She Came From Hell (GL) - Chapter 14
It took Fu Jingsheng an hour to drive to the family estate with Fu Yinxuan and Shen Yilan.
After getting out of the car, Fu Jingsheng carried Shen Yilan in his arms and led Fu Yinxuan into the vast villa.
“Dad, Mom,” Fu Jingsheng called as they entered the living room.
“Grandpa, Grandma,” Fu Yinxuan followed suit.
In the living room sat Mr. and Mrs. Fu, along with Fu Jingsheng’s sister, Fu Jingya, her husband Zhou Cheng, and their sixteen-year-old son Zhou Yahuan. On another sofa were Fu Jingsheng’s second brother, Fu Jinghai, his wife Xue Ciyan, and their ten-year-old daughter, Fu Qin.
Shen Yilan looked at the group and thought, So, this is how big the Fu family is!
“You’re back? And who is this little girl?” Mrs. Fu asked kindly.
Fu Jingsheng sat down on the sofa, placing Shen Yilan on his lap, with Fu Yinxuan seated next to him.
“This is the child I told you about—the one I picked up last week. I was being chased at the time, and I believe it was thanks to her that I escaped. The assassins’ car suddenly malfunctioned and crashed into the guardrail on the mountainside road, hanging over the cliff. That’s how I got away,” Fu Jingsheng explained, recalling the day he met Shen Yilan.
“Well, this child must be a little lucky star!” Mrs. Fu said with a warm smile as she looked at Shen Yilan.
“What’s your name, little one?” Fu Jingsheng’s sister, Fu Jingya, asked gently, her tone playful.
Shen Yilan hesitated, overwhelmed by all the unfamiliar faces, and finally looked up at Fu Jingsheng, who was holding her.
Seeing her unease, Fu Jingsheng softly reassured her, “Don’t be scared. This is Grandpa, Grandma, your aunt, uncle, and cousin. And over there are your second uncle, second aunt, and cousin. Now, tell them your name.”
After a moment of hesitation, Shen Yilan softly said, “My name is Shen Yilan… no, it’s Fu Yilan.”
“Yilan, can Grandma call you Xiao Lan?” Mrs. Fu asked warmly, her affection for the child growing.
The name “Xiao Lan” triggered a fleeting moment of nostalgia in Shen Yilan. It reminded her of the gentle voice of Madam Shen calling her by the same name. Tears welled up in her eyes, her bright gaze turning misty.
“Okay—” Shen Yilan replied in a teary voice.
“Oh dear, why is my little darling crying? Did Grandma scare you?” Mrs. Fu’s heart ached as she saw Shen Yilan’s tearful face. She got up, took Shen Yilan from Fu Jingsheng’s arms, and gently patted her back while comforting her.
“No… Xiao Lan really likes Grandma,” Shen Yilan said between her soft sobs.
“Tch, Yinxuan, is your sister this easily frightened? She seems so delicate, like she can’t handle much,” Zhou Yahuan whispered to Fu Yinxuan. He was reminded of their school routine—every noon, they would fetch Shen Yilan for lunch and bring her to their dorm to nap. She had always seemed so fragile, sweet, and gentle, just like a little dumpling, as Fu Yinxuan often described her.
Fu Yinxuan gave Zhou Yahuan a cold glance and said, “Maybe it’s your face that scared her.”
“Get lost,” Zhou Yahuan retorted.
The Fu family’s children all attended the same school. Fu Yinxuan and Zhou Yahuan were in their first year of high school and shared a class, while Fu Qin was already in fourth grade.
Today was Fu Jingsheng’s first time formally introducing Shen Yilan to the family at the estate. It was also Fu Qin’s first time meeting her. Fu Qin thought the little girl was absolutely adorable, though she seemed to cry easily. Fu Qin decided to protect her little cousin at school and make sure no one bullied her.
