Chapter 32: Beauty Porcelain (14)
Where Did They Hide?
Jiang Nan and Luo Ning left the house the moment they heard the scream. Unfortunately, “Mother Ci” was unable to follow them.
They saw a trail of bloody footprints leading in the direction they were going. Jiang Nan spoke up and stopped Luo Ning.
“Wait.”
Luo Ning looked over. Jiang Nan pointed at an object and bossily instructed Luo Ning.
“Carry that over.”
Her finger was pointing at an old wooden ladder in the corner. Looking at its height, it was just right for reaching the roof. Jiang Nan thought that since Luo Ning insisted on following her, it wouldn’t hurt to have her do some work.
Luo Ning followed Jiang Nan’s gaze. Her eyes rested on the ladder for a moment, then lingered on Jiang Nan.
“Okay.”
Jiang Nan was so stunned by her quick agreement that she froze. By the time she came to her senses, Luo Ning already had the ladder on her shoulder. She adjusted the weight and it seemed to pose no difficulty for her at all.
Luo Ning was still wearing her cheongsam. It was the perfect outfit for a classical beauty, but the object on her shoulder created a bizarre contrast without diminishing her elegant aura in the slightest.
Jiang Nan looked at Luo Ning and couldn’t help but turn her head and smile.
“Little Jiang Nan should smile more. Why weren’t you so happy before?” Luo Ning asked.
Hearing that, the smile on Jiang Nan’s face stiffened. She didn’t answer.
Since Luo Ning was the one carrying the heavy load, Jiang Nan was kind enough to walk beside her.
They had been eavesdropped on, so Jiang Nan took Luo Ning to do the same.
Jiang Nan had Luo Ning climb up first. After confirming that the ladder was safe to use, she followed her up to the roof. Luo Ning reached out to help Jiang Nan with the final step.
A tile on the roof was removed. They could see the people inside.
Yi Fei’s foot was injured, but he dragged his unbandaged foot over, thinking he couldn’t let Jiang Nan and Luo Ning get the upper hand.
But by the time he finally got there, he didn’t know that people were already sitting on the roof, watching his every move.
When Yi Fei entered, he first saw Shi Hui tied up by the door, then Li Feng lying on the ground half-dead.
His face was grim for a moment. He endured the pain in his foot and went to check on Li Feng. After confirming he was only unconscious, he scanned his surroundings. Besides the still-operating pottery wheel, there seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary, and he didn’t see Jiang Nan and Luo Ning.
“Hey, what happened?”
He shook Li Feng violently but couldn’t wake him up, so he didn’t get any answers.
Seeing this, he felt that his painful journey was a waste of time. This made him even more upset. He let go and let Li Feng fall back to the ground.
He frowned. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the unfinished clay piece on the pottery wheel.
Although it was only a half-finished product, it had a basic shape that showed what a stunning porcelain piece it would be when complete.
He was a little confused. Why did this half-finished product look so familiar?
The sharp pain in his foot returned, making him stop his hand that was reaching for the half-finished product.
“Damn it,” he cursed, but it only made the pain in his foot worse.
The muffled “hmm” sounds coming from Shi Hui temporarily caught his attention. He looked over and saw that Shi Hui’s eyes were wide, as if he had something to say.
He suddenly felt like he was in too much pain to think straight. Instead of trying to wake up an unconscious person, it was better to ask Shi Hui, who had witnessed everything.
With that thought, he looked up again. The sinister look in his eyes was replaced by a smile. The journey to get to Shi Hui was only a few steps, but each one was a torment, making it hard for him to keep his smile.
Yi Fei didn’t immediately untie Shi Hui. He just took the cloth out of his mouth and asked.
“What happened to him?”
There was no servile flattery on his face. The cold smile made even a tough guy like Shi Hui shiver.
Once the obstruction in his mouth was gone, Shi Hui immediately spoke with an agitated expression.
“That crazy woman found a ghost!”
“A ghost? What kind of ghost?”
Hearing that, Yi Fei suddenly remembered the hanged ghost he had seen on the first night, but he couldn’t be sure if the ghost Shi Hui was talking about was the same one.
Shi Hui’s wide eyes were filled with terror. He said.
“They are monsters.”
How could a normal person command a ghost!
Yi Fei’s head ached from Shi Hui’s loud voice. After thinking for a moment, the coldness in his eyes grew even more intense. He spoke temptingly.
“Do you want to live?”
Hearing his words, Shi Hui calmed down a bit. But looking at Yi Fei’s scrawny body, he felt like he was talking nonsense. Still, he held onto a slim hope.
“Do you have a way?”
Yi Fei smiled sinisterly and said.
“Of course I do. After all, I also hope those two die here.”
Shi Hui was silent for a while. He suddenly felt a chill from this person he had been hiding from for so long, but the other person was indeed his last hope. He said with a grim face.
“What do you need me to do?”
“It’s simple. You don’t know it yet, but now, as soon as night falls, you’ll become a porcelain person and be on the same side as the townspeople. All you have to do is go out at night and follow them, then find an opportunity to incite the townspeople to chase and kill them.”
Shi Hui’s face turned ashen after hearing everything.
“A porcelain person…”
The porcelain people under the altar on that rainy night flashed in his mind.
“You’re lying to me,” his teeth ground together in rage.
Yi Fei sneered. “You’ll know tonight.”
Shi Hui’s face was ashen, and his body trembled like a sieve.
His memory of the night stopped at the sight of a porcelain person being smashed to pieces. Even if this was the truth, he refused to admit that he had also become that half-human, half-ghost thing.
“You still have a chance,” Yi Fei continued to tempt him.
“Kill those two women, and we can each have a share of the ashes and make our own Beauty Porcelain.”
