- Chapter 4 - Adapting to a New Home
The Ning family was a well-known prominent family in the area, with assets in the tens of billions. They owned many companies, and their industries covered an extremely wide range.
When Ning Xuechu first saw the Ning family’s villa, her eyes widened in surprise.
Despite her best efforts to suppress her inner curiosity, she couldn’t help but secretly look around.
It was simply too large, even bigger than the mansions depicted in TV dramas, completely exceeding her imagination.
“Xuechu, this is your room. You’ll live here from now on. No matter what happens, you can come to me; I live in the room next to yours.” An Jianqing led Ning Xuechu on a tour, finally stopping in front of a beautifully furnished room.
Actually, a household helper could have done this.
But considering it was Ning Xuechu’s first time here, and An Jianqing was the most familiar person to her, it was best for An Jianqing to introduce everything.
“Thank you,” Ning Xuechu said, lowering her head, her voice meek and soft.
She was like a rabbit venturing into an unfamiliar forest, curious about everything, yet at the same time, extremely cautious.
“Xuechu, please rest well,” An Jianqing said with a smile.
She turned to leave, but suddenly, her sleeve was clutched.
She tilted her head and saw a pair of timid eyes, with bright light containing a hint of apprehension, as if afraid of being abandoned.
A pang of heartache crossed An Jianqing’s heart, and she offered a comforting smile.
“Can I call you Sister?” Ning Xuechu bit her lip slightly.
As soon as she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes, like shimmering water reflecting moonlight.
It was beautiful.
An Jianqing’s eyes flickered, and a wave of joy spread throughout her body.
She had searched for this younger sister for over ten years, hoping that one day she would hear that ‘Sister,’ then she would be worthy of her adoptive parents.
“Of course you can. We are the closest people in this world,” An Jianqing tilted her head slightly, her clear pupils filled with an unyielding tenderness.
“Sister…” Ning Xuechu smiled happily, her eyes sparkling a few times, finally gathering courage to embrace the Alpha in front of her.
She didn’t dare to use force, only gently hugging.
Even so, the Alpha’s warm, pleasant scent enveloped her whole body.
Making her unable to help but crave it.
At such close proximity, she could feel the softness and sweetness of this body even more.
If a true Omega embraced a high-ranking Alpha, they would surely feel their heart race and their face flush.
Unfortunately, she was not a true Omega.
“Xuechu, go take a look and see if you like this room. If there’s anything you’d like changed, just tell me,” An Jianqing said softly, reaching out to gently stroke Ning Xuechu’s soft hair.
Seeing that Ning Xuechu didn’t refuse, the smile on her face became even brighter.
“Okay, Sister…” Ning Xuechu nodded obediently, her eyes twinkling with starlight as she uttered the words ‘Sister.’
An Jianqing was slightly startled, then quickly recovered.
Although her younger sister was just an ordinary Omega, her delicate and small features were no less captivating than those of a high-ranking Omega.
Even in simple clothes, she would still stand out in a crowd.
However, her figure was too thin.
When she hugged her, she could clearly feel that the person in her arms was skin and bones. She would definitely need to put on some weight.
Ning Xuechu looked at the dreamlike room before her, covering her lips in surprise.
She turned back to An Jianqing, her eyes full of gratitude and happiness. “Sister, thank you. I’ve never seen such a beautiful room.”
“Don’t be so polite; as long as you like it,” An Jianqing’s lips curved slightly, a gentle smile gracing her face, her eyes filled with affectionate indulgence.
The weeks of personal preparation received a positive affirmation at this moment, and a sense of happy satisfaction swelled in her heart.
“I like it very much… I really like it… No one has ever been so kind to me…” Ning Xuechu’s eyes welled up, almost letting tears fall.
Her words were disjointed, with a clear hint of a sob.
An Jianqing immediately felt a pang of heartache and gently comforted her, “Xuechu, don’t worry, everything from the past is over now.”
She had sent people to investigate thoroughly. The couple who adopted Ning Xuechu were very kind, had no children of their own, and had always raised Ning Xuechu as their biological daughter.
Unfortunately, they died in a car accident.
After her adoptive parents passed away, Ning Xuechu could only stay with her uncle’s family.
Her uncle’s family had a child, and they were not good to Ning Xuechu.
When she saw the information, her heart trembled with anger, and for a moment, she thought of many ways to seek justice.
But in the end, she calmed down.
After all, the other party had raised Ning Xuechu for decades; she couldn’t be ungrateful.
Originally, she had planned to give them a sum for raising her, but seeing that woman’s fierce and excessive attitude towards Ning Xuechu, she dismissed that idea.
She would no longer pursue past grievances, but if those people ever bullied Ning Xuechu again, she would absolutely show no mercy.
“Sister, thank you…” Ning Xuechu sobbed, crystal tears hanging on her face.
Her gaunt appearance looked even more pathetic and vulnerable.
An Jianqing’s eyes showed affection. She smiled gently and soothingly, “Xuechu, rest well. I hope you can adapt to life here as soon as possible.”
Ning Xuechu nodded vigorously, her lips gently curved into an obedient smile.
She returned to her room, closed the door, and casually wiped away the tears from her face.
The room was decorated very warmly, with a girlish feel, but Ning Xuechu was not in the mood to appreciate it.
