This story is a slow burn. It gets interesting after the first case, so please be patient.

Synopsis:

Cheng Yu Fan, a ruthless, taciturn, and calculatingly ascetic female lawyer, versus Shi Ye, a seemingly aloof but secretly fiery and proud young woman in the entertainment industry.

A year ago, Cheng Yu Fan returned to Hai City to practice law. She takes on cases of all kinds, except for sexual assault cases.

Shi Ye, whose mother was once a film queen, signed her first unfair contract—a ten-year deal—on her behalf.

The two had a brief encounter during their adolescence, lasting just one summer.

Back then, Cheng Yu Fan was sunny and cheerful, a radiant girl like a gift from the sun. Shi Ye gazed up at her with longing, daring only to reach out and touch her shadow.

One day, Shi Ye sat on a reef and asked, “How can I change this miserable life?”

Cheng Yu Fan gave her a kazoo and said, “When you’re strong enough.”

Later, they parted without a word, drifting across oceans to opposite corners of the world.

At night, she dreamed of her, tossing and turning restlessly.

Shi Ye took out the kazoo from its brocade box and murmured to herself—

Cheng Yu Fan, where are you? Are you well?

Much later, they reunited.

Their eyes met, but Cheng Yu Fan was distant and unfamiliar, showing no memory of that summer, the kazoo, or the days they had shared.

Shi Ye: “Didn’t you say that if you’re strong enough, you can change your life?”

Cheng Yu Fan: “Did I? Just youthful folly.”

Scene 1

In the long, dark night, Shi Ye jolted awake from another sweat-soaked dream.

The massive floor-to-ceiling window framed her pale, bare back in stark contrast.

She habitually lit a cigarette, the crimson flame dancing at her fingertips. As the tide of emotion receded, an overwhelming emptiness pressed down on her—

“I dreamed of her again.”

“Who?”

“Cheng Yu Fan.”

“You were…?”

Shi Ye silently acknowledged the question and hung up.

Thinking of her, dreaming of her, she finally realized she loved her.

She had a burning rose garden, one that could only be nourished with the bl00d of her heart.

Scene 2

Side Couple: A single-minded female doctor who only wants romance, not love, versus a black-clad, black-haired female police officer who has lost the ability to love.

Ruan Youjia vs. Ji Bai

Ruan Youjia: “You felt nothing?”

Ji Bai: “Mm.”

Ruan Youjia: “Then what the hell happened last night?”

Ji Bai: “A misunderstanding.”

Ruan Youjia: “I’ll fucking misunderstand you right now!”

Just solving cases, no romance? I’ll win you over eventually, you stubborn woman!
