- Chapter 2 - Taking Her Back
Ning Xuechu lowered her eyes and cautiously opened the door.
She opened it just wide enough for the woman to pass through.
As soon as the woman entered, Ning Xuechu immediately closed the door and alertly spoke, “Who are you? Why are you looking for me?”
The woman didn’t reply. Instead, she surveyed the dilapidated little room.
There was no air conditioning, no underfloor heating, and a dim light illuminated the room, giving it a faint sense of sadness.
The cramped space contained some simple daily necessities, and a makeshift fabric wardrobe held some old clothes.
Though shabby, it was meticulously clean and tidy.
A flicker of heartache crossed the woman’s beautiful eyes.
She turned around and, seeing the vigilant, deer-like eyes, her heart instantly softened.
The woman wanted to walk over and embrace Ning Xuechu, but she restrained herself at the last moment, curving her lips into a smile. She softly said, “I’m your older sister. My name is An Jianqing, and I’m an S-class Alpha…”
Her words carried an almost imperceptible hint of excitement and joy.
“I don’t have an older sister, and certainly not an S-class Alpha sister.” Ning Xuechu seemed provoked, loudly interrupting the woman. Her thin chest heaved rapidly.
Catching the look of surprise in the woman’s eyes, she bit her teeth and repeated, “I’m an orphan, an ordinary Omega, with no family.”
She emphasized every word heavily, the distinct black and white of her eyes tinged red with emotion.
In the dim light, those eyes held a startling glint of tears.
A cold gust of wind blew through the window crack, but Ning Xuechu didn’t feel cold at all. Her gaze stubbornly fixed on the woman before her. “My parents are dead. I have no family, and I don’t need family.”
The woman heard the sorrow and resentment in her words, and her heart clenched painfully. She softened her voice to soothe her, “Xuechu, those were your adoptive parents. Your real parents were the former chairpersons of the Ning Group. Your father was an A+ class Alpha, and your mother was an A+ class Omega. Before they passed away, they made me promise to find you.”
“How could two A+ class Alphas give birth to an ordinary Omega?” Ning Xuechu’s guard deepened, her voice becoming slightly hoarse like a small animal encountering danger. “What is your motive?”
“Xuechu, don’t be nervous. I mean no harm.” The woman quickly reassured her, taking a stack of documents from her expensive handbag and placing them on the table. She slowly said, “Take a look. These are all proof.”
Ning Xuechu’s eyes flickered at her words.
She glanced at the woman, and seeing that she didn’t intend to approach, she cautiously picked up the documents.
Her pupils gradually dilated as she scanned through them. Her cold fingers began to tremble.
The documents showed that her NDA match with the deceased chairperson of the Ning Group was 99%.
This number meant that she was indeed the Ning chairperson’s daughter.
Ning Xuechu gasped, her fingers trembling so much she could barely hold the documents steady.
She wanted to speak, but her throat felt constricted, unable to make a sound.
“Xuechu, you’re the sister I’ve been looking for all these years. Come home with me.” The woman’s soft voice came from beside her.
It was coaxing, and carried an enchanting allure.
With a ‘thud,’ the documents in Ning Xuechu’s hand fell to the hard floor.
She shook her head, a bitter smile on her lips, and screamed with all her might, “This game isn’t fun, it’s not fun at all… You’re an Alpha, you’re rich, so you can just play with people like this?”
Each question was accompanied by a shrill cry, as if she was on the verge of breaking down, ready to completely collapse at any second.
The people outside heard the commotion and immediately broke down the door.
Before the bodyguards could speak, An Jianqing turned back with sharp eyes and coldly ordered, “Get out!”
The bodyguards were startled. They exchanged glances and exited in unison.
Only the two women remained in the room, and the cold wind mercilessly poured in through the cracks.
An Jianqing stood for a moment, then took off her jacket, walked over, and draped it over Ning Xuechu’s thin shoulders. She gently said, “Xuechu, I know this is hard for you to accept right now. It’s okay, I’ll give you two days to process it. There’s my business card in the pocket of this jacket. You can call me when you’ve thought it through.”
A pleasant Alpha scent wafted from beside her. Ning Xuechu’s body tensed, instinctively stepping back, and the jacket infused with the Alpha’s scent instantly fell to the floor.
She lowered her eyes, not responding, but her eyes were red-rimmed, and she bit her teeth tightly to prevent tears from falling.
Seeing this, An Jianqing realized that her Alpha scent was stimulating the Omega.
However, Omegas should be attracted, not repelled. But considering that Ning Xuechu needed time to process this shocking news, she didn’t think much of it.
“Xuechu, I’m leaving now. You can call me anytime if you need anything.” An Jianqing stood at the door, speaking to the lost-looking person inside the room.
Ning Xuechu looked up, her focus gradually returning to her eyes, finally reflecting the figure of an Alpha.
The door slowly closed, and she was once again left alone in the room.
Ning Xuechu looked at the jacket, picked it up, threw it into the trash can, and then went out to work.
Ning Xuechu felt completely dazed.
She didn’t know how she had left the house, nor if she had truly planned the cheapest route.
All she knew was that when she came to, she was already washing dishes at her part-time job for the night.
Ning Xuechu stared at the water in the sink, mechanically washing plates.
