Chapter 16: The Wedding of the Desolate Village (14)
Close Your Eyes
“Don’t step out of the room.”
“Su Man” looked out the window, repeating this warning to them, even though she knew she probably couldn’t persuade them.
The moment Jiang Nan’s foot was about to step out the door, she paused, but still went out. Then she heard a sigh from the other person, and “Su Man” behind her disappeared.
Jiang Nan walked to the front gate of the courtyard, looking at the darkness and the fluttering red silks, her brows slightly furrowed.
The slender figure standing in the courtyard had skin that was pathologically pale. Her white hair was as pure and sacred as moonlight, yet it seemed so fragile it made one’s heart ache.
Jiang Nan was also an NPC. She didn’t know if it was because of this, but she was different from real players.
So, she waited for a long time, but nothing happened.
“Do you want to hear it?”
At this moment, she heard Luo Ning’s voice from behind her, lazy and casual, bringing with it the fresh scent of jasmine, which was refreshing.
Luo Ning seemed to have read Jiang Nan’s mind. She spoke slowly, her voice laced with a smile, but for some reason, it made people feel at ease.
“Close your eyes.”
Luo Ning came up behind Jiang Nan, leaning slightly forward, pressing against her back. She covered Jiang Nan’s eyes with one hand and spoke near her ear, as if with some inexplicable magic that drew people in, making it impossible to escape.
Jiang Nan could feel the hot breath from the other person near her ear and the frantic pounding of her own heart in her chest.
Her soul trembled at this moment, seemingly extremely excited to get closer to the other person.
“You…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Luo Ning curled her lips and spoke with a hint of doting.
“Listen to me.”
Jiang Nan actually listened to her and closed her eyes.
At this moment, she clearly noticed that the surrounding magnetic field had changed, pressing on her nerves, making her heart palpitate. The smell of bl00d began to fill the air, making her feel nauseous.
After a while, the hand over her eyes was removed. Jiang Nan opened her eyes, and a flash of bewitching red flickered in their depths.
She looked at Luo Ning in confusion, not understanding the other person’s sudden action, but she saw Luo Ning’s curled lips, a confident and flamboyant expression. She spoke slowly.
“Look.”
Luo Ning pointed into the distance, guiding Jiang Nan to look.
Jiang Nan followed the direction of her finger and saw that the originally dark village now had a faint green light burning in every house, making it look eerie and sinister.
The villagers who wouldn’t come out at night walked out of their houses, their eyes hollow and terrifying, looking at their courtyard.
They were staring at the players who had broken the rules and left the main gate.
This was a village of the dead; there were no living people here.
They had also walked out of this gate the night before. Jiang Nan was a bug and was not affected by the instance, but Luo Ning was a normal player. How did she avoid the watchful eyes of all the ghosts? Unless…
Jiang Nan glanced at Luo Ning, her gaze full of scrutiny.
Unless she could control more than just one ghost, but ordered all the ghost villagers in this village to turn their backs so they couldn’t see her who had left the courtyard.
Also, what did Luo Ning just do to her?
But if she didn’t ask, Luo Ning wouldn’t proactively answer her question.
Luo Ning walked out of the courtyard gate first. When she turned back to look at her, her gaze was gentle, as if she were encouraging her.
She reached out to her, smiling like a true deity. Her deity had come to save her.
As if possessed, Jiang Nan was pulled out by her. She only heard the other’s smiling voice, which made her heart tremble.
“You’ll have to walk the rest of the way on your own.”
When Jiang Nan came to her senses, Luo Ning was no longer beside her. All the ghost villagers had turned their backs, pretending not to see her.
At this moment, a faint voice drifted over, seducing people’s hearts.
“Come… come…”
Jiang Nan was stunned. She held her breath and listened for a while, only then confirming that the voice belonged to Nie Yun.
She summoned her blade, hid it in her hand, and walked toward the source of the voice.
A courtyard that looked exactly like the one the players lived in appeared before her. The only difference was that two pale-faced people were hanging by a rope at the entrance. Their hollow eye sockets were lit with green ghostly flames. From a distance, they looked like four strange lanterns.
