She Was Sentenced to Life Imprisonment [Unlimited] - Chapter 21
Chapter 21: Beauty Porcelain (3)
Live Human Firing Porcelain
As night fell, a chilly wind blew over everyone, making them shiver.
The warm, yellow candlelight lit up the room, revealing its furnishings. The clean mirror on the woman’s dressing table reflected a huge display shelf opposite, filled with beautifully arranged porcelain pieces. For some reason, they gave off a bone-chilling feeling.
Mother Ci placed the porcelain in her hand on the display shelf, then she satisfiedly stroked the various porcelain pieces on it, stopping at a lotus porcelain placed in the very center.
It was an extremely beautiful lotus. Each petal seemed to be a replica of the lotus in full bloom in the river. The petals were as thin as a cicada’s wings. The patterns on them didn’t look carved on but seemed to have naturally appeared when it was fired, like the veins of a petal.
Jiang Nan walked over and examined it for a moment. Just as she was about to reach out to touch it, Mother Ci noticed. Her gentle expression turned sinister, and she stopped her with a fierce voice.
“You can’t touch it.”
The voice was sharp and piercing. The two men standing close by immediately turned pale for a moment. But when they looked at Mother Ci again, she had returned to her gentle demeanor, which sent a shiver down their spines. They couldn’t help but move further away.
Jiang Nan’s hand paused. She then looked into Mother Ci’s eyes and said.
“It’s very beautiful.”
As if she had received a compliment, Mother Ci’s expression changed back again. But when she looked at the lotus porcelain, there was more of a lingering affection. She said.
“This is the treasure she left behind.”
She?
Mother Ci’s attitude made Yi Fei, who had been silent for a long time, think for a moment. Finally, his gaze also landed on the lotus porcelain. A hint of something hidden flashed in his eyes behind his glasses. He looked at the two men who were circling Mother Ci and let out a cold laugh, but in an instant, he returned to his timid and shy appearance.
The porcelain was fired, and the sky had already darkened. Jiang Nan walked to the door, looked up at the drizzle reflecting the light, and casually grabbed a paper umbrella before stepping out.
Luo Ning, who was still toying with something over there, saw this and followed her out. Jiang Nan gave her a look, but Luo Ning didn’t seem to care. She even snatched the umbrella from Jiang Nan’s hand and held it up for her.
The two graceful figures stepped into the rain. The darkness allowed evil to fester.
Shi Hui watched the two of them about to disappear into the distance. A hint of something unknown flashed in the depths of his eyes, and he also left the courtyard.
Li Feng’s beady eyes glanced at the porcelain pieces in the room. Something flashed in his mind, and he also followed them out, not knowing where he was going.
Seeing that everyone had left, a look of confidence flashed in Yi Fei’s eyes. He walked over to Mother Ci, looking pure and harmless, and said.
“Sister, can you make a porcelain for me?”
Although he wasn’t handsome, his face was fair and delicate. Paired with his expression, others would only think of him as an ignorant younger brother.
Mother Ci turned her head, the curve of her smile unchanged, but her voice had become cold and heartless.
“No, I don’t like liars.”
Her eyes were deep, as if she could see through people’s hearts, which made people’s hearts palpitate.
Hearing this, Yi Fei’s expression stiffened. He didn’t know the danger. Facing those eyes, he seemed to feel guilty, and his voice suddenly rose.
“I’m not!”
He didn’t know that he looked like a clown trying to justify himself right now.
The candlelight flickered, and the shadows on the wall were twisted and terrifying, like devils about to crawl out of hell.
A soft laugh, extremely sarcastic.
…
When Jiang Nan touched the umbrella again, she felt that something was wrong. The cold and smooth texture was not like an umbrella. When she looked down, she realized she had grabbed a porcelain umbrella.
How much did a person have to love porcelain for even their umbrella to be made of it?
She was still hesitating whether the porcelain umbrella could be opened when Luo Ning snatched it and opened it for her.
Luo Ning looked at the surface of the umbrella and said as if praising it.
“A rather unique umbrella.”
Jiang Nan turned her head to look at her. Something flashed in her eyes as she said.
“Did you hear that?”
“Hear what?” Luo Ning looked as if she didn’t understand what Jiang Nan was talking about.
But Jiang Nan knew that even though Luo Ning seemed to have been bullying the porcelain doll over there, she must have heard what Jiang Nan heard. It was only the others, who were too close to Mother Ci, that didn’t have the confidence to notice.
Jiang Nan’s gaze fell into the distance. Her calm eyes seemed to not stir a single ripple. She spoke slowly, with just a few words, but they were terrifying.
“Live humans firing porcelain.”
Luo Ning laughed, her tone ambiguous.
The raindrops fell, their clear and pleasant sounds like a melody.
The ground under their feet had become hard at some point. Everything around them had taken on the texture of porcelain at some point.
The town’s alleys were complex and intertwined. The sound of her high heels stepping on the ground was dull and unhurried, as if she were taking a leisurely stroll.
Shi Hui wiped his face, which was wet with rain. The two women in front had already walked two circles around the ancient town.
Although the ancient town was not big, the winding paths they took made the distance much longer. If he didn’t work out often, he might have been exhausted to death.
But the two women seemed tireless. They looked like they were walking slowly, but whenever he tried to quicken his pace or run forward in a secluded alley, the distance between him and the two women remained unchanged.
