She Came From Hell - Chapter 2
In the car, Shen Yilan watched her mother driving in the front seat. She wanted to ask—why? Why had her mother done this to her? What had she done wrong?
Countless times, she wondered why the mother who once cherished her would conspire with so many people to kill her. Why?
Perhaps her gaze was too intense, as her mother seemed to sense it. Glancing at the rearview mirror, all she saw was Shen Yilan quietly gazing out at the passing scenery.
Shen’s mother frowned slightly. Was she imagining things? Maybe she was just too tired and stressed lately.
Shen Yilan stared out the window, trying to recall her childhood memories. But suddenly, she froze. After leaving her grandmother’s house, where had she gone? What had happened? Why couldn’t she remember anything?
Was it because too much time had passed? No, that wasn’t it. She clearly remembered leaving her grandmother’s house at five and her grandmother’s car accident when she was eight. But what about the years in between?
She tried hard to remember but couldn’t. In her past life, why hadn’t she questioned the three-year gap in her memory?
“Xiaolan, are you thirsty? Mom bought some sweet milk for you. Grandma said you love sweet things,” Shen’s mother said while stopped at a red light. She handed a carton of sweet milk to Shen Yilan, who was sitting in the back seat.
Shen Yilan glanced at her mother and accepted the milk. She noticed her mother frequently checking the rearview mirror to see if she was drinking it.
Suspicion immediately rose in her heart. Was there something wrong with the milk? But why? She was only five years old!
After a moment’s thought, Shen Yilan decided to play along. Pretending to take a sip, she soon lay back on the seat and acted as though she had passed out.
She felt the car change lanes.
After three or four hours, the car came to a stop.
She heard her mother get out of the car and talk to someone outside. She couldn’t make out the words clearly.
Then the back door opened, and she felt herself being lifted out of the car and carried somewhere.
She heard beeping noises, like the sound of a card being swiped to unlock a door.
The person carrying her laid her on a cold, hard surface. She wasn’t sure what it was, but it felt icy against her skin.
She listened carefully. When she was sure no one else was around, she slowly opened her eyes.
Looking around, Shen Yilan was stunned. This was… the research facility! The one her body had been taken to after her death in her past life!
So, she had been here when she was five years old? That explained the gap in her memory. She must have spent those missing three years in this facility.
Shen Yilan’s mind raced with questions. Why had they brought her here? What was so special about her that they wanted to study her? And why were her parents involved? How were all these events connected?
As she pondered, she heard footsteps approaching. Quickly, she lay back down and closed her eyes, pretending to still be unconscious.
“Mrs. Shen, the agreement must remain confidential. If anything leaks, no one will survive.”
“I understand. I wouldn’t have made this decision if I weren’t prepared to be extremely cautious. This child was fathered by that man, so she must have inherited his abilities. If we can extract them and use them…”
“Mrs. Shen, Mr. Shen, I wish us a successful collaboration.”
“A pleasure to work with you.”
“Please escort them out. Once we have results, we’ll inform you to come back.”
“Agreed…”
