Seduced Me into a Deep Fall (GL , ABO) - Chapter 4
“I’m not…” Ling Xi started to deny, but Song Yi’s tears fell even harder. She had indeed left her embrace, yet somehow produced a tissue and began earnestly wiping her own tears.
But judging by her movements, she was already too drunk to distinguish between her eyes and eyebrows.
“Look at your hand,” Song Yi said, wiping her eyebrows while glancing casually at Ling Xi’s hand.
“You’re still wearing the ring I gave you. How can you say you don’t know me?”
Ling Xi sighed helplessly. She had forgotten she was wearing such a nuisance and hadn’t bothered to take it off.
Nor could she remove it now in front of Song Yi.
Before she could respond, the police officers in the front seat chimed in teasingly.
“Hey, little girl, you were so desperate to save your wife earlier. How come you’re denying it now? Or are you just shy in front of outsiders?”
The officer driving also spoke up. “Couples should be honest with each other. Your partner must have it rough, huh? Alphas should be more considerate. Don’t be like me, ah, too much to say, too many regrets.”
Clearly, this alpha sister had her own share of stories.
“…” Ling Xi was defeated by their teasing.
She was thin-skinned, and with the ring on her finger, it wasn’t easy to explain things to outsiders.
Reluctantly, she took the tissue from Song Yi and reached to wipe her tears.
But Song Yi turned her head away, lifting her chin defiantly, refusing to let her touch her. “I don’t want you to wipe them.”
“Weren’t you just calling me ‘darling’?” Ling Xi couldn’t help but twitch her lips.
Honestly, why was she arguing with a drunk? It was better to just go along with Song Yi’s whims.
If she crossed any lines, she could explain it after Song Yi sobered up.
At worst, she’d go from offending one member of the Song family to two.
What was one more debt when she already had so many?
“That was earlier. You don’t want me,” Song Yi muttered pitifully, her teary eyes hazy as she cast a sidelong glance at Ling Xi, three parts accusation in her gaze.
The car lights reflected in her eyes, forming shimmering halos that made Ling Xi pause.
With such mesmerizing eyes, it was no wonder Song Yi never lacked suitors, even though she was known for her cold, ruthless demeanor, her aloofness, and the ascetic Buddhist beads she wore. A whole building wouldn’t be enough to hold them all.
Ling Xi’s daze, however, wasn’t because of Song Yi’s beauty.
After being hurt by Mu Xie in her past life, Ling Xi had sworn off romance, focusing only on survival.
It was just that Song Yi’s expression looked familiar.
Especially those tear-filled phoenix eyes.
She felt like she’d seen them somewhere before.
With memories from two lifetimes tangled together, Ling Xi couldn’t place it. She exhaled in resignation and said softly, “Wasn’t it just because we were in public? Had to be mindful of appearances.”
She leaned slightly closer. “Let me wipe your tears. Don’t cry. These beautiful eyes won’t look good if they’re all puffy.”
The two policewomen in front stifled their laughter. “Ah, youth. No one’s judging you.”
“And you two are clearly so in love, you risked your life to protect her. A little affection is nothing.”
As if oblivious to their teasing, Song Yi stared at Ling Xi’s seemingly sincere expression, momentarily stunned.
“Alright? Don’t cry. It hurts me to see you like this.”
Song Yi’s ears twitched slightly.
She actually wanted to agree outright. She even wished she could take the opportunity to do something even more outrageous.
But ultimately, she was afraid of scaring Lingxi.
She tilted her chin up. “Then apologize, and I’ll let you wipe it.”
As she said this, two teardrops still clung to her eyelids.
They shimmered like crystal, as if they weren’t tears at all, just part of her makeup.
How could a drunkard cry so elegantly?
Lingxi, too, found herself with a bit more patience. “Baby, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have pretended not to know you. Can you forgive me now?”
“No next time.” The threat in Song Yi’s words carried no weight at all, sounding more like playful banter between lovers.
She closed her eyes and leaned her face forward, then, upon seeing Lingxi’s hand, immediately rested her chin on it.
Lingxi nearly recoiled from the heat of Song Yi’s skin.
She wiped carefully, then absentmindedly brushed her fingers over Song Yi’s forehead, her gaze softening.
“Officer, could we possibly speed up the statement? My… my girlfriend has a fever. I’d like to get her home soon.”
“Don’t worry, we won’t keep you long. You know how it is, just formalities,” the officer in the front seat replied with a smile.
The case assigned to them was significant, high-profile, and involved serious circumstances.
But tonight was just a simple civilian rescue.
In the end, if those people were connected to the case, someone would undoubtedly come knocking on the two girls’ doors for further questioning in a few days.
Tonight really was just about leaving a basic record.
Song Yi smirked inwardly at Lingxi’s quick thinking and leaned against her shoulder.
Lingxi had no choice but to let her cling.
Once inside the station, a different team took over to record their statements.
Song Yi was still drunk, so her account was taken alongside Lingxi’s.
“Approximately what time did you arrive at the scene?”
Lingxi glanced at Song Yi.
Song Yi answered without hesitation, “Twelve-fifteen at night.”
She even threw the officer a look.
