Chapter 48: Shengsheng is Her Daughter—No One Can Take Her Away
Yu Mushan immediately ordered Zhang Tao to call over the logistics supervisor and the cleaning lady.
Bai Chu frowned tightly and watched the surveillance footage over and over.
“Director Yu,” she said seriously. “This footage has been tampered with.”
“There’s footage of the cleaner entering, but the exit footage has been spliced together.” Bai Chu’s eyes were locked onto the screen, and her hand at her side was clenched so tightly it had turned pale.
“You mean Shengsheng was taken away by that cleaning lady?” Yu Mushan’s voice trembled.
“Seal off all the exits immediately and ask security if anyone saw the cleaner,” Bai Chu said, standing up, her voice edged with panic.
Yu Mushan gave the order that no one was to leave the building. But a guard at the back exit reported that the cleaner had pushed out a trash bin half an hour earlier.
The moment Bai Chu heard this, she rushed out with Yu Mushan and Zhang Tao in a car to search.
Yu Mushan had already called the police, and officers were reviewing footage at the station while the rest of the company was mobilized to search for Jiang Yisheng across different routes.
Bai Chu gripped the steering wheel tightly. The police found footage of the cleaner pushing the trash bin into a truck. The truck left via the main road and turned into Zhong Street.
Bai Chu clenched her jaw and pressed harder on the gas. Bl00d vessels had started to show in her eyes.
Zhang Tao was on the phone with the police, while Yu Mushan clutched her butterfly knife with trembling hands.
The truck exited Zhong Street and turned into a gated villa community.
It was an abandoned development with poor surveillance infrastructure, so the police couldn’t trace which villa the truck had entered after it got in.
Yu Mushan deployed all available vehicles to search within the villa complex.
They checked the houses one by one. Two hours had passed since Jiang Yisheng had gone missing.
At that moment, Jiang Hang, who had been at a meeting elsewhere, finally rushed back. Upon seeing him, Yu Mushan broke down, tears spilling from her eyes.
“Old Jiang…” she looked at him deeply, eyes filled with helplessness and fear.
Jiang Hang’s brows were tightly knit as he held her hand firmly. Though he was just as afraid, he still tried to reassure her.
“Our daughter will be fine.”
“Was it them?” Yu Mushan’s voice quivered.
Just as Bai Chu was about to ask who “they” were, Zhang Tao’s call on speaker suddenly crackled: “We’ve found a locked villa. There are lights inside.”
The moment they heard that, everyone rushed over. Bai Chu didn’t even wait for the car to stop before jumping out and helping to break the lock.
Though the villa was old, the door had recently been replaced with a coded lock. Several people worked together and finally broke the lock and pushed the door open.
Sure enough, sitting in the center of the living room was a woman in a cleaner’s uniform, around fifty years old, with heavy eye bags and dark circles. Her face looked exhausted.
Even as so many people burst in, the woman didn’t flinch. Instead, she wore a faint, eerie smile.
The bodyguards sent by Yu Mushan stormed inside to search for Jiang Yisheng.
“So many guests here to congratulate my precious son,” the woman said, brushing her hair back with a cold smile.
“Where is Jiang Yisheng?” Bai Chu strode forward and grabbed her collar, yelling.
The woman didn’t resist, just tilted her head and stared at Bai Chu’s face with lifeless curiosity.
“Who are you? Why do you care so much about my daughter?” The woman’s face reddened from Bai Chu’s grip, but she still smiled, sending chills down everyone’s spine.
Bl00d began to seep through the bandage on Bai Chu’s right hand.
“Your daughter?” Bai Chu froze.
“You b1tch, where did you take my daughter?” Yu Mushan rushed over and grabbed the woman’s neck, pressing the butterfly knife against her artery.
The woman’s expression turned playful. Tilting her head back, veins bulging, she rasped, “She’s your daughter?”
At those words, Yu Mushan’s grip tightened. The woman began to choke, her face turning red.
Jiang Hang quickly pulled Yu Mushan back. “Shanshan, don’t act rashly. If she dies and we can’t find Shengsheng, what then?”
Yu Mushan glared at the woman but eventually loosened her grip.
The woman coughed violently, gasping for air. She gripped the chair to steady herself, then turned toward Yu Mushan and laughed maniacally.
