- Chapter 19 - Discovery
Tang Huan woke up at the crack of dawn again the next morning.
She had carefully observed Qin Su the previous day and found that the latter was very easy to please and not a picky eater. So, Tang Huan decided on a menu herself and prepared two bowls of noodles, a savory soup, and a few dumplings. Carefully packing the food in a container, she headed to Baiwu Peak on her sword once more.
“You again?”
A-Qi opened the door, his eyes still heavy with sleep. He was startled to see Tang Huan standing there. “You’re not planning on coming this early every day, are you?”
Tang Huan’s smile grew even more innocent, but she didn’t answer.
“You really are!” The last vestiges of A-Qi’s sleepiness vanished instantly. He widened his eyes and scanned Tang Huan from head to toe, his voice filled with curiosity. “By the way, what did you do to win over Master?”
A-Qi had thought about it for a long time but couldn’t figure it out. Among all the people who tried to get close to Qin Su, Tang Huan wasn’t the most beautiful, nor did she have the most powerful background or talent. Yet, she was the one who was granted access to Qin Su’s cave dwelling.
“I don’t know why either. Maybe it’s because I’m more sincere!” Tang Huan returned A-Qi’s gaze sincerely, her smile utterly guileless.
She would never tell A-Qi that she had put her dignity aside and shamelessly begged and acted cute to get access!
Most cultivators were reserved, and Tang Huan could guarantee that no one had ever been as thick-skinned and persistent with Qin Su as she had.
A-Qi eyed Tang Huan skeptically for a moment. Thinking about the unfathomable Qin Su, he figured Tang Huan herself probably didn’t know either. He reluctantly accepted her explanation and stepped aside to let her in.
Tang Huan had actually been waiting outside for a while.
Now a cultivator, her constitution was much better than before, and she wasn’t bothered by the cold of Baiwu Peak. However, after waiting for some time, her noodles had started to get soggy and lose their perfect texture, even with a warming jade stone.
Tang Huan lifted the lid of the food container and saw that this wouldn’t do. She decided that in a few days, she would find a way to ask Qin Su for the entry command to the cave dwelling. With the command, she could enter Qin Su’s home whenever she wanted, without needing to go through A-Qi.
As she walked, Tang Huan also eyed the open space in front of Qin Su’s cave dwelling. She thought about setting up a small, simple kitchen there so she could cook for Qin Su right away instead of having to send the food back and forth on her sword…
Lost in these thoughts, and wanting to avoid disturbing Qin Su in case she was still asleep, Tang Huan instinctively lightened her steps. She looked up and saw the door to the alchemy room was open. Qin Su was already seated in front of the furnace.
The pills inside the furnace were already taking shape. Based on Tang Huan’s previous alchemy experience, and factoring in the time to identify the herbs, Qin Su must have woken up even earlier than she did.
Seeing Qin Su’s pale face so early in the morning, Tang Huan felt a mix of heartache and worry, and her brows furrowed involuntarily. No wonder Qin Su’s health was getting worse day by day. She worked tirelessly, not even resting when she was sick. How could she possibly get better?
This was infuriating!
The feeling was similar to discovering a top-scoring student secretly going to an internet cafe after school, leaving you both angry and disappointed.
“Senior Sister,” Tang Huan couldn’t help but call out. Just as she was about to give Qin Su a stern lecture, she saw Qin Su turn and look at her, offering a gentle smile. “Junior Sister, you’ve come at the perfect time. The pills are almost ready! Your cultivation has improved significantly recently, but your foundation is a bit unstable. These pills will help you consolidate it…”
The scolding words caught in Tang Huan’s throat.
It had never occurred to Tang Huan that the pills were being prepared for her. Her eyes widened as she blurted out, “Senior Sister, you woke up so early to make pills for me?”
Qin Su lowered her head and smiled. “Junior Sister, you went to a lot of trouble yesterday.”
She was silently confirming Tang Huan’s guess.
Oh, so the top-scoring student secretly went to the internet cafe after school to work a part-time job to repay the person who gave her a good life…
As the “provider,” Tang Huan looked at the beautiful woman with the pale face in front of her. Her earlier anger and disappointment instantly melted away, replaced by an overwhelming sense of affection.
“Senior Sister, don’t worry about the pills right now. Eat something first.”
Tang Huan was deeply moved. Her eyes grew moist as she looked at Qin Su. The emotional shift was so rapid that she didn’t know how to react, and her demeanor became somewhat shy. She leaned forward, lowered her head, and tugged at Qin Su’s sleeve. “I-I didn’t make this for you on purpose. I was just thinking that since I was coming here to cultivate, I might as well make an extra portion of breakfast…”
This was the excuse Tang Huan had prepared. Qin Su disliked troubling others, and Tang Huan worried she would feel burdened.
But Qin Su could see through her.