Jiang Nan slightly lowered her eyes. After adjusting her state, she looked up, her expression apathetic and hollow, as if she had really been seduced.
“Come…”
The voice became more and more hurried, more and more excited, like a hunter eager to see its prey.
The two corpses at the courtyard gate followed her with their hollow eyes as she stepped inside. The moment she completely stepped in, a sinister wind blew, and the door “banged” shut. A hoarse, unpleasant “giggle” came from outside.
The sinister wind blowing through the hall rustled, and the faint green light made the small courtyard look as eerie and sinister as the underworld.
The woman’s skeletal hand was as dry as a chicken’s foot, carrying a chilling coldness. It took the hand of the apathetic, hollow-eyed girl in front of her. The icy touch was like a piece of cold metal, making people involuntarily shrink back.
“My beautiful girl, my bridesmaid, come with me.”
The hoarse, unpleasant voice came again. The sinister wind blew even stronger, her hair lifted slightly, revealing her delicate and fragile neck.
The woman in the darkness, her eyes falling on the person in front of her, a hint of greed flashed in their depths, like a hungry wolf staring intently at its prey.
Her red lips spread into a triumphant grin, all the way to her ears, revealing her bare, white teeth stained with bits of flesh.
Crows circled in the air, surrounding this small courtyard. Each cry was a signal of danger.
The girl followed the woman step by step. The blade in her hand seemed to feel the surrounding danger, and the blade trembled, as if it was excited from not having drunk bl00d for a long time.
The mud under her feet became sticky, making it difficult to move. It was like entering a swamp, sinking deeper with every step.
She looked down and saw that the ground was no longer mud, but a mixture of flesh, bl00d, and bones covering the entire courtyard. Countless bloody hands reached out from underground, flailing their claws, trying to pull her into the ground to sleep forever.
The stench filled her nose. After subtly avoiding the bloody hands, Jiang Nan’s brows furrowed slightly. She looked up at the woman walking impatiently in front of her, and a hint of scrutiny flashed in the depths of her eyes.
Nie Yun seemed very displeased with the bloody hands reaching out. She mercilessly kicked and broke a hand reaching out from the ground, and cursed in a hoarse voice.
“You low-level ghosts, don’t you dare covet the person I’ve set my eyes on.”
Those things might have been afraid of Nie Yun. While she was cursing, they all shrank back underground like quails, not daring to act up again.
What were they afraid of her for? Jiang Nan pondered.
The small courtyard wasn’t big, and Nie Yun quickly led Jiang Nan into the house.
Suddenly, the door of the main house was pushed open, and a panicked-looking woman ran out from inside, pale and disheveled, tightly clutching something hanging from her chest.
When the woman saw Jiang Nan being held by Nie Yun and then faced Nie Yun’s grotesque, inhuman appearance, her breathing stopped for a moment.
Nie Yun’s eyes flashed with a terrifying coldness. She raised her chicken-foot-like fingers, and the bloody hands went to grab her.
Just as the bloody hands were about to grab the woman, she suddenly came back to her senses. There was a look of determination in her eyes as she looked at Jiang Nan. Ignoring the obstruction of the bloody hands, she ran over, trying to pull Jiang Nan away from there.
“It’s very dangerous here.”
The woman’s voice trembled. She seemed to be using all her strength to grab Jiang Nan’s hand, but how could Nie Yun let the woman succeed?
Nie Yun shrieked and told the bloody hands to drag the woman away. Soon, the woman was dragged on the ground, tears welling up in her eyes. She was on the verge of collapsing but still yelled at Jiang Nan.
“Get out of here.”
Jiang Nan’s eyes moved. She looked at the woman who had suddenly appeared. She saw a hint of familiarity on her mud-stained face.
Her gaze fell on the thing the woman was protecting in her hand. The dim light made it hard to see, but after a long time of trying to make it out, she realized the small object was… a camera.
After getting rid of the crazy-looking woman, Nie Yun cursed and then looked at the girl behind her. She forced a fake smile again and led her into the courtyard.
