 - Chapter 12 - Losing Control

An Jianqing pushed the door open and said with a smile, “Mengxi’s here.”
“Sorry, I had something to take care of and came late. I’ll drink a glass to apologize first,” Qiu Mengxi said with a smirk.
Despite her words, there was no hint of apology on her arrogant face.
Someone poured a glass of wine, handed it to Qiu Mengxi, and raised an eyebrow, asking, “Don’t tell me you broke up again?”
Qiu Mengxi drained the wine in her glass, looked at An Jianqing, and said, “Yes, I’m single again. Jianqing, it’s all because of you that I broke up. You’ll have to compensate me handsomely.”
Her cynical face carried a flirtatious and frivolous air. If anyone else made this expression, it would surely seem greasy, but her outstanding temperament and good looks instead revealed a mature feminine charm.
An Jianqing smiled, which served as an answer.
“If that’s the case, you owe Jianqing a lot of girlfriends. Every time an Omega likes Jianqing, you just snatch them away. It’s a good thing Jianqing has a good temper and doesn’t bother with you; if it were anyone else, they’d probably hate you to death,” one person said with a laugh.
Her voice was loud, and everyone heard it clearly.
Ning Xuechu, hearing this, shifted her gaze between the two, becoming more certain of her suspicions.
An Jianqing definitely had feelings for Qiu Mengxi, but since both were Alphas, they couldn’t have offspring together.
Otherwise, she couldn’t think of any other reason why An Jianqing would tolerate Qiu Mengxi’s actions so much.
A feeling of frustration filled her heart. Ning Xuechu felt a sense of irritation from having so much anger with nowhere to vent it.
She quietly sat in the corner, suppressing her emotions, not participating in the lively conversation of the others.
Among the group, Qiu Mengxi was the most active and radiant, chatting easily with everyone.
An Jianqing, the birthday girl, was instead quiet and spoke little.
Seeing Ning Xuechu’s slender figure curled up in the corner, looking pitiful and alone, An Jianqing got up and sat beside her, asking softly, “Xuechu, are you very bored?”
“No, Sister, don’t worry about me. Go play with them,” Ning Xuechu said obediently.
Seeing her lonely, forlorn, yet still sensible appearance, An Jianqing’s heart softened. She smiled and said, “They like liveliness, but they’re actually very easy to get along with. I’ll take you over.”
Ning Xuechu shook her head, still looking a little scared. “Sister, I’m fine staying here.”
“Don’t worry, with Sister here, they won’t dare bully you,” An Jianqing said softly, her voice gentle yet firm.
She extended her hand, a gentle, encouraging smile on her face.
The slender fingers were placed before her. Ning Xuechu was a little dazed. After a moment of hesitation, she extended her own hand and grasped it.
As their fingers clasped, she slightly tilted her head, and from the corner of her eye, she glanced at the lively crowd.
She saw Qiu Mengxi leaning on the sofa, her fingers clutching her wine glass suddenly tighten, a hint of coldness flashing in her eyes.
Ning Xuechu suddenly felt a surge of pleasure, and her lips unconsciously curved upwards.
Although she didn’t understand why she was competing with an unfamiliar woman.
But she just didn’t like the way An Jianqing indulged and doted on that woman.
Ning Xuechu stood up, smiled sweetly, and hooked her arm around An Jianqing’s, leaning in to say, “Sister, I don’t drink. Will it be a buzzkill if I go over?”
They were very close, almost whispering.
The coldness in Qiu Mengxi’s eyes deepened.
Someone nearby noticed Qiu Mengxi wasn’t paying attention, nudged her, and asked, “Isn’t it your turn to drink?”
“Jianqing,” Qiu Mengxi stood up, walked towards An Jianqing with a glass of wine, and said with a smile, “I’m almost drunk, and they still want to punish me. Drink this one for me.”
“Okay,” An Jianqing smiled, took the glass, and drank it in one go.
Ning Xuechu’s pleasant mood was agitated by this drink. She tugged at An Jianqing’s sleeve and said concernedly, “Sister, drinking too much is bad for your health. You should drink less.”
“What does a child know? It’s Jianqing’s birthday today, so she should naturally drink her fill,” one person said with a laugh.
The others chimed in agreement.
“What if she gets drunk?” Ning Xuechu asked softly.
“If she gets drunk, she’ll just sleep here. We’re all Alphas, it’s no big deal,” someone retorted loudly, their words carrying a hint of alcohol.
“Xuechu, don’t worry,” An Jianqing gently reassured her, looking at the crowd and saying, “She’s a very important person to me. You mustn’t bully her.”
“How dare we bully President An’s person?” The crowd immediately started teasing and joking.
Ning Xuechu’s face flushed, and she nervously lowered her head, seemingly unaccustomed to being teased.
An Jianqing tilted her head to glance at her, then tightened her grip slightly, saying in a voice only they could hear, “Don’t be scared, Xuechu. They just like to mess around; there’s no ill intention.”
Ning Xuechu nodded obediently, shrinking back a little behind An Jianqing, like a shy young wife hiding behind An Jianqing.
She lowered her head, looking at their clasped hands. A comforting warmth passed through her skin to her heart, easing her discomfort.
