She Came From Hell (GL) - Chapter 6
Shen Yilan closed her eyes, using her thoughts to manipulate the car behind them. It veered off the mountain road and crashed into the guardrail, leaving half the car hanging precariously over the edge of the cliff.
The man in the front seat glanced at the rearview mirror, finally relaxing when he saw what had happened. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder—how had it suddenly lost control and hit the guardrail? Could the steering wheel have malfunctioned?
“Little one, where are your parents? Why are you alone by the side of the road? And what’s with all that bl00d on you? Were you in danger?” the man asked after calming down. He looked at Shen Yilan, his voice filled with concern.
Shen Yilan shook her head, her bright and innocent eyes meeting his as she replied, “Uncle, what’s ‘parents’? I came from that place back there—it looks like a hospital. As for this bl00d, I don’t know how it got there.”
The man frowned. This child seemed to know nothing—was she suffering from amnesia? But there wasn’t a hospital back there, only a mental institution. Could she have come from there?
“Escaped from the mental institution?” he muttered to himself.
Shen Yilan scratched her nose awkwardly. Oh, right—she’d forgotten how secretive the research facility was. Hardly anyone knew about it. The mental institution in that direction, on the other hand, was pretty well-known.
“Huh? Uncle, what’s a mental institution? I didn’t escape—I walked out!” Shen Yilan said, her voice tinged with grievance. “Uncle, do you have anything to eat? I’m so hungry.”
The man glanced at her. She did look like she hadn’t eaten in a while, and standing by the roadside, she seemed to have been there for quite some time.
“I don’t have any food. You’ll have to hold on for a bit. Once we reach a town, I’ll get you something to eat.”
Shen Yilan nodded, sitting quietly and saying no more.
After driving off the mountain road and taking some smaller paths, they reached the nearest small town after about two hours.
It was already past ten at night.
The man parked in front of a shopping mall, pulled out a bottle of water and some tissues, dampened them, and carefully wiped the bl00d off Shen Yilan’s face and neck. Then he took off his coat, draped it over her to cover the bloodstained hospital gown, and carried her into the mall. He headed straight for the children’s clothing store and picked out a pink dress.
Shen Yilan: …
“Uncle, can I choose for myself?” Shen Yilan asked, looking up at him.
The man paused, then nodded.
Shen Yilan picked out a pair of black jeans and a loose white shirt in a larger size. She went into the changing room, changed into the clothes, and came back out. She also chose a pair of shoes to complete the outfit.
The man entered the changing room, took his coat and wrapped up the hospital gown, then asked the shop assistant for a bag to put it in.
After paying, he carried the bag in one hand and held Shen Yilan in the other as they left the mall and went to a nearby restaurant.
He booked a small private room, ordered some signature dishes, and added a bottle of soy milk.
“Little one, do you remember your name?” the man asked.
“Shen Yilan. My name is Shen Yilan. Uncle, what’s your name?” Shen Yilan asked as she sipped her soy milk.
“My surname is Fu—Fu Jingsheng. After dinner, Uncle will take you to the police. They’ll help you find your family,” he replied.
Shen Yilan was taken aback. Fu Jingsheng? The CEO of S City’s leading enterprise?
In her past life, she had heard plenty about him—stories and rumors alike. A young prodigy, a golden bachelor, the perfect dream man!
Although Fu Jingsheng had never married even into his forties, everyone knew he had an adopted son who was several years older than her. That adopted son was also a rising star in the business world, widely admired by all.