He didn’t find it strange. He just assumed they had used points to buy something that would speed them up.
But not being able to catch up to them made him feel a little unlucky. After all, he had just been rebutted by these two, and his male pride was instantly piqued.
These women, every single one of them, looked down on him…
However, in the blink of an eye after he wiped his face, the two people in front of him instantly disappeared at a turn in the alley.
He cursed under his breath and fiercely punched the wall next to him.
For some reason, the wall suddenly shattered, and pieces fell to the ground.
His arm was cut by the sharp pieces. Bl00d instantly gushed out. The pain in his arm made him frown. He was about to check the situation of the wall.
At that moment, a cold light flashed in the rain in front of him. A cold, sharp blade was pressed against his neck, as if it could take his life at any moment.
The blade reflected the woman’s indifferent eyes. He only heard her speak, her voice devoid of emotion.
“Don’t move.”
“It’s me, it’s me.”
Shi Hui quickly said, raising his hands to show that he had no ill intentions.
“You were following us.”
Jiang Nan’s eyes narrowed slightly. A bloody color appeared in her light-colored eyes. It looked eerie on her pale face. She spoke not in a question but a statement, with a hint of sharp killing intent.
They had known all along that someone was behind them and that this person wanted to find an opportunity to retaliate.
Shi Hui quickly defended himself: “I was following you because I was afraid you would be in danger.”
But out of the corner of his eye, he saw that the woman holding the knife was thin and frail. Her pale hair made her look sickly and weak. Compared to him, she looked like an egg hitting a rock. He immediately tried to snatch the knife from her hand.
The woman seemed to have predicted his move. She took a step back to dodge him. Then, before the man could react, a red figure appeared and swept her leg out mercilessly, hitting the vital spot below his waist.
It was a vicious kick. The pain in his hand was transferred to the intense pain in his lower abdomen. He was in so much pain that his entire face was twisted and ferocious. He rolled on the ground and screamed, not caring if the pieces on the ground would pierce his flesh.
Jiang Nan watched the man rolling on the ground with a cold eye. After an umbrella was stuffed into her hand, she saw the red figure walk past her and step on the other person’s chest. The pointy heel was like an awl, digging deep into his flesh.
Luo Ning seemed to not see the pain of the person under her foot, and she didn’t seem to hear the pig-like screams. Her eyes were filled with a smile, but it was as terrifying as the King of Hell coming for a life. Her red lips parted, and her voice was clear and melodious, like a judgment.
“You criminal, are you trying to commit a crime against us innocent people?”
Jiang Nan walked up to Luo Ning. Luo Ning kicked the person on the ground again. After he rolled to the side, she returned under the umbrella. She sighed and said.
“It’s a shame that players can’t kill each other.”
Shi Hui’s face was pale. He opened his eyes in pain. There was hatred swirling in the depths of them, and the veins on his forehead bulged.
“Since you know that, why did you go for the kill as a teammate? Aren’t you afraid of the system’s judgment?”
“You didn’t die.” Jiang Nan said, mercilessly shattering his moral blackmail.
He didn’t die, so the system couldn’t judge them.
The smile on Luo Ning’s lips made it impossible for people to feel any warmth in it, only endless coldness.
“You can only use that kind of talk to trick new players. Once you enter the Stairway to Heaven, there are no teammates.”
On the tenth floor of the Stairway to Heaven, only one person can truly go up. For the desires in their hearts, all players are not teammates; they are only endless opponents.
“You two are still looking for materials to make Beauty Porcelain. I can help you.”
Shi Hui’s eyes instantly became bloodshot and red. He still felt unwilling and continued to try to negotiate.
“Who told you we’re going to make that stuff?” Luo Ning laughed, also mercilessly rejecting him.
Jiang Nan ignored the constant screams in her ear. She put her hand on the broken wall next to her. The sharp edge cut her fingertip. The crimson bl00d dripped onto the wall, and the stain was washed clean by the rain.
Her eyes drooped slightly. She looked at the wound on her fingertip and said calmly.
“The wall is made of porcelain.”
She remembered that the wall this morning was clearly made of bricks.
Her gaze swept over the other surrounding walls. As expected, all the walls had been porcelainized, along with the tiles on the roof and the pebbles scattered everywhere.
They were now in a world completely made of porcelain.
Luo Ning didn’t seem to care and was still in the mood to joke.
“I heard this kind of thing is very valuable. I just wonder how much it’s worth here.”
In the distance, a patch of orange light suddenly lit up, like a burning flame.
But right now, it was clearly raining.
At midnight, the night watchman struck the gong in his hand. The crisp sound echoed throughout the ancient town. But instead of shouting about a dry night, he was shouting in an old but strangely cheerful voice.
“The porcelain thief has been caught…”
In the dark ancient town, one lamp after another lit up. People walked out of their opened doors, their footsteps on the ground sounding like colliding porcelain, as if they could shatter at any moment. In this eerie night, it became even more bizarre and sinister.
They walked out of the alley and watched these people flocking toward the source of the firelight.
The rain was still falling, and the fire was still burning.
“Do you want to go take a look?” Luo Ning asked, giving the choice to the person beside her.
Jiang Nan looked at the wound on her hand that was gradually disappearing. When she glanced at the person beside her, she unconsciously hid her hand behind her back and put away her knife with a frown.
Just now, she seemed to have lost control of herself.
