saw him, but you didn’t know. Oh my, he was so smug in front of his elder brother’s fiancée earlier, but now that the moment of truth has arrived, he can’t even sit still! This fidgeting just screams ‘I’m about to betray my own brother!’ Is it really necessary to be this nervous?”
“And this… and that… it’s killing me! This guy’s got to pee, but the person he’s talking to won’t let up. Your family’s business types are way too good at networking.”
“Shut up.”
The System wisely cut off its microphone. The incessant chatter vanished instantly, and the sliver of light leaking from behind the curtain illuminated Zhi Qiu’s raven-black lashes. She lowered her head slightly and said in a low voice, “Father.”
Zhi Ze’en glanced at his daughter’s injured leg and, remembering how she had been hurt, nodded coldly in acknowledgment.
The guests were seated, and the performance was about to begin.
From the moment Fu Jin Yan entered the theater, he felt uneasy, his heart heavy with dread. He initially attributed it to his lingering hatred for Zhi Qiu, but even after she took her seat, the feeling persisted, clinging to him like a persistent shadow.
This unease lingered throughout the entire performance.
The opening performance featured a renowned opera master, skilled in the ancient Earth opera traditions that had been lost for centuries. Dressed in a pink robe embroidered with lanterns and moons, he sang “The Purple Jade Hairpin.” His voice was melodious and resonant, lingering in the air long after the song ended. The audience erupted in applause and cheers, the applause lingering long after the final note.
Fu Jin Yan, his nerves taut, clapped twice before suddenly feeling a malevolent gaze. He turned to trace the source of the stare.
He saw his plastic brother, Fu Jinxing, sitting rigidly in a gray suit, his face still rapturous as he continued to applaud, as if still lost in the beauty of the music.
Fu Jin Yan withdrew his gaze, frowning slightly. He chided himself for being overly suspicious, seeing enemies everywhere.
After the opera performance, a series of pop stars took to the stage to sing. As the evening progressed, the banquet hall filled with a warm, convivial atmosphere. Even the tense Fu Jin Yan began to relax, allowing himself to enjoy the music.
Click.
The sound of a circuit breaker being flipped.
Just as the fourth performance concluded, the hall plunged into darkness, as if the guests had suddenly gone blind.
The once brightly lit, opulent hall was now pitch-black. Some timid, darkness-fearing Omegas screamed, and a wave of fear and disgruntled murmurs swept through the crowd.
“How could such a mistake happen at the Fu Family’s grand event!”
“Don’t worry, darling. I’m here. Hold my hand tight. The power will be back soon. What a letdown…”
“Ugh, typical nouveau riche—no class whatsoever!”
Fu Fu’s face darkened. He was a man obsessed with appearances, and this blunder at his own family’s banquet had turned his expression as grim as ancient, rotting wood. He roared at the servants, “What are you all doing? Find the cause of the outage immediately! Why are you standing around like fools? Do you think staring at the breaker will fix it?”
Amid the chaos, the large screen on the stage suddenly flickered to life.
A blinding white light pulsed across the massive screen, forcing everyone to focus their attention on this single point of illumination.
A rapid succession of explicit, lewd, and filthy photographs flashed across the screen, accompanied by desperate, pleading voices. The images exploded through the crowd like a nuclear blast, igniting the room in an instant.
A stranger stood before the screen, his voice cracking with anguish as he sobbed and screamed at a bewildered man in the audience, “Fu Jin Yan, give me back my innocence!”
