Chapter 51: Don’t Call Her Director Yu, Call Her Auntie
When the car pulled up to Jiang Yisheng’s parents’ home, Bai Chu got out to walk Jiang Yisheng inside, then stood at the doorway.
“There’s a scratch on your wrist. Don’t forget to disinfect it,” Bai Chu reminded her gently as she looked at the injury.
Jiang Yisheng nodded obediently, just about to respond.
“Xiao Bai, why don’t you stay here tonight?” Yu Mushan looked warmly at Bai Chu, who was still standing at the door.
Bai Chu froze for a second and glanced over at Jiang Yisheng.
Jiang Yisheng’s eyes were watery, full of reluctance.
Seeing that, Bai Chu’s heart softened. She turned back to Yu Mushan and nodded. “Alright, then I’ll trouble you, Director Yu.”
“There’s no need to be so polite.”
Jiang Yisheng led Bai Chu upstairs to her room. The moment they sat down, a knock came at the door.
Bai Chu got up to open it.
Yu Mushan entered, carrying a medical kit in her hand.
“Hope I’m not disturbing you two—I brought medicine,” Yu Mushan said, worried she might be interrupting the young couple’s alone time.
“Of course not.” Bai Chu stepped aside to let her in.
She gently closed the door behind her and was about to sit on the small sofa nearby to make it easier for Yu Mushan to tend to Jiang Yisheng’s wound.
But just as she turned, she found Yu Mushan putting the medical kit on the floor, turning to look directly at her.
A flicker of confusion passed through Bai Chu’s eyes.
“Come sit here,” Yu Mushan beckoned her over.
Bai Chu hesitated briefly before walking quickly back to the bedside.
Yu Mushan gently pressed on her shoulder to help her sit down.
“Yisheng’s injury isn’t serious. Let Auntie treat you first,” Yu Mushan said as she knelt down and opened the medical kit.
“I don’t want to trouble you, Director Yu. I can handle it myself later…” Bai Chu began to decline politely.
Before she could finish, Yu Mushan took her hand and firmly guided her to sit on the edge of the bed again.
“Be good.”
Hearing that, Bai Chu instantly became docile. She sat stiffly, her hands resting on her knees.
Yu Mushan gently unwrapped the bl00d-soaked gauze from Bai Chu’s hand and saw the faintly torn wound beneath.
She frowned slightly but didn’t ask how the injury happened. Instead, she silently began cleaning and disinfecting the wound.
The room was very quiet. Jiang Yisheng leaned against Bai Chu’s shoulder, watching Yu Mushan’s careful movements, while Bai Chu lowered her gaze to the top of Yu Mushan’s head.
Yu Mushan’s touch was very gentle, as if she were afraid of hurting her.
While wrapping the gauze, Yu Mushan reminded her, “Don’t get it wet and don’t lift anything heavy for a while.”
Bai Chu nodded and thanked her softly. “Thank you, Director Yu.”
Yu Mushan finished tying the end of the bandage and looked up at her. “Still calling me Director Yu?”
Her eyes sparkled with amusement.
Bai Chu’s other hand clenched slightly, a hint of panic in her eyes.
Jiang Yisheng understood and let out a laugh.
She nudged Bai Chu’s shoulder and whispered, “Call her Auntie.”
Bai Chu’s face turned red instantly, and she lowered her head, swallowing nervously.
Yu Mushan chuckled lightly and stayed crouched, waiting patiently, curious to see if Bai Chu would actually say it.
“…Auntie.” After a long pause, a barely audible voice came out, the final syllable sounding awkward and shy.
Yu Mushan heard what she’d been waiting for, stood up, and gently patted Bai Chu’s head.
“Now, let Auntie take care of the wound on your neck too.”
After everything that happened today, Yu Mushan had truly accepted Bai Chu as part of the family.
She admitted that after Jiang Yisheng and Bai Chu got together, she had investigated Bai Chu and learned about her past. She could easily imagine the hardships the girl had endured growing up.
This girl always spoke with such formality and distance, but in Yu Mushan’s eyes, she was still just a child. Her pride and self-protection were clear to see.
After tending to the wounds on both Bai Chu’s neck and Jiang Yisheng’s wrist, Yu Mushan quickly packed up to leave.
When she stood up, Bai Chu also stood and picked up the medical kit, walking her to the door.
“You should rest early too… Auntie.” Bai Chu called out to her again, then looked up at Yu Mushan, like a child unsure if she’d done something wrong, trying again hesitantly, “Auntie.”
“You two as well. Good night.” Yu Mushan smiled and waved at her before leaving the room.
Jiang Yisheng and Bai Chu washed up and lay down in bed. Jiang Yisheng curled into Bai Chu’s arms, twirling a lock of her hair between her fingers.
“A lot happened today,” Jiang Yisheng sighed.
Bai Chu hummed in agreement, capturing her hand and placing it on her chest.
Jiang Yisheng looked up at her profile.
If she really had to leave forever today, the one thing she’d miss the most would be Bai Chu.
She didn’t know if her sudden appearance and the feelings she had for Bai Chu would somehow alter her fate.
“Bai Chu.”
“If one day I’m really gone, what would you do?” Jiang Yisheng asked nervously.
As expected, Bai Chu frowned and tightened her grip on Jiang Yisheng’s hand, looking down at her.
“You promised you wouldn’t leave me,” she said with a trace of grievance in her eyes.
Jiang Yisheng’s heart clenched at the sight.
“I was just saying ‘what if.’” She quickly tried to brush it off.