“Jianqing, is this child really not your little girlfriend?” Qiu Mengxi asked, her smiling eyes turning cold as they swept over Ning Xuechu.
Ning Xuechu felt the woman’s hostility and shivered in fear, leaning even closer to An Jianqing.
The others, hearing this, stopped their laughter and looked curiously at An Jianqing.
“Jianqing, you’ve been single for so many years. If you have a little girlfriend, just be honest about it. We won’t laugh at you.”
“Don’t talk nonsense. My relationship with Xuechu isn’t what you think. We’re not relatives, but closer than relatives,” An Jianqing explained.
This answer was as good as saying nothing. The others knew there would be no more results if they continued to press, so they instantly lost interest and instead started pulling An Jianqing to drink.
Ning Xuechu didn’t drink alcohol, and a glass of juice was handed to her, and she was assigned to the side.
She wasn’t loud or troublesome, quietly drinking her juice, watching An Jianqing compete in drinking with the group.
In a place where others wouldn’t notice, she saw Qiu Mengxi deliberately getting close to An Jianqing.
The two sat close together, and physical contact was inevitable. Qiu Mengxi constantly encouraged drinking, occasionally even pouring wine directly down An Jianqing’s throat.
As a result, there was more physical contact, which made Ning Xuechu unhappy. She drank the juice like alcohol, glass after glass.
What she didn’t tell An Jianqing was that she could drink, and her alcohol tolerance was quite good.
By the end, everyone was drunk, some already sprawled on the sofa.
Now, only An Jianqing and Qiu Mengxi could barely stand, but judging by their consciousness, they probably wouldn’t last much longer.
“Jianqing, they’re useless. They got drunk so quickly. Let’s keep drinking,” Qiu Mengxi staggered to her feet, reaching for the wine on the table.
But the wine bottle seemed to have grown legs, constantly moving forward. She chased after the bottle, accidentally bumped into the table corner, and fell to the ground, immediately losing consciousness.
Ning Xuechu swayed the wine bottle in her hand and tossed it aside.
She walked to the sofa, looked at the hazy-eyed person, reached out to support her, and walked steadily out.
She placed An Jianqing in the passenger seat and helped her fasten her seatbelt.
Ning Xuechu turned the key, preparing to start the car, when suddenly the person beside her unbuckled her seatbelt and lunged onto her.
The drunken person had no consciousness, acting solely on the momentum of the alcohol. This directly pressed Ning Xuechu back against the seat.
Ning Xuechu had to lean back.
The cramped space was very crowded for two people. Ning Xuechu adjusted the seat to create a little more legroom.
As she moved, the person on her also moved, shifting from being in her arms to directly sitting on her lap.
Ning Xuechu could look up and see the person’s cheeks flushed crimson, her hazy eyes shining with a beautiful luster, and those lips, moistened by wine, appeared vivid and enticing, as if inviting a taste.
Ning Xuechu’s throat tightened, and her heartbeat uncontrollably accelerated.
She was an Alpha; how could she feel attracted to another Alpha like this?
Ning Xuechu bit her lip, trying to stay clear-headed.
She reached out to support An Jianqing’s hands, intending to move her to the passenger seat.
An Jianqing leaned into her shoulder, mumbling drowsily, “Mengxi… Mengxi…”
These two words were like a thunderbolt striking Ning Xuechu’s heart.
Ning Xuechu’s eyes widened, the coldness in them erupting, her heart filled with uncontrollable, surging anger.
She grabbed the person in front of her fiercely and roared, “Look closely, who exactly am I?”
“Mengxi…” Red lips parted, still the same hateful answer.
The anger in Ning Xuechu’s heart swept through her entire body, driving away her last shred of reason, consuming her entire mind.
Her eyes flushed red, staring intently at the person sitting on her, moving closer little by little, wanting those hazy eyes to see her clearly.
The two got closer and closer, their breaths mingling. Her reflection filled those eyes.
Ning Xuechu hadn’t been drinking, yet at this moment, she felt somewhat intoxicated, uncontrollably wanting to kiss those moist red lips.
As the distance narrowed, with their lips almost touching, Ning Xuechu suddenly snapped awake and quickly retreated.
She reached up and touched the corner of her lips; it seemed to carry the scent of alcohol.
Ning Xuechu quickly opened the window, trying to clear her head.
What was she doing?
She was trying to kiss another Alpha, just like her?
Moreover, this woman was occupying the Ning family’s assets. Her goal was to reclaim those assets. She couldn’t let this woman cloud her judgment.
Ning Xuechu calmed down and placed An Jianqing back in the passenger seat.
“Xuechu, I’m cold…” An Jianqing’s eyes were closed, and her body shivered slightly.
Hearing her own name, Ning Xuechu couldn’t help but chuckle, a tenderness in her eyes that she herself didn’t realize.
Closing the window, Ning Xuechu took off her jacket and covered An Jianqing with it.
She reached out, brushed away the hair falling on An Jianqing’s face, gazed at her beautiful sleeping face, and her fingers gradually moved down to those rosy lips.
“Sister, your lips are so soft. If you were a delicate and soft Omega, perhaps I would like you.”
Her soft words quickly dissipated into the air.
