 - Chapter 13 - A Change of Heart

She suddenly opened her eyes, her mind in a state of high tension that even overshadowed the effects of drunkenness.
When she saw that she was in her own room, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Her clothes were intact, and her scent glands were not emitting Omega pheromones.
She had always been very careful in the past, not getting drunk outside to prevent her Omega pheromones from being discovered.
This time, those people had been too boisterous, plying her with drink after drink, and before she knew it, she was drunk.
An Jianqing got out of bed and opened the window, gazing at the dark night outside.
“Sister, you’re awake? How are you feeling?” A concerned voice came from beside her.
An Jianqing turned to look and saw Ning Xuechu standing on the balcony in thin pajamas.
Her slender figure appeared fragile, as if a gust of wind could blow her over.
“Xuechu, did you bring me back?” An Jianqing asked, feeling nervous.
She was a little worried that she might have let slip that she wasn’t an Alpha while drunk.
“Yes, Sister,” Ning Xuechu replied with a smile, half-truthfully explaining, “Everyone else was drunk at the time, and only you, Sister, could still stand. But after we got in the car, Sister fell asleep. Thankfully, I have a driver’s license, so I could drive.”
“Thank you, Xuechu,” An Jianqing smiled lightly, not doubting her words at all.
In her heart, Ning Xuechu was a well-behaved, sensible, and somewhat introverted child who would never lie.
She prepared to return to her room, glanced at Ning Xuechu, and said, “Xuechu, it’s windy outside. Go back inside and rest.”
“Okay, Sister,” Ning Xuechu replied with a smile.
Under An Jianqing’s watchful eye, she turned and went back to her room.
After being exposed to the cold wind outside for over an hour, Ning Xuechu was completely sober and had also figured some things out.
Since An Jianqing could like an Alpha, why couldn’t that Alpha be her?
If she could win An Jianqing’s heart, wouldn’t it be even easier to reclaim the family assets?
Ning Xuechu used her phone to search online for tips and tricks on how to pursue someone, writing down the answers she found in her notebook.
She diligently took four or five pages of notes, then carefully compared them to An Jianqing’s situation, crossing out any useless information.
As for what the teacher on the podium was saying, she didn’t hear a single word.
With thirty minutes left until the last class ended, Ning Xuechu sent a text message to An Jianqing, “Sister, can you pick me up today?”
An Jianqing saw the message, feeling a little surprised and happy, and quickly replied with a ‘Yes’.
This was the first time Ning Xuechu had actively asked her to come to school. To get there earlier, An Jianqing uncharacteristically left work twenty minutes early.
It took only ten minutes to drive from her company to Ning Xuechu’s school.
An Jianqing didn’t tell Ning Xuechu about leaving work early.
After class, Ning Xuechu bought two jin of cherries, carried them in one hand, and slowly walked towards the school gate.
She knew An Jianqing’s usual work-off time and also knew that she often worked overtime, so it was impossible for her to arrive so quickly.
Ning Xuechu stood at the school gate and was slightly surprised to see the familiar car and person.
She quickly reacted, flashed a happy smile, and ran over with the cherries.
“Sister…” Ning Xuechu happily called out and threw herself into An Jianqing’s arms.
An Jianqing was a little stunned, but instinctively caught the body in her embrace. “Xuechu, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, I just feel so happy to see Sister,” Ning Xuechu looked up, her smile radiant.
An Jianqing felt a little strange.
Students passing by cast curious and surprised glances, and some even whispered.
“Her girlfriend is so beautiful, and she’s a high-ranking Alpha.”
“I really envy her. An ordinary Omega actually managed to find such an excellent Alpha.”
The murmurs from the crowd drifted over with the wind, and a strange feeling crossed An Jianqing’s heart.
She subtly pulled back, creating some distance between them, and said with a smile, “Let’s get in the car.”
Ning Xuechu obediently complied, got into the car, and handed over the cherries she was holding. “Sister, try some. I’ve already washed them.”
“Thank you, Xuechu,” An Jianqing picked one up and put it in her mouth.
The sweet and sour taste spread in her mouth, making her mood pleasant.
An Jianqing’s eyebrows curved, and she started the car.
Ning Xuechu watched quietly, a smile playing on her lips.
After the car had driven some distance, Ning Xuechu deliberately found a topic and asked, “Sister, what kind of person is Miss Qiu?”
Hearing this question, An Jianqing’s heart tightened, and her fingers unconsciously tapped the steering wheel.
Her inner turmoil prevented her from thinking rationally.
At this moment, she couldn’t determine whether Ning Xuechu was asking this question because she had developed feelings for Qiu Mengxi or simply out of casual curiosity.
After a moment of silence, An Jianqing counter-asked, “Xuechu, why are you suddenly asking about Mengxi?”
“I heard she’s Sister’s best friend, and we might see each other often in the future. Perhaps knowing more about her will help us get along better,” Ning Xuechu replied with a smile, her eyes innocent.