“There is no ‘what if,’” Bai Chu said firmly, her gaze unwavering.
Jiang Yisheng’s nose tingled. She tilted her head and gently kissed Bai Chu’s lips.
Bai Chu didn’t close her eyes, only lowered them to watch Jiang Yisheng.
She would not allow her to leave.
Jiang Yisheng kissed her for a while before slowly pulling back. When she opened her eyes, she met Bai Chu’s gaze, filled with tenderness.
She wanted to reach up and touch her face, but Bai Chu was holding her hand too tightly—she couldn’t move it.
So she rubbed the tip of her nose against Bai Chu’s instead.
“What happened during the contract signing yesterday? You still haven’t told me,” Jiang Yisheng asked playfully as she nestled into her.
“The company already planned to transfer my position. Yesterday at the KTV wasn’t for signing anything. They’re in debt and wanted to use me to pay it off,” Bai Chu said flatly.
Jiang Yisheng was furious. “Those bastards! Using you when they need you, then tossing you aside!”
Bai Chu pulled her closer and patted her back, trying to calm her down.
“How did you get hurt?” Jiang Yisheng kissed along her jawline as she asked.
“There was a woman in the room who tried to take me away. I broke a wine bottle and held it to my neck to get out,” Bai Chu replied simply.
Jiang Yisheng was even more furious. She pulled out of Bai Chu’s embrace and sat up.
“Who was it? How dare she hurt you, I’m going to—” Before she could finish, Bai Chu pressed a hand over her mouth.
“Keep your voice down. Uncle and Auntie are sleeping,” she said, gently smoothing Jiang Yisheng’s hair, trying to calm her.
Jiang Yisheng’s chest heaved with anger. She was determined to have Zhang Tao find that woman and make her pay.
“Yisheng,” Bai Chu pulled her back into her arms, her voice suddenly weak.
“I lost my parents when I was seven. I just want to know how they died… but why is even that so hard?”
Her eyes were filled with confusion and helplessness.
“I found out they died in an accident, but that woman yesterday said their deaths were suspicious.”
“Who should I believe?” Bai Chu stared at the ceiling, her eyes glistening with tears.
Jiang Yisheng’s heart ached. She leaned in and embraced her tightly.
She didn’t know what to say, so she simply patted her shoulder in silent comfort.
The two fell asleep in each other’s arms…
That night, Jiang Yisheng had a dream.
In the dream, because she had read the novel ahead of time and knew everything that would happen, people called her the Prophet.
Everyone in that world treated her like a star, bringing lavish gifts every time they came to seek her advice.
“Prophet, can you tell me when I’ll pass the civil service exam?” asked a girl with thick glasses.
Jiang Yisheng casually pinched her knuckles like she was calculating. “Next year’s provincial exam, apply for the Jiangcheng tax bureau—you’ll get in for sure.”
“Thank you, Prophet! Thank you so much!” The girl bowed deeply.
“Prophet, when will I get rich?” asked a man in a suit, setting two boxes of wine in front of her.
“Stick to your current job, then quit and start your own business in five years. You’ll make it big,” Jiang Yisheng said without thinking.
“Five years? That long?” The man frowned.
“What, don’t want to get rich?” She looked up at him.
“Yes! Of course I do. Thank you, Prophet!” He quickly bowed and left.
“Prophet, can you tell me when my child will recover?” a weary-looking woman asked, clutching a crumpled wad of cash and holding a child in her arms.
Jiang Yisheng glanced at the child. The book said he wouldn’t live past next year.
But when she saw the hope in the mother’s eyes, she couldn’t bring herself to extinguish it.
“As long as he’s happy, the illness will fade. He’ll recover. Just hold on to hope,” Jiang Yisheng said softly.
The woman was overjoyed and tried to force the money into her hands.
Jiang Yisheng gently pushed it back. “Use it to buy some good food for you and the child.”
Tears welled in the woman’s eyes as she bowed deeply.
“Prophet, is my wife pregnant with a boy or a girl?” asked a man nervously.
“What do you want—boy or girl?” Jiang Yisheng asked impatiently.
“Of course a boy, I…”
“Take him away.” She waved a hand, and people rushed in to drag him out.
“Next.”
But no one came.
“Next…” Jiang Yisheng started to call out again, then suddenly looked down and saw a little girl, barely tall enough to see over the table, holding a pink hair clip and looking up at her.
“What would you like to ask, little one?” she asked kindly.
“Prophet Sister, this is for you.” The girl handed her the clip.
“Thank you, it’s beautiful.” Jiang Yisheng smiled and patted her head.
“Prophet Sister, can you tell me why there was such a big fire at my house?” the girl asked with wide, innocent eyes.
Jiang Yisheng finally recognized her. She clutched the clip tightly, momentarily speechless.
The girl was still waiting patiently.
Suddenly, Jiang Yisheng smiled and came out from behind the table. She knelt and placed the clip in the girl’s hair.
“Little one, what did you call me just now?” she asked as she held the girl close.
“Prophet Sister,” the girl repeated.
“That’s right. I’m the Prophet Sister. I only know about the future,” she said, gently pinching her cheek. “And I know your future will be filled with happiness. Everything you wish for will come true, and you’ll be loved by many people.”
“Let me tell you a secret.” She leaned in and whispered.
“You’ll be the happiest girl in the whole world—the happiest. No exceptions.”
“Really?” The girl’s eyes sparkled.
“Of course.” Jiang Yisheng nodded. Then she added thoughtfully, “As long as you live well and love yourself, it’ll all come true.”
The girl seemed to understand and nodded slowly…
