- Episode 4 - ltrinde’s Memories (From Eltrinde’s point of view)
“You’re nothing but a monster!”
As a child, Eltrinde was shunned by those around her—because her magical power was simply too great. Uncontrollable and dangerous, her power would run rampant, causing harm whenever it flared. Eventually,
she was sent away to live with a distant noble relative. But even there, most people feared her. Cold stares and cruel words were a part of her everyday life.
Yet, even then, there was one person who stood by her.

“Eltrinde, you have an incredible gift. A magic no one else can replicate. It’s something truly special. But how you choose to use that power—that’s entirely up to you.”
That person was her foster brother, Asto.
His words were always warm, always kind.

“But… I can’t control it. Everyone’s afraid of me… they hate me.”
“That’s not true. I think you’re wonderful, Eltrinde. I love you just the way you are.”

Whenever Eltrinde recalled those words, her heart would fill with a quiet warmth.
Even though Asto was always busy, he still made time to help her practice magic. He never once turned her away.

“I’ll teach you. How to use your power, how to control it. Let’s practice together. Mastering the basics—that’s the fastest path to true strength.”
“Okay! I’ll do my best!”

His teaching methods were a bit unconventional, but by following his guidance, Eltrinde gradually learned to control her magic.
One afternoon, Eltrinde was walking through the palace halls, humming cheerfully to herself, clutching her magic practice notebook—one Asto had helped her fill. Today was another training day with her brother, and she couldn’t wait.
That’s when she heard voices around the corner—maids talking in hushed tones.

“Hey, did you hear? Lady Eltrinde used magic again.”
“Ugh, what a nuisance. That kind of monstrous magic isn’t normal.”
“And she’s even troubling Lord Asto with it. Honestly, she needs to realize just how much of a burden she is on everyone.”

Eltrinde froze.
A sharp pain clutched at her chest.

“…I’m a burden…?”

“They say Lord Asto’s engagement was called off because of her. I bet he secretly hates having a freak like that for a sister.”

Her fingers clenched tightly around her notebook. Emotions surged up from deep within, and her magic began to leak uncontrollably.

“So even he… doesn’t love me…”

As she choked out a sob, a violent surge of magic burst forth. The walls trembled, decorations rattled, and the maids screamed, stumbling back.

“Eek…!”
“She really is a monster!”

Those words pushed Eltrinde over the edge.
Tears welled in her eyes as her power spun further out of control.

“I can’t take this anymore…!”

Just as the hallway began to collapse under the force of her magic—

“Eltrinde! Are you alright?!”

Asto’s voice rang out. He rushed toward her, placing himself between Eltrinde and the terrified maids. Without hesitation, he pulled her into his arms, ignoring the violent currents of magic that swirled around them.

“Brother…?”

Eltrinde’s voice trembled with confusion and disbelief.
Asto gazed into her eyes and spoke gently.

“What happened, Eltrinde?”

He placed a hand on her shoulder, and warm magic flowed from his palm, wrapping around her like a calming embrace. It softened the chaos within her.

“Brother… am I not a burden to you…?”
“What are you talking about? There’s nothing that makes me happier than having such a precious little sister by my side.”

His words made tears pour from Eltrinde’s eyes.
Gradually, her magic calmed, and the hallway fell silent.
The maids, still shaking, began to slink away. Asto turned toward them, his expression unreadable, his voice calm but razor-sharp.

“I heard everything. The way you speak about my sister.”
________________________________________
There was a distinct edge to his tone, unlike anything they had heard from him before. The maids cowered.

“W-We didn’t mean to… we were just—”
“Eltrinde is my sister. And she’s the most important person in this entire kingdom. If you choose to insult her, then you’d better be ready to deal with the consequences.”
“W-We’re so sorry!!”

The maids paled and fled the scene in a panic.
Afterward, Asto gently led Eltrinde to the garden. Alone together, beneath the open sky, he smiled and spoke softly.

“Are you feeling better now, Eltrinde?”

She gave a small nod, then whispered.
________________________________________
“Brother… am I really not just a burden to everyone…?”
________________________________________
Asto shook his head.
________________________________________
“Not at all. You’re special. And while not everyone may understand that… I always will. I’ll always be on your side.”
________________________________________
Those words filled her heart with warmth.
She murmured in a voice barely above a breath—
________________________________________
“Thank you… Brother.”

From that day on, Asto became Eltrinde’s unwavering light. The one person who would always protect her—no matter what.

Eltrinde sat by the window, recalling those precious memories—her younger self with silver hair, and the warmth of Asto who had embraced her through it all.

“If he hadn’t been there for me that day… what would’ve become of me?”

She looked down at her left arm. The dark markings of the curse still lingered there, a constant reminder of her vow.

“This time, it’s my turn to protect you.”

She whispered the words quietly, reaffirming her resolve. Then, gazing up at the night sky beyond the window, her eyes sparkled with both love—and unshakable determination.
