She Was Sentenced to Life Imprisonment [Unlimited] - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: The Rose Manor (2)
It’s Fine, He Deserved It
Coralee’s words as a butler didn’t sound respectful toward a master, making it difficult for the players to figure out the woman’s identity.
“This is…” The gentle-looking man was the first to regain his composure and asked Coralee with some hesitation.
Jiang Nan’s eyes narrowed slightly as she observed the tall woman in the black dress. The more she looked, the more familiar she became.
Before Coralee could answer, the woman in the black dress had already turned around and put down the thing in her hand. The black veil on her hat partially covered her face, revealing mesmerizing purple eyes. A perpetual, fake, gentle smile on her lips made people overlook the coldness within.
The moment they saw her, everyone felt she was a stunning beauty, unattainable and out of their league. Even the women took a sharp breath.
Then, they heard her red lips part. Her voice was like an elegant cello, carrying a unique charm as it mingled with the gentle wind.
“I’m with you all.”
Jiang Nan was at the back of the crowd, but Luo Ning’s gaze stayed on her. They both had a mutual understanding not to acknowledge each other in front of everyone. Their brief exchange of glances only lasted a few seconds before they both looked away.
Yan Xin looked Luo Ning up and down. Her expression was arrogant, with a hint of disdain for Luo Ning’s leisurely state. She spoke.
“A player?”
Luo Ning smiled and nodded. Before she could say anything, the scumbag with the disfigured face lit another cigarette. The smoke he exhaled was unpleasant. He lifted his chin at Luo Ning and asked the question that was on everyone’s mind.
“What are you trying to prove? I’m asking you, how did you get here before us?”
The wind blew the smoke over. The choking smell made Jiang Nan frown. A subtle look flashed in her eyes as she glanced at the scumbag, subtly moving farther away. Just then, a fresh scent filled her nose, dispelling the choking smell. Jiang Nan discreetly looked at Luo Ning.
Luo Ning’s peripheral vision was on Jiang Nan the whole time, and she had naturally seen her frown. Something flashed deep in her eyes. She spoke, but instead of answering the scumbag’s question, her voice was not loud but full of an immense threat.
“You should know how precious these roses are to the master of this place. If the cigarette in your hand were to light just one…”
Before she could finish her hint, the scumbag impatiently interrupted her. But when he met Luo Ning’s eyes, he felt an inexplicable chill from her smiling eyes. His body trembled involuntarily. Afraid of losing face in front of everyone, he immediately raised his voice and said to Luo Ning without a hint of politeness.
“Don’t give me that crap! You can’t scare me! I’m only being nice to you because you’re pretty. Now answer my question.”
The coldness in Luo Ning’s eyes was mixed with a chilling murderous intent, but it flashed by so quickly that people thought they had imagined it. They then heard her smirk. Coralee then took the opportunity to answer the scumbag’s question for her.
“This young lady was the first to arrive at the manor, so I naturally brought her here first.”
Hearing that, the other players frowned, deep in thought. Even though Coralee had said it herself, they still couldn’t completely believe it.
All of them had arrived together. How could Luo Ning have gotten there so much earlier? This didn’t make sense. And to arrive at a place so early without fearing being isolated by other players was even stranger.
Luo Ning nodded at the female butler, then looked at the roses around her. Her face showed a hint of delight.
“This place is beautiful, but it’s also too big. I got lost by accident.”
Others thought Luo Ning was deliberately flattering them. There was a hint of disdain on their faces.
When Coralee heard this, her smile widened. She looked at the surrounding roses with a hint of tenderness.
“The master will be very happy to know you like it. But for your safety, I will have someone bring you a map so you won’t get lost again.”
Luo Ning seemed pleasantly surprised when she heard that. She smiled.
“That’s my honor. Thank you so much.”
Hearing that Luo Ning had gotten a map of the manor, the other players couldn’t sit still, especially the man with the gold chain and the scumbag.
“We need a map too.”
After all, the manor was covered in roses. Without a map, they would probably get lost, and there was no telling what was underneath the roses.
Coralee shook her head and said with an apologetic tone.
“I’m sorry, there’s only one.”
Hearing that, the players who were about to ask immediately looked at Luo Ning, who was the only one who could get the map. But the system’s words had also made it clear that they shouldn’t easily trust others, so even if they wanted the map, they didn’t dare to ask directly, hoping Luo Ning would understand what they meant.
