Chapter 62: Red Marks
Early the next morning, Jiang Yisheng woke up in Bai Chu’s arms, recalling the way Bai Chu whispered sweet nothings in her ear last night.
Her heart instantly softened, and she smiled, pressing her lips together as she looked up at Bai Chu’s sleeping face.
Bai Chu was still asleep, her breathing even, and her eyelashes occasionally fluttered.
Jiang Yisheng tilted her head up and kissed Bai Chu’s lips.
The next second, she felt a hand around her waist, pulling her body closer.
Jiang Yisheng gasped in surprise.
“When did you wake up?” Her hand rested on Bai Chu’s exposed shoulder, lightly tapping it with her finger.
“Just now,” Bai Chu replied, her hand slowly sliding upward.
Jiang Yisheng gave a light cough and playfully swatted Bai Chu’s hand under the blanket.
Bai Chu didn’t get handsy; she merely let her hand rest gently on Jiang Yisheng’s back.
“What time is it?” Jiang Yisheng glanced at the curtain—the sunlight didn’t look like early morning light.
Bai Chu checked her phone. “It’s past ten.”
Jiang Yisheng’s eyes widened. “Past ten?!”
She had asked Zhang Tao to pick them up at 8 a.m. yesterday—uh-oh, Peachy must be freaking out.
She frantically searched under her pillow.
“Your phone was on silent. Zhang Tao couldn’t find you and ended up calling me,” Bai Chu said, pulling Jiang Yisheng’s phone from her side. “She’s probably downstairs waiting in the car now.”
Jiang Yisheng turned on her phone and saw over ten WeChat messages and two or three missed calls.
Embarrassed, she messaged Zhang Tao back:
“Just woke up.”
She added a guilty-looking emoji.
Half an hour later, Jiang Yisheng and Bai Chu had finally gotten ready and were in the car.
Jiang Yisheng handed Zhang Tao a thermal food bag.
“You two haven’t eaten, right? Brought breakfast for you and Brother Zhang.”
Zhang Tao turned around to take it, smiling brightly. “Thank you, Jiang—President…”
Before she could finish, her eyes widened slightly with surprise, though she quickly masked it.
Jiang Yisheng had been too tired last night, and after rushing to get ready this morning, she was now feeling sore and achy.
She leaned against Bai Chu’s shoulder and dozed off, while Bai Chu covered her with a blanket and quietly read documents on her phone.
By the time they arrived at the hotel, it was already afternoon. After unpacking, the group went to the restaurant to eat.
Zhang Tao had reserved both a private room and a large dining hall table. The private room was for Jiang Yisheng and Bai Chu.
The restaurant was located on a hillside. Jiang Yisheng turned her head and could see the ocean through the window.
“So beautiful,” she sighed in admiration.
Bai Chu followed her gaze and was stunned by the view as well.
The sun was already setting, casting a reddish glow that made half the sky look ablaze.
The tide was slowly retreating, and the ocean sparkled as it stretched the sunlight across its surface.
Bai Chu withdrew her gaze and began sterilizing the utensils for them.
When she looked up again, she noticed the red mark on Jiang Yisheng’s neck.
Her eyes widened slightly. Was that from last night? She didn’t even remember doing that.
Today, Jiang Yisheng was wearing a green dress with a low neckline. Coupled with her fair skin, the red mark stood out clearly.
Sensing Bai Chu’s silence, Jiang Yisheng turned to look.
Just in time to catch her gaze.
“Why are your ears red?” Jiang Yisheng asked in confusion.
Bai Chu was at a loss for words. Jiang Yisheng asking that only made her even more flustered.
“Your… neck…” Bai Chu stammered.
Jiang Yisheng pulled a small mirror from her bag and checked.
In just a second, she saw the red mark too.
Her face also turned a light shade of pink, though she handled it far better than Bai Chu.
She slowly put the mirror away. “That’s one strike against you.”
Knowing she was at fault, Bai Chu kept her head down and continued sterilizing the utensils.
After the meal, Bai Chu gave Jiang Yisheng her jacket, and the two of them took a stroll along the beach.
Their fingers were interlocked as they walked through the soft sand under the setting sun.
Jiang Yisheng took a deep breath, feeling overwhelmed with happiness. She bounced over and leaned into Bai Chu’s arms.
Bai Chu wrapped one arm around her waist and used the other to gently fix her wind-blown hair.
The golden sunlight lit up Bai Chu’s face, making her cheeks glow. Jiang Yisheng rose on her tiptoes, gazing at her red lips.
Bai Chu curled her lips into a smile and lowered her head to gently kiss Jiang Yisheng.
Not far away, Zhang Tao and the bodyguard quickly turned away, pretending to be busy.
With people walking past, Bai Chu only gave a light peck.
Jiang Yisheng, satisfied, playfully pinched her ear and continued walking with her, side by side.
“The vendor up ahead is the same uncle who helped me make that bracelet last time. Come on, let’s say hi.” Jiang Yisheng excitedly tugged Bai Chu forward.
This time, the vendor’s stall had not only bracelets but also a few framed paintings.
“Long time no see, boss!” Jiang Yisheng waved enthusiastically at him.
The vendor looked up, adjusting his glasses.
When he saw who it was, he broke into a smile.
“Back at the beach again?” he asked Jiang Yisheng, though his eyes flicked between her and Bai Chu.
Finally, his gaze settled on the bracelet on Bai Chu’s left wrist.
Jiang Yisheng naturally noticed. She proudly lifted Bai Chu’s hand and showed it off.
“Let me introduce you—this is my girlfriend,” she said with sparkling eyes.
Bai Chu nodded at the vendor with a shy smile. “Hello.”
The vendor smiled at her warmly, his eyes full of kindness.
“Fate really works in mysterious ways,” he said suddenly.
“I remember when I made this bracelet, you and your friend came by and asked about the price,” he added, clearly recognizing Bai Chu.
Bai Chu’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Really?” Jiang Yisheng was even more surprised.
She swung Bai Chu’s hand excitedly and tilted her head. “So you liked this bracelet even before I gave it to you?”
Facing her childlike, innocent gaze, even though she felt shy, Bai Chu couldn’t help but nod. “Yeah.”
Jiang Yisheng was overjoyed. She had such good taste! They really were meant to be!
The vendor pulled out a new sheet of paper and looked at them. “While it’s still light out, let me draw a portrait of you two—on the house.”
Jiang Yisheng looked eagerly at Bai Chu, eyes full of anticipation.
Bai Chu smiled and nodded.
With her approval, Jiang Yisheng turned to the vendor. “Sure!”
The two of them sat on the chairs across from the stall, with the sunset at their backs. Jiang Yisheng leaned her whole body toward Bai Chu, fingers interlaced tightly, as if she wanted to sit in her lap.
“How long will it take, boss?” Jiang Yisheng asked, unsure if she could hold this pose for long.
“One year.”
“What?” Jiang Yisheng thought she misheard.
“One year,” the vendor repeated.
As they spoke, everything around them suddenly changed.
Jiang Yisheng blinked. Everyone was gone—only the vendor remained across from her.
“Bai Chu?” Jiang Yisheng stood up abruptly, frantically looking around.
“Xiao Jiang, remember me?” the vendor said, continuing to draw as if nothing had happened.