A malicious look flashed in his eyes as he waited for the person in front of him to agree.
The potter’s ashes. Since players are automatically categorized as potters once they enter the dungeon, whose ashes were used didn’t matter.
He glanced at the unconscious person out of the corner of his eye, wondering what he was thinking about.
On the roof, the two who had heard the entire plan put the tile back in place.
“Let’s see how they’re going to kill us,” Luo Ning said with a smile, not caring in the slightest that they were discussing her life and death.
Jiang Nan’s gaze went to the distant, bustling ancient town. It looked the same as when they first arrived, but she never imagined that the kind townspeople were all murderers.
Every dungeon, and the so-called main god, seemed to be nothing more than a lure to attract a large number of prey, creating “evil” for them and using that “evil” to sustain the entire dungeon’s operation.
Casting a long line to catch a big fish. Only, these players were the fish.
She seemed to suddenly understand the freedom Luo Ning had spoken of at the beginning. The other person wanted to leave this place, to escape this malicious “world.”
Luo Ning stretched, her expression lazy and her voice languid and enchanting.
“What are you thinking about, Little Jiang Nan?”
The elongated ending of her words was either intentional or not, but it was captivating and made a person’s heart tremble.
“What’s at the highest level of the Ascension Ladder?”
Luo Ning chuckled softly and said.
“Your obsessions and your wishes. It will fulfill everything you want. What’s more, Little Jiang Nan only wants to find a person.”
Hearing that, Jiang Nan fell into a long silence. She didn’t even push Luo Ning away when she put her arm around her shoulder and leaned in.
“Don’t be afraid. Whatever’s up there, I’ll watch it with you.”
Jiang Nan didn’t dare to take her promise seriously.
The people below started to move again. Jiang Nan looked down.
Because of his foot injury, Yi Fei finally untied Shi Hui. But Shi Hui had already been so terrified by his words that he was in a daze. At this moment, he would do whatever the other person told him to.
After tying the unconscious Li Feng with a rope, Shi Hui dragged him to the kiln where the fire was burning. The high temperature scorched his skin, turning all the surrounding moisture dry.
“What are you going to do?” Shi Hui asked in a low voice, but his voice was still trembling with fear.
Yi Fei kicked the unconscious person on the ground a few times and said disdainfully.
“He’s disqualified anyway. He might as well be of some value to me.”
Hearing that, Shi Hui’s body trembled. He looked at the person in front of him in shock.
“You were lying to him before?”
Shi Hui had heard Yi Fei comfort Li Feng earlier, so Li Feng actually didn’t have a second chance to present the Beauty Porcelain to Mother Ci.
Suddenly, Shi Hui felt like he had been doused with cold water. He was completely cold.
He never thought that a student like Yi Fei could be so ruthless.
Yi Fei, however, glanced at him and sneered mockingly.
“What? We’re all villains. What are you still afraid of?”
A thief, a stalker. How were they any nobler than his slandering and deception?
Shi Hui was silent, but he didn’t deny it. Gradually, a malicious look appeared in his eyes.
“Does your promise to help me leave the dungeon still stand?”
In this place where everyone was fending for themselves, his own self-interest came first. What’s more, he wanted those two women to die.
“It stands.” Yi Fei knew the other person had agreed to his previous words. The smile on his lips became more unbridled.
“Hurry up and go find those two. Don’t let them escape.”
Although he said that, he also knew that no one could leave this place during the day.
After they left, the unconscious man woke up. But he didn’t panic and scream about the rope on his body. Instead, his eyes were calm and malicious. He opened his tightly clenched hand. There was a piece of broken porcelain shard in it.
Jiang Nan looked at it. Her shoulder sank as something was added to it. When she looked, she only saw Luo Ning leaning against her.
She couldn’t see the other person’s expression, but she felt her breathing was steady, as if she had fallen asleep.
Jiang Nan subconsciously froze. For some reason, she couldn’t bear to wake her up.
Shi Hui entered Mother Ci’s room to look for them, but he was kicked out by a suddenly enraged Mother Ci. The old wooden door completely gave out at that moment, lying on the ground next to Shi Hui.
Yi Fei quickly came to his side and asked.
“What happened?”
He looked into the room, but he couldn’t see a single person. There was only shattered porcelain on the floor.
Shi Hui coughed up bl00d from the pain. At least he had a thick skin. He pushed the remains of the wooden door off his body and said coldly.
“I didn’t see anyone.”
Yi Fei immediately frowned. They had looked everywhere else, and there was no sign of Jiang Nan and Luo Ning.
“It’s impossible. Can they leave?”
He immediately dragged his injured foot to the courtyard gate and reached out to push it. But an invisible force was now several times stronger. The moment he touched it, he was pushed back several feet and fell to the ground.
Yi Fei’s small body was not as resilient as Shi Hui’s. He was in immediate pain, but he was more concerned about one thing.
“Where could they be hiding?”
Besides the inner room in Mother Ci’s place, there was nowhere else to hide. They naturally assumed Jiang Nan and Luo Ning were hiding there.
However, no matter how much they guessed, they never thought that the two people they were looking for were on the roof. Luo Ning had even brazenly taken a nap, and the conspicuous ladder had been kicked into the junk pile.
The setting sun was as red as bl00d, like a great fire that had swallowed the ancient town.
The afterglow soon disappeared behind the mountain, and night fell. The cicadas’ noise woke the quiet people.
Luo Ning stretched lazily. She glanced at the person squatting by the courtyard gate and scoffed. Then she got up.
“Let’s go.”
As soon as she finished speaking, before Jiang Nan could even react, she was picked up and jumped over the wall, just as she had before.
