She Came From Hell (GL) - Chapter 57
“Qi Xiyao, I heard you transferred schools? Just so happens, Mingjin wants to transfer to your school as well. I’ve already taken care of his transfer paperwork. Please look after him at school,” Old Mrs. Qi suddenly said during dinner, but her gaze never fell on Qi Xiyao, as if even looking at her would dirty her eyes.
Qi Xiyao’s hand holding her chopsticks paused. She lowered her head and softly replied, “The class for the first year is already full…”
“Isn’t Miss Fu here as well? Miss Fu can mention it to the school. Adding one more student shouldn’t be a big problem,” Old Mrs. Qi said, completely unfazed, as though it was the most natural thing in the world.
Qi Xiyao tightened her grip on her chopsticks slightly. Why should Ah Lan help Zheng Mingjin?
Ah Lan wasn’t indebted to the Qi family, and besides, Ah Lan was hers. She had nothing to do with the people here. Why did her grandmother think it was so natural to say something like this?
“Mom! Miss Fu has no obligation to do this,” Qi Xiyao’s mother, Madam Qi, disagreed.
“Isn’t Miss Fu a friend of Qi Xiyao? It’s just a small favor, asking her to help Qi Xiyao’s brother. I think Miss Fu looks like a kind girl, so she probably wouldn’t refuse. Right, Miss Fu?” Old Mrs. Qi looked at Fu Yilan arrogantly.
Fu Yilan put down her chopsticks, placed both hands on the table, and lightly tapped the surface with her left index finger. She stared at Old Mrs. Qi, her face expressionless.
“Old Mrs. Qi, I think you might have some misunderstanding. I’m not familiar with the Qi family. If I’m familiar with anyone, it’s only Mr. Qi, Mrs. Qi, and Qi Xiyao.
Thinking about it, I have no obligation to help. So, why should I not refuse just because Qi Xiyao and I are friends? Also, it seems that Old Mrs. Qi doesn’t know me well. I’m not exactly a kind person,” Fu Yilan said with cold politeness, her tone unbothered.
Old Mrs. Qi froze, clearly shocked. This little girl from the Fu family had a sharp tongue. Even though Master Fu had adopted her, it still couldn’t change the fact that she was an unruly child.
“Miss Fu, you’re going too far. It’s just asking to add one student. Why make such a fuss over something so small? Besides, Mingjin is Qi Xiyao’s brother.”
Old Mrs. Qi repeatedly emphasized Zheng Mingjin’s identity, and the entire table fell silent, no one speaking.
Zheng Mingjin looked at Fu Yilan with expectant eyes. He liked her. Ever since their first meeting when she saved him, he had fallen for her.
Qi Yuzhi glanced at Fu Yilan, but his gaze lingered on Qi Xiyao, who was still lowering her head and refusing to speak. After all these years, she was still so fragile, always so submissive in front of Old Mrs. Qi.
“Old Mrs. Qi, your thick skin could be put to better use, like making a bulletproof vest. You’re asking for a favor while acting so arrogant, as if it’s your right. I want to know—who gave you that confidence?
Since I’ve been here, I’ve noticed your clear preference for boys over girls. It’s really pitiful. I, Fu Yilan, am also a girl, and it seems I don’t even have the right to step foot into the Qi family’s old mansion, let alone stay for dinner,” Fu Yilan said, her voice calm but filled with biting sarcasm.
After finishing her words, Fu Yilan stood up and looked at Mr. and Mrs. Qi. She smiled and said, “Uncle, Aunt, I’ll be leaving now. Sorry for the disturbance. I’ll visit again next time.”
Mr. and Mrs. Qi smiled warmly and nodded in acknowledgment.
Fu Yilan glanced at Qi Xiyao, who was still eating with her head down. She said lightly, “Aren’t you getting up? Are you waiting for their approval? You’ll regret eating this meal later.”
Qi Xiyao looked up at Fu Yilan, her eyes red and moist, as if she was holding back tears that didn’t want to fall. It was heartbreaking.
Fu Yilan didn’t know how to handle the situation. She gently pulled Qi Xiyao up, holding her hand as they walked out.
Qi Yuzhi and Zheng Mingjin both watched the two leave, each with their own thoughts.