Her mood at the moment was like stirred water, unable to settle.
If someone had told her that she was the daughter of a wealthy family, abducted as a child.
That her rich parents had been looking for her and left a vast family fortune waiting for her to inherit.
She would have scoffed, calling it nonsense.
But now, something even more exaggerated than a TV drama was happening to her.
Now, if she just nodded, she would be a wealthy young lady, with inexhaustible riches.
No longer dependent on others, no longer wearing worn-out clothes and being mocked.
She could even enjoy the life others strove to achieve without having to work hard.
Ning Xuechu was tempted, and her mind was in turmoil.
In this moment of need, she couldn’t find anyone to confide in or discuss with.
“Xiao Ning, work diligently, don’t daydream, or the supervisor will scold you,” the dishwashing aunt beside her reminded her.
Ning Xuechu snapped back to attention and focused on her work.
It was past eleven after her part-time job, and there was one last bus she could take home.
Ning Xuechu looked down at her fingers, wrinkled from prolonged soaking in water.
She forced a bitter smile.
A cold gust of wind blew past, and Ning Xuechu involuntarily hugged herself, jogging towards the bus stop.
Looking at the desolate, chilly street, she still felt that nothing was real.
The woman’s words kept replaying in her mind, unsettling her already troubled heart.
Ning Xuechu took a deep breath, trying to drive out the chaotic thoughts in her mind.
She turned her head. An expensive private car had pulled up beside her.
The window rolled down, revealing a clear and beautiful face—it was the Alpha woman who had disturbed her peace of mind.
An Jianqing.
“Xuechu, get in. I’ll take you back,” An Jianqing said softly from the driver’s seat.
Her fingers, adorned with exquisite nails, rested on the steering wheel, looking elegant and noble.
Ning Xuechu’s eyes flickered. She lowered her head without speaking, her pale fingers tightly clutching the thin hem of her clothes.
Seeing this, An Jianqing smiled gently, got out of the car herself, walked over, opened the passenger door, and softly said, “Get in. It’s warm inside the car.”
A gentle voice with a faint fragrance brushed her earlobe. Ning Xuechu’s heart trembled, and she took a step back.
Under An Jianqing’s smiling gaze, she lowered her head and got into the car.
The car was very warm, and the soothing music brought a relaxing warmth.
But Ning Xuechu dared not relax. Her eyes were fixed straight ahead, and her hands rested on her lap.
She sat rigidly, her spine straight, like a cat in a state of alert.
“Xuechu, you don’t have to be so nervous,” An Jianqing said with a smile, leaning closer.
A pleasant scent filled her nostrils, and the Alpha’s aura enveloped her.
Ning Xuechu instantly tensed, her heart rate quickening.
Her widened eyes were fixed on the exquisite profile of the woman’s face, so close to her.
As the Alpha beside her leaned closer, her breathing grew more strained, almost stopping.
With a soft ‘clink,’ An Jianqing straightened up, her eyebrows curving as she revealed a gentle smile. “The seatbelt is fastened. I’m going to drive now. Xuechu, if you feel tired, you can lean back and rest for a while. I’ll wake you when we arrive.”
In just a few seconds, Ning Xuechu broke out in a cold sweat.
The car started, speeding along the empty streets.
Ning Xuechu turned her head, looking at the colorful night view outside the window, gradually falling into deep thought.
Things she had envied others for countless times were now happening to her.
Yet, she felt no happiness, only endless panic and worry.
She regretted it a little; she had gotten into a stranger’s car without any precautions.
Especially since this woman was a high-ranking Alpha.
“Xuechu, would you like some milk tea?” An Jianqing pulled the car over and asked softly.
Before Ning Xuechu could answer, she heard the sound of the door opening beside her.
Watching the figure disappear into the cold wind, her eyes deepened.
After a while, she pinched the back of her hand hard and whispered to herself, “It’s just buying you a cup of milk tea. Are you so easily moved by a stranger?”
The pain brought her back to her senses, and her face returned to its emotionless state.
An Jianqing returned with the milk tea, got back into the car, and handed it over, smiling as she said, “You used to love mango-flavored things when you were little. I bought this mango-flavored milk tea, I hope you like it.”
“Thank you, I’m allergic to mango,” Ning Xuechu replied politely and distantly, not reaching out.
She lowered her head, looking at the red spot on the back of her hand, suppressing the longing in her heart.
Hearing this, An Jianqing paused, then immediately swapped it for a peach-flavored one, asking with a soft smile, “You’re not allergic to peach flavor, are you?”
Ning Xuechu swallowed, her head still down, not speaking.
Seeing this, An Jianqing’s lips curved into a smile. She reached out and took Ning Xuechu’s hesitant hand, placing the peach-flavored milk tea in it.
Instant warmth spread through her palm, and the scent of peach lingered in her nostrils. Ning Xuechu suddenly felt a thirst in her throat.
She tried hard to resist, clutching the cup to her chest without drinking.
It was just a cup of milk tea; she absolutely could not fall for it.
Seeing her stubborn resistance, An Jianqing couldn’t help but find her a little adorable.
After dropping her off, she leaned out of the car window and smiled gently, “Xuechu, call me if you need anything.”
Ning Xuechu gripped the milk tea, looking at the car as it drove away, her expression dark and unreadable.