But Luo Ning seemed to not understand their gazes. She smiled.
“Did you not hear me? There aren’t any more.”
Jiang Nan looked up at her, seeing that this person had instantly offended so many people. She immediately pretended not to know her again.
In the eyes of others, Luo Ning’s words were nothing but provocation. But because of the clothes she was wearing, they couldn’t be sure how high-level a player she was. Even though they were so angry their faces turned pale, they didn’t dare to curse at her anymore.
The scumbag exhaled white smoke again. He was even more annoyed with Luo Ning. He angrily threw the cigarette in his hand to the side and snorted. Just as he was about to go over, the cigarette butt suddenly lit a rose, and the burning fire instantly turned the rose to ashes.
Seeing this, Coralee’s face immediately darkened. She raised her hand, and the red bird flapped its wings and flew over. The wind it brought extinguished the other fires.
The smile on her lips gradually became cold, and a sinister look flashed in her eyes. She spoke coldly.
“I told you, you can’t touch the flowers here.”
After she finished, the bird landed on her shoulder. Only then did they see clearly that it was a vulture, its feathers a dark, bl00d-red.
The vulture’s black eyes were not only staring at the players but also at Coralee. Its gaze was as fierce as a predator looking at its prey.
The scumbag didn’t care about the female butler’s words. He spat and shouted.
“It’s just one lousy flower! I can give you a whole bundle of them!”
He was smug and showed no sign of remorse, having even forgotten that both the system and the butler had said the master of the manor loved the perfume made from this flower field the most.
The other players had already sensed Coralee’s murderous aura. They naturally stayed far away, and no one went to warn him. They just watched from a distance.
When the scumbag saw that everyone had backed away, the disdain in his eyes grew.
“No way, are you all scared…”
Before he could finish, his expression instantly became blank. Bl00d slowly gushed from his neck.
The next moment, his body seemed to lose control and fell to the ground. Even his twisted posture seemed to have been designed so that his rolling head landed a few inches away from his body, without crushing a single rose.
The gushing bl00d, with its disgusting metallic smell, stained the rose petals, making the already vibrant petals even more vivid.
The black of his dying eyes reflected the female butler’s cold face, which slowly became gentle after he fell to the ground. A hint of fake apology appeared, but the curve of her lips was still perfect, as if the corpse beside her had nothing to do with her.
The players were horrified. They turned their gazes from the corpse to the nearby Luo Ning, because Luo Ning had somehow predicted that the scumbag would burn a rose.
The look in their eyes gradually changed. There wasn’t much fear, but more of an excitement toward a powerful person, especially from the fierce-looking man.
“It’s nothing. Someone will clean it up. I apologize for the show,” Coralee said with a laugh.
The high-ponytail woman regained her composure. Her gaze quickly moved away from the corpse, and she immediately said in a fawning tone.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. He deserved it.”
The red vulture stood on the female butler’s shoulder, its beady eyes scanning each of them, making them immediately agree.
“Yeah, he deserved it.”
They hadn’t expected someone to die the moment they entered the dungeon, which left them stunned for a long time.
Coralee nodded in satisfaction.
“I’m glad you all understand.”
With that, Coralee raised her hand, grabbed the vulture, and threw it away.
When the vulture left, it turned its head with a hint of reluctance. But when it met Coralee’s eyes, it involuntarily showed fear and flew away.
Since the others had all retreated, Jiang Nan, who was originally at the back, was now at the very front. The scumbag’s bl00d had splashed onto her face.
Luo Ning walked over to her. Jiang Nan was already unhappy about having someone else’s bl00d on her face when she suddenly felt a shadow fall over her.
Jiang Nan looked up and met Luo Ning’s eyes. She had just opened her mouth to ask what she wanted to do.
Luo Ning offered her a handkerchief. She looked at the bloodstains on the pale face in front of her, finding them an eyesore, and smiled.
“Wipe it off.”
Jiang Nan looked at the handkerchief she was offering. She frowned for a moment, recognizing it as the one she had given Luo Ning before. But it was so clean, as if it had been meticulously washed, and it carried the other person’s fresh scent.
Seeing that Jiang Nan hadn’t taken it for a long time, Luo Ning wiped the bl00d off for her, cleaning the stains from her face.
