She Came From Hell (GL) - Chapter 40
The next day, as Fu Yilan walked into the classroom, she immediately sensed something was off. Her classmates were all looking at her as she entered.
Fu Yilan, confused, asked, “What are you all staring at? Did I get gold on my face?”
The classmates: If you really had gold on your face, we’d all team up to take it and sell it.
Fu Yilan didn’t hear any response, and didn’t pay it much attention. She simply sat down at her desk.
Her new deskmate, Lin Haoqin, kept glancing at her, as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t.
Guo Junya and Chen Xiaotian also turned to look at her from time to time, as though they were about to speak but found it hard to.
Fu Yilan couldn’t stand the nervous energy they were giving off.
“What’s going on? Why do you keep staring at me? If you have something to say, just say it, don’t be so weird about it.”
Guo Junya and Chen Xiaotian exchanged a look, sighed, and said, “Haven’t you seen the trending topic online?”
Fu Yilan shook her head. Why would she pay attention to that kind of thing? She wasn’t that free.
Guo Junya glanced around at their classmates and then lowered her voice. “You know the Shen family from G City, right? The one that fell from grace a few years ago? They just posted a photo online of the adopted daughter who died in the explosion ten years ago. She looks exactly like you when you were a child. We all suspect that you might be that adopted daughter who died in the explosion. And here’s the crazy part—her name was Shen Yilan, and your name is Fu Yilan!”
Fu Yilan didn’t say anything. She looked at Shen Ziyan, who was sitting at the third row in the first group, pretending to read a book, her head lowered.
Since Shen Ziyan had seen Fu Yilan walk in, she had lowered her head, too afraid to look at her. She had even told her parents about what happened on her first day of school, including Fu Yilan’s name. Her parents had looked terrified and rushed into their room, as if they were discussing something in secret.
That morning, Shen Ziyan had checked Weibo as usual and saw the trending topic. It was posted by the official Shen family account, showing a childhood photo of Shen Yilan along with her name. The post expressed mourning for her.
When Shen Ziyan came back to class, she overheard her classmates discussing the trending topic. Several students mentioned how the childhood photo of Shen Yilan looked exactly like Fu Yilan’s. That made her even more nervous. She was afraid that Fu Yilan was actually Shen Yilan, and that Fu Yilan would take her place in her parents’ hearts.
She was even more scared that Fu Yilan would target her because of this. Shen Ziyan had already noticed how smart Fu Yilan was, and how vengeful she could be. Fu Yilan had definitely figured out that this had something to do with her.
Fu Yilan casually waved her hand, joking, “Oh, really? What a coincidence! Maybe she’s my long-lost twin sister?”
“Stop it!” Guo Junya rolled her eyes at Fu Yilan.
The Shen Family
“Is this really going to work?” Mrs. Shen asked with concern, looking at the trending topic on her phone.
Mr. Shen sneered and said, “Whether it works or not, we won’t know until we try. Shen Yilan, Fu Yilan—what are the chances that this is just a coincidence? And don’t forget, Fu Yilan grew up in S City. You know that the research institute was located on the half-mountain road between G City and S City.”
“But I’ve had people investigate it. Fu Yilan was adopted by Master Fu, the third master of the Fu family in S City. Do you know who he is? He’s a business tycoon! How could he have adopted a child who came from a mental institution?”
Mrs. Shen still didn’t want to believe it. After all, the hospital uniforms used at that research institute were identical to those from the nearby mental institution. If Shen Yilan hadn’t really died, to the outside world, it would look as though she had escaped from the mental hospital.