After all, Tang Huan’s earlier expression with her cheeks puffed out, eyes wide, and an imposing aura. She was like a little thunder beast about to explode. All her frustration was written in her expressive eyes.
Now, she was looking down, her ears red, appearing docile and dependent—a complete contrast to her earlier self.
For some reason, as Qin Su looked at Tang Huan like this, something stirred within her. She suddenly felt a little happy.
“Thank you, Junior Sister.” Qin Su nodded, pretending not to notice Tang Huan’s embarrassment. She sat down at the table and opened the container.
The noodles were already a bit soggy, but Qin Su didn’t seem to notice. She ate with great focus.
Tang Huan finally calmed her jumbled emotions. When she looked up and saw Qin Su like this, another wave of affection washed over her.
She had originally planned to postpone her kitchen-building plan, as she had already asked for so much from Qin Su yesterday. However, at that moment, Tang Huan only wanted to cook the best food in the world for Qin Su. Some words just slipped out.
“Senior Sister, I have an unreasonable request…”
Qin Su looked up at Tang Huan, signaling that she had heard her. However, she didn’t respond to Tang Huan’s request. Instead, she pushed the other bowl of noodles on the table toward her and smiled gently. “Junior Sister, the noodles will get cold soon. Tell me what you want to say after you finish eating.”
She was only eating to not waste Tang Huan’s effort, but Tang Huan was different. Tang Huan genuinely enjoyed food and eating.
Besides, Qin Su felt that something was missing when she ate without Tang Huan’s company.
Tang Huan had regretted speaking up, as she hadn’t thought of a proper excuse to convince Qin Su yet. But Qin Su’s words now provided her a way out.
“Okay, I’m hungry, too.” Tang Huan beamed a brilliant smile, patted her stomach, and sat down across from Qin Su, picking up her chopsticks.
She ate quickly, her mind racing. She finally decided to first get the entry command for Qin Su’s cave dwelling, then build the small kitchen and face the consequences later…
With that thought, Tang Huan finished her noodles in a few bites, then propped her chin on her hand, smiling as she watched Qin Su eat.
“Senior Sister, I waited outside the cave dwelling for a while this morning, and the noodles got a bit cold. I’m not very happy about that, so tomorrow I’ll definitely make you an even better-tasting bowl of noodles…”
Tang Huan’s expression feigned disappointment, but the little person inside her mind was already striking a proud pose: With this excuse, she could keep making breakfast for Qin Su tomorrow. She was a genius…
She wasn’t in a hurry to ask for the cave dwelling’s entry command. It was a rare opportunity to openly stare at Qin Su, who looked beautiful while eating, so she couldn’t help but gaze at her and continue with her sweet talk.
She’s doing it again…
Qin Su pursed her lips.
She didn’t know what was wrong with her. She considered herself someone who had weathered great storms, yet every time Tang Huan looked at her with that expression, Qin Su felt completely flustered.
But for some reason, Qin Su didn’t want to show her discomfort to Tang Huan.
With that thought, Qin Su slowly put down her chopsticks, trying to act as if everything were normal. “That was my oversight. I’ll give you the entry command later so you can go straight in from now on.”
After all, this cave dwelling was meant for Tang Huan eventually, so she might as well give her the command ahead of time.
“What were you going to ask me earlier?”
Tang Huan, who had a whole speech prepared with plans for acting cute and sweet-talking to get the command, was dumbfounded.
Since Qin Su had offered the command on her own, Tang Huan didn’t need to be so polite.
She didn’t start building the small kitchen that day. Instead, she pretended to cultivate diligently in Qin Su’s cave dwelling.
She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but the spiritual energy in Qin Su’s cave dwelling seemed much denser than outside, and her cultivation progressed more smoothly.
This only strengthened Tang Huan’s resolve to stay here all day to supervise Qin Su’s rest and cultivate at the same time.
The very next day, Tang Huan decided to secretly start her plan to build the small kitchen.
She made a point of waking up extra early, rising at 3 a.m. She packed the materials for the small kitchen into her storage bag and used the command to quietly unlock the barrier to Qin Su’s cave dwelling and sneak in.
The lights in Qin Su’s room were off, a clear sign that she was asleep.
Tang Huan breathed a sigh of relief and quickly got to work. She planned to build the kitchen as fast as possible. If Qin Su woke up and discovered it, it would be a done deal, and there would be nothing she could do to stop it.
Thinking about being able to give Qin Su freshly-made food that very day, Tang Huan was filled with motivation. She focused on constructing the small kitchen, and soon, she had the foundation laid out.
She let out a breath of relief and was about to use a spell to build the walls. She turned around and saw Qin Su had silently appeared behind her.
How did Qin Su get here?
Tang Huan jumped in surprise, her eyes wide. Her mind raced for an explanation, but then she saw Qin Su take a step closer. Looking at the laid-out foundation, Qin Su slightly furrowed her brows and spoke softly:
“Junior Sister, are you trying to build a… spirit beast nest here?”