“Mengxi is a very excellent Alpha. She’s sociable and well-liked and respected by others,” An Jianqing said.
This answer was very formal, without any personal emotion mixed in.
Clearly, Ning Xuechu wasn’t satisfied with this answer. She continued to ask, “Sister, you and Miss Qiu are friends. You must know the real Miss Qiu, right?”
“The real…” An Jianqing murmured, lowering her gaze.
She had known Qiu Mengxi for almost twenty years.
The Ning couple had brought her from the orphanage, raised her as their own daughter, and often took her to high-society banquets.
Although they hadn’t publicly declared her as the Ning family’s adopted daughter, nor had they completed the legal adoption process, anyone with eyes could see that her position in the Ning family was unique.
At one such banquet, she met Qiu Mengxi.
When everyone else mocked and ostracized her, only Qiu Mengxi was willing to play with her and even helped her chase away the children who bullied her.
At that time, she had decided that Qiu Mengxi would be her best friend for life.
When this friendship began to change, she herself wasn’t sure.
But she was very clear about one thing: she would never tell anyone about her feelings.
Even if one day she regained her Omega identity, she would not engage in any behavior with Qiu Mengxi that transcended friendship.
Qiu Mengxi was the heir of the Qiu family, and the person she would marry in the future would surely be an Omega of equal standing.
She was just an orphan. Even if she could manage the Ning family through her own abilities, she would still be looked down upon in terms of family background and status.
And Qiu Mengxi was promiscuous and flirtatious, having met countless Omegas. She didn’t seem like someone who would be obsessed with love.
When she pursued someone, it was grand and public, as if she wanted everyone to know. But once she got bored, she would break up without hesitation.
If anyone clung to her, Qiu Mengxi would use money and force to make the other person give up.
Love, in Qiu Mengxi’s eyes, was a ridiculous joke.
“Xuechu, you and she are from two different worlds,” An Jianqing said softly after a long silence.
Ning Xuechu’s lips twitched slightly.
Clearly, An Jianqing had misinterpreted her meaning, thinking that her inquiry about Qiu Mengxi’s situation meant she was interested in Qiu Mengxi.
She was an Alpha; how could she like another Alpha?
However, continuing this conversation would undoubtedly expose her true intentions.
Ning Xuechu wisely shut her mouth, changed the subject, and began to talk about interesting things at school.
An Jianqing listened attentively, responding occasionally.
The atmosphere in the car became filled with laughter, and both of them tacitly agreed not to mention a third person again.
After returning to the villa and having dinner, Ning Xuechu opened the cabinet and saw a closet full of beautiful clothes. She picked out a loose-fitting nightgown.
She tried it on in front of the mirror, and with just a slight shrug of her shoulders, the clothing would slide off.
Ning Xuechu smiled contentedly, picked up the clothes, and left the room.
She knocked on An Jianqing’s door and said nervously, “Sister, I think the water heater in my bathroom is broken. Can I take a shower in your room?”
An Jianqing paused, wanting to refuse, but seeing Ning Xuechu’s pitiful expression, she hesitated and then nodded.
“Thank you, Sister,” Ning Xuechu’s eyes lit up, and she happily rushed into the bathroom.
Watching her childlike behavior, An Jianqing couldn’t help but chuckle, and also found her own earlier worrying amusing.
Such a pure and cute child, how could she be like those scheming Omegas who use little tricks to entice Alphas?
Having been in the Ning family for so long, the child had never shown any pheromone scent in front of her.
Her grades at school were always at the top, and she had never been in a relationship with anyone. Perhaps she simply didn’t understand these adult matters.
Ning Xuechu lay in the bathtub, carefully considering the online tips.
Some said that invisible temptation was the most sophisticated form of seduction, while those who directly stripped and threw themselves at someone were weak and couldn’t truly capture an Alpha’s heart.
On the contrary, after the initial novelty wore off, they would inevitably be abandoned.
Ning Xuechu finished her bath, put on her nightgown, and practiced the most natural seductive poses in front of the mirror.
But no matter what she did, there was always an element of deliberation.
In the mirror, her cheeks were flushed crimson from the steam, her dark, bright eyes had a beautiful watery sheen, half of a fair, tender shoulder was exposed, and her damp black hair dripped water droplets onto her smooth skin.
Innocence subtly revealed a hint of sexy charm.
“This should look natural now,” Ning Xuechu said, looking at the mirror with a satisfied smile.
She reached for the doorknob, intentionally slowing her movements as she opened the bathroom door.
Her field of vision expanded little by little; she knew An Jianqing would gradually see her appearance.
The moment the door was fully open, their eyes met.
Ning Xuechu reached up to rub her damp hair, a natural smile radiating on her face. “Sister, I’ve finished my bath. It feels so good.”
Looking at the young and beautiful body before her, a hint of awe flashed in An Jianqing’s eyes.