The obedient timidity on her face had long since turned into an emotionless expression, and her lively eyes became cold.
Everything in this room seemed to have been arranged beforehand, meaning this woman was very confident that she would return to the Ning family.
This chess game was within the opponent’s control.
“I’ve seen these petty tricks before; I won’t fall for them a second time,” Ning Xuechu scoffed lightly, her gaze sweeping around with disdain.
When her uncle’s family adopted her, they acted enthusiastic and sincere in front of outsiders, saying they would raise her like their own daughter.
But within a few days, they unreasonably seized the inheritance left by her adoptive parents and treated her harshly and bullied her in various ways.
The current An Jianqing was no different from those people.
She was merely trying to deceive her and use her.
She wouldn’t fall for it.
After living in the Ning family for a week, Ning Xuechu finally adapted to her new identity.
Every day, she woke up to a rich and delicious breakfast waiting for her, with servants attending to her as she ate.
She no longer had to worry about being hungry, nor did she have to think about saving money by eating only steamed buns until she felt nauseous.
When she went out, a driver picked her up and dropped her off. She no longer had to squeeze onto public buses like sardines in a can, forced to endure those unpleasant smells.
Everything was so wonderful it felt unreal, yet it was genuinely happening.
Ning Xuechu had breakfast, dressed in high-end, understated designer clothes, and went out with her original school bag.
“Xuechu, I’ll drive you to school today,” An Jianqing put down her utensils, gracefully wiping her mouth with a silk handkerchief.
Upon hearing this, a flicker of joy appeared in Ning Xuechu’s eyes. She then timidly lowered her head and softly said, “Sister, you have to go to work. Will this be too much trouble for you?”
“No, it won’t. There’s nothing much going on today, so it’s fine if I go a little later,” An Jianqing smiled gently, her expression tender.
After saying this, she led the way out.
Ning Xuechu’s face showed a small burst of happiness, and she obediently followed.
Sitting in the passenger seat, she fastened her seatbelt, her sparkling eyes still showing a hint of anxiety about bothering others. She softly said, “Sister, I can still go by myself.”
“Xuechu, you don’t have to be so polite with me. Today, I want to drive you. I’ve been busy these past few days and haven’t had much time to take care of you properly,” An Jianqing said with a smile, her words containing a hint of guilt.
Ning Xuechu quickly shook her head, her thin face filled with apprehension, “Sister, don’t say that. You’ve been very good to me. If it weren’t for you, I would be…”
Her voice trailed off, becoming tearful. She quickly bit her lip, not letting her sobs escape.
An Jianqing didn’t like weak, crying people.
But every time she saw Ning Xuechu’s cautious eyes, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache.
Ning Xuechu had suffered too many grievances over the years, and An Jianqing wanted to make up for everything in the past.
“Xuechu, I’m your sister. It’s only right for me to be good to you,” An Jianqing smiled gently and started the car.
Ning Xuechu was instantly stunned. When she reacted, the tears in her eyes became even brighter.
She lowered her head, her long eyelashes hiding the tears that threatened to fall.
Her heart was pounding somewhat violently.
Ning Xuechu quietly tightened her fingers, her overly long nails almost digging into her flesh. The slight pain gradually calmed her heartbeat.
Hearing that last sentence, she knew in her heart it was false, but she still couldn’t help but want to believe it.
But in this world, would anyone truly care for her sincerely, regardless of money or fame?
Ning Xuechu didn’t know. She lowered her head even further, clenching her hands tighter.
An Jianqing took in this small gesture.
She could feel that Ning Xuechu was lonely in the villa.
Even with many servants attending to her, the child’s heart was probably still very helpless.
Every time she saw her, a flicker of joy would appear on her thin face, as if a drowning person had found a lifeline.
The light that bloomed in her eyes would often pierce An Jianqing’s heart, making her want to compensate her even better.
“Xuechu, we’re here,” An Jianqing said, opening the car door with a gentle smile.
Her beautiful face and elegant, noble demeanor immediately attracted many curious gazes.
Ning Xuechu got out of the car, instantly feeling many curious and envious eyes cast upon her.
She had once looked on with such envy at others emerging from cars.
Today, she was the object of envy, and a slight sense of happiness arose within her.
“Sister, I’m going to class. Please drive safely,” Ning Xuechu said with an obedient smile, sounding sensible.
An Jianqing’s heart warmed. She reached out and gently stroked Ning Xuechu’s hair. “At school, pay attention to nutrition, buy yourself more good food, and never save money by depriving yourself.”
Hearing that last sentence, Ning Xuechu’s heart tightened.
It seemed that many of her affairs had been thoroughly investigated.
In that case, she wondered if the Alpha in front of her knew that she was pretending to be an Omega.
Ning Xuechu felt a little flustered, but she still showed a sweet smile. “I understand, Sister. I’ll eat well.”
An Jianqing was very generous to her, giving her 50,000 yuan in pocket money each month.
On her second day at the Ning family, she took her to buy various expensive items, spending money freely and generously, as if she were only spending a string of numbers.
She had to admit that an Alpha who was willing to spend money could easily inspire goodwill.
But she wasn’t one of those naive Omegas.
What she wanted was far more than just this pocket money.
The Ning family’s assets, she was determined to have them.
Ning Xuechu’s lips curved into a smile, and her eyes turned cold as her gaze fell upon a certain spot.
