Shallow Fate (Lily ABO) mute A - Chapter 6
In the past, why didn’t she find the days of living alone so difficult?
Every day after finishing her work, Fang Yu would lean halfway against the door frame in a daze, looking forward to that figure that would never appear.
When washing clothes, she would always remember those two swaying little legs. When taking a bath, she would think of the circles of ripples spreading in the tub.
Lying on the bed, looking left and right, the scenes that made her blush and her heart beat faster filled her mind, making her unable to fall asleep.
The old people in the village said that this is called lovesickness.
Will A-Mo miss her? Does she eat well? Does she sleep well? Is she lacking anything?
The autumn wind rustled, blowing away the summer heat. A-Mo said that she would be back in winter.
Fang Yu had never looked forward to the first snowflake like this.
But the days were stretched so long, so long, one day was more difficult than three days.
She suddenly thought that if A-Mo didn’t come back, she could go find her.
When her mother was still alive, she took her to the countryside a few times. She roughly knew the location of the school. While the weather hadn’t completely turned cold, Fang Yu decided to visit Shen Zhimo.
She didn’t know what to bring.
In the countryside, the best gift for visiting relatives and friends is eggs. Fang Yu carefully buried a bucket of eggs in bran, and after thinking about it, she also brought a red woolen scarf that she had woven in her spare time. It was not finished yet, and Fang Yu planned to finish the stitches on the road.
She asked Aunt Mo to help take care of the housework for a few days, carried the bamboo woven basket on her back, and set off on the road to see her wife.
In order to save money, she chose to walk to the countryside.
The old road was rugged and difficult to walk, but her cheerful mood dispelled these obstacles, because with every step she took, she was closer to Shen Zhimo.
After walking for a day and half the night, the cobblestone street finally appeared in front of her.
This place seemed to be the same as she remembered, but upon closer inspection, it was very different.
The tile houses on both sides of the street were still there, but the vendors doing business inside didn’t know how many waves had changed. There was not a single familiar face at a glance.
There were not so many pedestrians and bicycles coming and going on the road as before.
The peddlers who set up stalls along the street shouted loudly, diligently soliciting business from passersby. Among them, a hawking sound attracted Fang Yu’s attention.
“Orange soda! Cool and refreshing! Three cents a bottle!”
This stall was surrounded by the most students. The tempting orange liquid was sealed in a transparent bottle. A few students put together three cents and handed it to the peddler, who used a bottle opener hanging under the stall to pry open the bottle cap.
“Bang!”
The students’ eyes suddenly became bright, and they raised their necks and gulped down the thing called “orange soda.”
So the students liked this.
Fang Yu reached into her inner pocket, counted out three cents, squeezed through the crowd and found the peddler to buy a bottle.
Would A-Mo like it?
Walking further, she arrived at the school street, which was also the street that female students liked to visit most.
A dazzling array of small accessories hung on various stalls. Fang Yu picked out a black, melon-shaped hairpin, with a small lily of the valley flower attached to the tail.
The same as A-Mo’s pheromone scent.
This small thing cost Fang Yu a month’s expenses. She carefully held it in her palm, for fear of losing it.
Arriving at a place under a plaque supported by a frame, Fang Yu stopped.
Fortunately, the school was still in its original location, otherwise, in this huge town, she didn’t know how long it would take to find the place.
She couldn’t speak or write, and she didn’t know when Shen Zhimo went to and from school, so she had to stand foolishly under the school’s plaque and wait for Shen Zhimo.
The students passing by all curiously looked at this country bumpkin. This was no wonder they did. Fang Yu looked about the same age as them, but her dress was very different from theirs.
She wore a washed-out coarse cloth coat on her upper body, and a pair of overly large black trousers on her lower body. The cloth shoes on her feet were still covered with mud splashed from the road. Among a group of students who were either wearing neat school uniforms or new-style cheongsams, she looked so out of place.