The touch on her face made Jiang Nan come to her senses. She glared at Luo Ning, raised her hand to take the handkerchief herself, and said in a small voice.
“I can do it myself.”
“It’s done.”
When Jiang Nan raised her hand, Luo Ning had already finished wiping the bl00d off. She then put the handkerchief away, leaving Jiang Nan’s hand awkwardly in the air. Jiang Nan could only put her hand down and say in a low voice.
“Why are you here?”
She wasn’t asking why Luo Ning was in the manor, but why she was in the same dungeon as her again.
Luo Ning blinked at her. The curve of her lips was gentle as she answered.
“I just woke up and I was here.”
She spoke vaguely and casually, leaving Jiang Nan with no recourse.
Their voices were low, and no one else heard them. But because of their actions just now, the other players all assumed they knew each other.
The high-ponytail woman looked at them both for a moment, then came over and asked in a friendly tone.
“Do you two know each other?”
It wasn’t impossible for people who knew each other to be assigned to the same dungeon by the system. High-level players also had other ways to make it happen. But at the same time, other players would be wary of people who knew each other, especially those who seemed to be high-level players.
Jiang Nan unhurriedly pushed the approaching Luo Ning away and said without any hesitation.
“No.”
Her voice was cold and heartless, which made Luo Ning feel a little helpless, but she could only smile.
Others looked at the “gentle” look in Luo Ning’s eyes when she looked at Jiang Nan. They waited silently for Luo Ning’s answer.
Luo Ning looked at Jiang Nan thoughtfully, then covered her lips with her hand and chuckled.
“She’s right.”
Her indulgence was almost overflowing from her eyes. The others were speechless and didn’t believe for a second that the two didn’t know each other.
Thinking that they were having a lovers’ spat, the high-ponytail girl laughed to lighten the mood and took the opportunity to change the subject.
“Can we go in now?”
Coralee nodded, her smile polite.
“That was my oversight. I’ve delayed you for so long. The master must be getting impatient.”
As the players were led inside by the female butler, Jiang Nan heard the sound of something being dragged from behind her.
Jiang Nan looked over with a hint of confusion. She saw two people dressed as servants who had come from somewhere. They were struggling to drag the scumbag’s corpse, leaving a trail of bl00d.
Not far away, a few more servants were using shovels to dig. A small pit was quickly dug, and the corpse had already been dragged to the pit. The roses swaying in the wind beside it were especially vibrant, red as bl00d.
The red vulture stood next to the small pit, being shooed away by the servants. But after snatching the scumbag’s severed head, it flew a distance away and began to gnaw on the head that had rolled to the side. Its sharp beak was covered in bl00d.
Then, a figure blocked her view. A fresh scent dispelled the thick smell of bl00d from her nostrils, and a familiar voice came to her.
“We should go in now.”
Jiang Nan took back her gaze, said “Mhm,” and ignored Luo Ning. She lifted her dress and followed the others. Then, after thinking for a moment, she stopped and waited for Luo Ning to catch up.
Luo Ning looked at her back. Her slender body in that extravagant dress looked like a proud little princess.
Luo Ning caught up and walked beside Jiang Nan. She heard Jiang Nan speak in a voice only they could hear.
“Did you buy these clothes?”
Luo Ning met her questioning eyes. She didn’t deny it and came up with a perfectly legitimate reason.
“You deserve the best.”
Hearing that, Jiang Nan was stunned. She didn’t know how to feel.
She looked into the other person’s eyes, trying to see a hint of pretense, but there was nothing but a smile. In the end, she couldn’t ignore the violent pounding of her heart. She could only lift her dress and quickly walk away from Luo Ning.
But Luo Ning’s words lingered in her mind, refusing to leave.
“Don’t buy me things next time,” Jiang Nan said.
The sound of high heels on the staircase echoed, giving everyone a sense of invisible pressure.
“Coralee, have my perfumers arrived?”
The woman’s voice held a faint, enchanting charm. She had not yet appeared, but her voice had already arrived.
Coralee looked at the staircase with a gentle gaze and said respectfully.
“Yes, they have arrived.”
As her words fell, a deep red skirt appeared. Then, a beautiful woman stood on the stairs, looking down at them from a distance.