“Yu Mushan, look at you now,” the woman sneered, slowly rising and stepping forward.
Jiang Hang moved to block her, eyes full of caution.
The surrounding bodyguards encircled the woman, ready to act on command.
“Wang Shan, I’ve treated you kindly. Why do you keep targeting my daughter?” Yu Mushan glared at her.
“I told you! She’s not your daughter,” the woman suddenly screamed, her voice hoarse and wild. “She’s my biological daughter. What does she have to do with you?”
She shoved Yu Mushan hard.
Jiang Hang immediately struck Wang Shan in the throat, shielding Yu Mushan behind him.
Wang Shan stumbled back and sat on the floor, clutching her throat with a pained expression.
Raising her bloodshot eyes, she cried, “I just want my daughter back! What did I do wrong?
“When I came to your company, you drove me away. I secretly followed her, and you increased her security. Now I’ve finally taken her back myself, and you want to take her again?
“You people are ruthless!”
“It was you who abandoned Shengsheng,” Yu Mushan shouted, her eyes red. “You said if your parents found out you were pregnant out of wedlock, they’d kill you. You abandoned her for years, and now you have the nerve to call yourself her mother?”
Years ago, when Yu Mushan had just started dating Jiang Hang, her college roommate Wang Shan called her from the hospital.
Yu Mushan dropped everything and rushed over, only to find Wang Shan had already given birth. At first, Yu Mushan was happy for her.
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” she asked, sitting beside her.
Wang Shan replied, “My boyfriend broke up with me. I couldn’t keep the baby. If my parents find out, they’ll kill me. I need you to help deal with the child and keep this secret.”
Though Yu Mushan had meetings that night, she stayed and sent Jiang Hang in her place.
The next morning, Wang Shan was gone, leaving only a letter.
In the letter, she begged Yu Mushan to take care of the child however she saw fit, apologizing and promising to repay her someday.
Yu Mushan was at a loss. She asked the nurse to make some formula and planned to take the child to an orphanage after feeding her.
The baby smiled and reached for Yu Mushan while feeding. At the orphanage gate, the child suddenly cried and clutched Yu Mushan’s shirt.
Yu Mushan melted and turned back. From that moment on, she became the baby’s mother.
But just a year ago, when Jiang Yisheng turned twenty-five, Wang Shan showed up again, saying she wanted her daughter back to “reunite with her birth family.”
Yu Mushan refused and transferred her a large sum of money, demanding she never appear again.
But six months later, Wang Shan stormed the company, demanding to see Jiang Yisheng.
Thankfully, Yu Mushan intercepted her just in time.
She didn’t know what Wang Shan was up to, but one thing was certain—Shengsheng was her daughter, and no one could take her.
“Yes, I wronged my own daughter,” Wang Shan said, eyes red, “but that doesn’t give you the right to keep her. I asked you to deal with her, not to keep her as your own.”
“You heartless monster,” Yu Mushan shouted.
“But now I regret it. I need her back. She belongs with her birth mother, not with someone who has no bl00d ties,” Wang Shan said, struggling to her feet.
“What do you want?” Yu Mushan knew this woman didn’t truly love Yisheng. “If it’s money, I’ll give you whatever you want. Just let her go.”
“Money?” Wang Shan echoed, then laughed maniacally, tears streaming from her eyes.
“Thanks to you, my son’s surgery fees are covered,” she sneered, glancing at her watch with satisfaction. “Now we just need a suitable heart donor.”
“You b1tch!” Yu Mushan trembled with rage, veins bulging on her forehead.
Jiang Hang let go of Yu Mushan’s arm and stormed forward, grabbing Wang Shan’s hair and punching her in the face.
“Where is my daughter? Where are you hiding her?!”
Bl00d oozed from Wang Shan’s mouth as she tilted her head back, grinning. “If you’re capable, find her. If you’re not, she’ll become the sacrifice for my son’s recovery.”
“Search! Mobilize everyone!” Jiang Hang’s desperate cry echoed through the villa.
Bai Chu’s nails dug deep into her palm. She narrowed her eyes as she observed the woman’s expression.
Then suddenly, Bai Chu’s eyes widened—she turned and bolted out of the villa.