The bell rang several times, and the pale yellow sunset shrouded Fang Yu’s body. When the last bell rang, she finally saw Shen Zhimo’s graceful figure coming.
The woman with clear eyebrows and bright eyes was wearing a black, straight-cut cheongsam. The half-high collar tightened her neck just right, setting off the beautiful lines of her neck. A pair of beautiful legs were faintly visible at the opening of the skirt, making this narrow old street alley also become lively and fragrant.
She walked along with her books in one hand and her companion’s arm in the other, unknowingly passing by Fang Yu, until her hand was held back by a force, and she turned her head.
“…Fang Yu? …What are you doing here?”
That indifferent expression began to relax, and then a trace of surprise floated up. After Shen Zhimo completely reacted to what the scene in front of her meant, her expression could only be described as alarmed.
“Zhimo, this is?” The female companion who was suddenly interrupted in her journey shook her arm unhappily.
“Uh… um… it’s… a cousin from my hometown…”
Why did A-Mo say that she was her cousin? Wasn’t she A-Mo’s wife?
Fang Yu curled her lips, but she didn’t have any extra hands to make gestures to explain.
“I’m sorry, Sister Yang, I have something else to do… I’ll go first, see you tomorrow!”
Shen Zhimo let go of her female companion’s arm, hurriedly grabbed Fang Yu’s wrist and left the school.
The things on her back were very heavy, and Shen Zhimo’s steps were too fast. Fang Yu couldn’t keep up, but Shen Zhimo just kept her head down and rushed forward until she came to a quiet alley before stopping.
“What are you doing here?”
Fang Yu ignored the impatience in her tone, took out the bottle of soda that had already been warmed from her arms and handed it to Shen Zhimo.
“Just to give me a bottle of soda?”
That’s right, she hadn’t given A-Mo the hairpin yet.
After Shen Zhimo took the bottle, Fang Yu spread out her palm and showed the hairpin to Shen Zhimo.
“…Thank you, help me put it on.”
Shen Zhimo’s tone softened a little. As the saying goes, don’t hit a smiling face, especially since Fang Yu came to bring her things, and her attitude just now was indeed not very good.
Fang Yu first put her hand on her pants and wiped it, then opened the hairpin and clipped it on top of Shen Zhimo’s head.
“Is it pretty?”
Seeing the person opposite nodding repeatedly, Shen Zhimo’s mood finally improved.
Fang Yu put down her basket and took off the sunshade cloth, revealing the eggs and scarf inside.
“I don’t have a place to cook here, you can take it back, the scarf… keep it for yourself to wear…”
That scarf was too rustic, and didn’t match any of her clothes. Shen Zhimo refused without even thinking about it.
How would she know that this was Fang Yu’s intention after staying up many nights weaving it?
Fang Yu disappointedly covered the sunshade cloth.
A-Mo didn’t seem very happy about her arrival, but she didn’t want to leave like this.
She took a step forward and held Shen Zhimo’s hand, hoping that Shen Zhimo could give her more response.
Shen Zhimo was about to pull away, but hesitated when her eyes met those affectionate eyes.
She looked around and, after confirming that there was no one around, quickly hugged Fang Yu.
Fang Yu didn’t even have time to feel the warmth of the hug.
“Go back, Fang Yu.”
But…
They had only met for less than a quarter of an hour, and she hadn’t asked her if she was eating well, sleeping well… how she was doing…
Seeing that Shen Zhimo was about to turn around, Fang Yu had to swallow all these questions back into her stomach. She broke open Shen Zhimo’s fingers, and finally took out one thing and put it in Shen Zhimo’s palm.
It was the cloth bag for holding money.
“You…”
Should she refuse? But her fingers involuntarily tightened the cloth bag.
“Go back! Fang Yu!”
Shen Zhimo said this again.
After speaking, she turned around, avoided that hot gaze, and strode away from the alley.
Seeing that figure disappear, Fang Yu lowered her head and rubbed her stomach.
“Goo…”
It seems… she forgot to eat on the way…