“…You tell us,” Officer Yun Fengzhi sighed, exasperated and not just because of Song Yi’s answer.
After all, it wasn’t even ten yet. There was no way they could’ve been at the scene by midnight.
But Yun Fengzhi had left high society to become an investigator.
She had once been part of that elite circle herself, and she wasn’t just acquainted with Song Yi, they knew each other very well.
Now here was her supposedly unshakable, never-drunk best friend putting on a drunken act right in front of her. Was she into this little alpha?
But if she remembered correctly, the name “Lingxi”… was identical to that of Mu Xie’s fiancée, who was supposed to be getting married today.
“About nine-oh-five,” Lingxi said, giving the time she had called the police.
“Where did they first start following you?” Yun Fengzhi didn’t dare let her mind wander further into the melodrama of high society.
She was here to do her job, not expose whatever game Song Yi was playing.
Lingxi looked at Song Yi again.
Yun Fengzhi tapped the desk. “She can’t be held accountable for her words right now. You should be the one answering.”
Only then did Lingxi recount everything that had happened.
“I wasn’t with her. I was just doing a university social practice assignment and got lost. Around nine, I accidentally turned into that alley…”
Yun Fengzhi noted it down, exchanging a glance with her colleague. Both wore expressions of resignation.
These two key witnesses, one pretending to be drunk and foolish, the other not even present before the incident were practically useless for testimony.
“How many people did you see? Did any of them escape?”
“Five.” Just to be safe, Ling Xi also described the general characteristics of the five individuals.
Beside her, Song Yi spoke up again: “Wrong, darling. It’s six.”
“But… when I arrived, I only saw five people surrounding you.” Ling Xi was momentarily stunned.
Had she arrived too late, and someone had already gone back to report?
Song Yi nodded, as if agreeing with her. “Yes, exactly six.”
Yun Fengzhi frowned and gave Song Yi another glance. “Miss Song, you saw eight people, didn’t you?”
Song Yi shook her head and slapped the table. “Seven people.”
“…How many is this?” Ling Xi held up two fingers in a “V.”
Song Yi took her hand, pulled it close to her face so close she even sniffed it.
“Three,” she declared after feeling it for a long while, returning Ling Xi’s hand with utmost seriousness.
Watching their interaction, Yun Fengzhi nearly spat out his drink.
Still, Song Yi wouldn’t joke about something this serious. Ling Xi circled the number of people, planning to have someone investigate later.
The statement ended there. Ling Xi had told them everything she could, and the officers kindly called a cab to take them home.
“Are you going back separately or together?” asked the officer who had escorted them earlier while arranging the ride.
Song Yi grabbed Ling Xi’s arm. “Darling is obviously coming with me.”
“I’ll go with her,” Ling Xi also offered.
First, she didn’t trust this drunk to go back alone.
Second, she had saved Song Yi after all, maybe she could use this chance to ask for a favor.
Once in the car, Song Yi continued clinging to Ling Xi.
Soft as melted sugar, with a sweet, fresh scent likely her usual perfume, Ling Xi guessed.
“They said you saved me.” Song Yi looked drowsy but still held on tightly, unwilling to let go.
“Sort of?” Ling Xi didn’t overstate it. “Unless you had a backup plan.”
“What’s a backup plan? Can you eat it?”
“…” Why was she bothering to explain to a drunk?
This woman couldn’t even count properly right now, nothing she promised tonight would hold.
“No, you can’t eat it.” Ling Xi played along, lest Song Yi throw a tipsy tantrum she’d have to deal with.
“Boring. I don’t have one.” Song Yi nuzzled her shoulder. “Since you saved me, I should repay you.”
“What kind of repayment?”
The woman lifted her chin proudly, eyes sparkling.
“We’ll talk when you’re sober.” Ling Xi sighed.
If only Song Yi would wake up now.
How she longed to hear those words, just not from a drunk.
This version of Song Yi couldn’t be held accountable for anything she said.
“Oh…” Song Yi closed her eyes, seemingly asleep again.
Ling Xi exhaled, gazing blankly at the quiet night outside.
If she missed this chance, and Song Yi refused to help, what then?
She brooded for a while until Song Yi suddenly jolted awake, sitting upright.
Ling Xi thought she’d sobered up, but the drunk just hooked a finger under her chin and tapped her lips.
“I could always offer myself to you…”
After that single line, she flopped back down.
“…” Ling Xi shut her eyes, completely exasperated.
She didn’t need anyone’s self-sacrifice, nor had she stepped in to extort favors. She’d acted out of sheer courage.
Simply because she couldn’t bear to see someone get hurt in front of her when she had the ability to help.
Saving Song Yi was just a stroke of coincidence.
Upon arriving at the destination, Ling Xi looked at the now soundly asleep Song Yi and, after some deliberation, decided to carry her in her arms.
Since she had already gone this far, she might as well take her all the way to the door before figuring out what to do next.
She stood before an enormous mansion gate, a lavish courtyard, and a brightly lit villa yet felt nothing. She knocked on the door.
Half a minute later, a middle-aged woman leaning on a cane came out. The moment she saw the person in Ling Xi’s arms, her heart skipped a beat. “What are you doing with our young lady?”
